Yeah, I never understood people's problem with the basilisks. I think I've only been cursed once the entire time I played the game, and that was my first time up against a certain boss. I suppose if you think you're Rambo and just stand around and inhale the clouds you might get fucked over, but if you play things safe and just wait for them to hop out of their cloud they really aren't anything to worry about.

You can buy a Crest Seal/key to the door for 20k, which gives you a good place to farm, as you can go from the bonfire, through the door, kill the 4 guys in the forest for a bunch of souls, then repeat until you're bored.

The female merchant is behind the gate in the tunnel you first use to the Undead Burg.. but it has to be opened from the other side. To get to the other side.. have you crossed the bridge with the Red Dragon on it yet? At the opposite end to the dragon, where you emerge after the Taurus Demon, is a door, the key of which I'm guessing you have already as you killed the Boar.

There's a ladder down from there, into undertown. From there, you can go immediately up some stairs to open another gate, which leads back to a previous bonfire. Or, keep going down, follow the street, mind the assassins and dogs, until you reach a fog door.

Don't go through, instead go right, down steps, follow path, until you reach a locked door on the right, and more steps up through a tower on the left. If you follow them up, you find a door with the female merchant, and you can open the gate in the tunnel from the other side. You can then take on that fog door with the Capra Demon to get a key to the Depths, which is through the locked door. Good luck with that..

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Your defense will go up if you level intelligence, endurance, strength and vitality. Resistance is basically throwing away expensive points when you can just equip a bunch of clothes for specific situations (most times).

I didn't unlock the forest door (yet). What I did was find the neatly hidden bonfire next to that door and then go to Lower Undead Burg (the bridge where the dragon/Solaire are, there's a door that you can probably now open).

From there, it's kind of a free path as to which way you go, but explore a bunch and be extraordinarily wary/creeped out by the levels.

Man, I already love this game.

Yeah you pick up a key from the guy that is behind the Boar that you kill. It leads down a ways, I have just rang the bell of awakening. I could go a few ways now, in the walkthrough I was reading it says I should go down by the blacksmith and enter another boss battle. There is that door that you mentioned. I could also go down the elevator in the church. What would be best here?

The elevator in the church leads down to firelink shrine, creating a great shortcut.

Or if you're feeling brave.. roll off onto the platform on the way down, climb over a few walls, and crouch in the Crows nest..

Thanks for this. What does the female merchant offer?

As if something like that would happen.

No, you get a lift back to the Asylum, where there is a very useful Ring, and a little Demon to destroy you play with.

I love the way every weapon and equipped armor looks and behaves so differently on your character in this game. My Sorcerer looks totally different to my Warrior/Knight from before... I've got a Sorcerers robe/tunic thing, and black leather trousers from the assassin set on at the moment for speed. Couldn't be more different to the tank of Artorias Armor and +5 Black Iron I'm more used to. And I can actually see the difference when I'm human, as I'm not covered up. (I think this might be another reason why I prefer 3rd person to FPS).

Yep. I'm waiting to get work and everything done so I can play. And I've finished it twice before.

There are 15 options to pick from though aren't there. I want to give it a go with a lot of them.

The starting stats don't make a huge difference as you can level anything, but there's a ton of weapons and armor to find.

Its not just for the sake of collecting.. each weapon behaves differently, feels different, and can be enhanced for different effects. There are 4 Smiths, and several Embers to find and give them for even more forging options.

And that's not including the Bosses souls, which if given to the right Smith, can be used to make unique weapons, shields, bows etc.

The variety is immense.

Found that female merchant and also that trapped sorceror that now lets me buy good spells and gear. That plus the 20k souls i need for the forest door means i need alot of souls quickly. As for paths i now have the foggy one by the undead merchant, the forest door, the foggy one past the door that ive been through that has those sleeping statues that have this weird paralysis spell that rapes me, and the forest basin. Is that all of them for paths this side of fireshrine. Im gonna post my stats and gear for your amusement and help later when my laptop doesnt play up.

I didn't play last night, I watched the football then played zombies as my friend was online and wanted to kill some undead. Tonight I will search for the merchants, only after I have watched Masterchef. (I play badminton as well, oh dear)

I wish I had more time.

Sounds like where I'm up to now. Except I just went down the depths and killed the Gaping Dragon, which gave me enough souls to buy the crest and open the door.

@Defiance.. I just joined the Forest Covenant, to get the Dark Wood grain ring. How is it best to get it? Do I kill the guy while he's in the forest, or when he's in Blight town? And is it a one-off chance?

Blighttown is the best. The problem with the forest is that there are so many people around you so it's really easy to fuck it up. In Blighttown, it'll only be the ninja and Shiva. It's a lot easier to handle them down there, not to mention you can just lure one of the firebreathers over to the ninja then have him blast the ninja to death. You'll still be kicked out of the Covenant, but Shiva and the ninja won't attack you and it'll ensure that you get the ring.

All this discussion is making me want to do another play-through. It's been a few months since my last visit to Lordran, I'm reading to die.

It's easier to grab the ring in Blighttown, if I recall correctly, if you attack him in the forest, then all the forest NPC's rush you at once. That won't end well.

I think I'll try to make a character with the dragon covenant in mind, it's the only covenant/build I haven't experienced yet, I think.

Even though I am currently playing this game, what you are saying makes my head split in two. Maybe i'll understand after one full completion of the game. Do any of you play two characters one the one console? I am thinking of starting over and doing two games at once.

I initially started with a knight, but then made a pyromancer because I was terrified of the gargoyles and kept playing the pyro because it's so much more mobile. My knight is at level 14 or something while my pyro is now at 55 or 57.

I'll go back and get the knight going, but I want to finish the game first. Haven't played since the frustration with Sen's Fortress, although I might be able to get some time in tomorrow.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Is the gaping dragon the red one guarding the gate? Is that through the fog by the undead merchant? Also do I have all the paths or am I missing some? Im paranoid about missing them since I would never have found that forest door bonfire without you people telling me so im worried about missing bits.

How would I join the covenant and what advantages do you get? I joined tha one by firelink shrine but then got forsake-d it when I met that guy by the gargoyle tower.

gf is on boring old Skyrim and I need my Dark Souls fix. What is that paralysis spell the stone warrior people do to me aswell?

I also died when I found my self lol-ing at the terrible joke I made. Those trees that attack you from the ground I christened am-bush-es because im so cool.
