That website says the story is not set in th broken empire?

It's not set in the same universe. ML says that above your post.

I too have read this Wheel of Osheim book. It's great. Garyus having a much bigger role really got me. Jalan grew up and Snorri continued to be the tragedy magnet, yet somehow still cheerful and determined to do the right thing.

Lawrence is getting better at figuring out when to gogogogo and when to calm down in terms of character actions and how to have them link up and mean something to each other. I still think the events of King of Thorns are the most emotionally affecting we've seen yet, but the Jalan and Snorri group mattered throughout and reading how they still matter in the third book was great.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

I finished Wheel over the weekend and loved it. I agree with Maccy that it was a great conclusion to the trilogy. I too am really itching for a series after Jorg's finale. Is there any magic left in the world. If so how does it work.

Spoiler

Good to hear!

The next three years are going to be all about this:

Unless they let me put out more than a book a year. I'm currently about a third of the way through the last book of the trilogy.

I might return to the Broken Empire or its wider world after that ... don't know yet. Maybe some spaceship sci-fi :Rodeo:

That looks really fun. Loved the descriptive scenes!
How many fucking people do I have to hammer in order to get that across.

I just finished Wheel and I loved it. I laughed many times which is rare for me when reading, and at the end I cried which is even rarer. I am looking forward to the new trilogy and any future books. I love your writing Mark Lawrence and I second the idea to have a (short story) about what happens after Jalan and Jorg save everyone.

The Liar's Key cover (UK version) has been short listed for the Gemmell Awards!

It's Jason Chan's work. He also did the US cover, which I actually like better.

You can vote for it or any of the other nominees here:

2 clicks, no registration required.

The Gemmells were set up in memory of a great author, so I like to support them.

Finally finished The Liar's Key (not because it took ages to read, but because I delayed starting it).
Considering how concise Mark Lawrence's previous books have been, I felt that the first half of the book was a bit spun out - then again, if it had been SE's name on the cover, I would probably have expected triple the page count just to fit in all the philosophical musings and the descriptions of Builder potsherds. From Osheim onwards, though.... Oh boy. Special mention to how the Garyus/ Silent Sister/ Alica segments were written. They were powerful, touching, personal and added to the entire story.
Now to order The Wheel of Osheim - I actually can't wait to get my fingers on it.

And, that was Wheel. Start to finish took me two days. I think I will need to re-read the Osheim/Hell bits very carefully, because, as beautifully circular as the very epilogue was, I feel I missed an explanation for how the Jalan / Lisa scene at the very end felt at odds with whatever (didn't) happen(ed) between them at the Corsair Isles.

I'm 1/4 into Liar's Key and while I don't know the character much yet, I'd like to think the name Garyus is just the name Gary retrofitted with ancient trappings.

I started Prince o Fools finally, and stayed up past my bedtime. I have to say, it's great so far. It seems slightly less grim, and I'm enjoying the personality of Jalan, and the pairing of him with Snorri.

ETA: I'm sorry, did I say slightly less grim? And the encounter in Crath City? I got too interested last night and neglected my wife on her birthday.

HiddenOne. You son of a bitch. You slimy, skulking, low-posting scumbag. You knew it would come to this. Roundabout, maybe. Tortuous, certainly. But here we are, you and me again. I started the train on you so many many hours ago, and now I'm going to finish it. Die HO. Die. This is for last time, and this is for this game too. This is for all the people who died to your backstabbing, treacherous, "I sure don't know what's going on around here" filthy lying, deceitful ways. You son of a bitch. Whatever happens, this is justice. For me, this is justice. Vote HiddenOne Finally, I am at peace.

It's a diminutive of Gholloth (go figure) but let's say Gholloth is a mutation of Gary, inspired by folklore concerning the great soccer player Gary Lineker ... or something...

Haha! Well, finished LK last night. Awesome ending. That last line made me LOL for real.

If I may offer flattery, it's that I'm quite impressed that you managed to create two protagonists in a row with major memory issues that ultimately account for big revelations, and in each case they were plausible/organic and the methods of recovery were interesting and believable. It's a tough trick to pull off once without the reader rolling their eyes, and you did it twice.

Flattery! Hooray :rtfm:

In my third trilogy there's no memory issue! :rtfm:

Did you enjoy the reddit post that called you out for self-promotion by your fans?

That's a lovely bit of drama in an otherwise peaceful pond! (I didn't read the other thread that was mentioned.)
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

It's a bit ridiculous.

We welcome it here, obviously, but some took it poorly there, lol.
