I think people are overreacting. It's not so much that it's a bad song, it sort of is, but it's more that this song isn't single material. This song is the kind of skippable filler material you'd find on an average pop CD with 2-3 single worthy songs.
The song has like three different parts to it. That lead up to the "Look what you made do chorus" is actually really catchy. The rest is low tempo and boring. I never understand this need singers have to sort of "talk" over the music. Either rap or sing. Talking over the music isn't interesting.
For me it's the cribbing of Peaches style (which does not fit with Taylor anyways), the Right Said Fred rearrangement (officially, he gets a credit on it after all) non-chorus which exists in a void of UN-melody, and the basic petulance of what seems to be called a "diss track" where you talk shit about someone you don't like using song...because I guess just producing good music to prove them wrong is not enough...now we all have to watch a schoolyard shouting match instead.
Fucking grow up Taylor. You're nearly 30.
But then it's not like Kanye or Kim are much better in that arena.
I dunno. Maybe it's just that I don't subscribe to this kind of nonsense. Just get on with some good music, and leave all this back and forth fight shit on the sidelines...
But then I'm not in the age group that largely seems to get off on this crap....
TL;DR: I'm too old for this shit.
