The game isn't really about selling stuff to get souls; it wants you to kill, kill, kill for that. If you have too many items you can always drop them.

I just started the game again as a Deprived. It's very satisfying beating my way through the Burg with a club, wearing a loincloth.

I've put most of my points into Int. and Str. to start, and bought the sorcerers catalyst and Soul Arrow to kick off with.

Can't quite believe how powerful that is so early on... as a Warrior those first guys with spears took careful timing - now I'm just shooting them, or whacking them over the head with a club. I even took out the first Black Knight already, by hitting him, climbing a ladder, and pasting him with magic from above.

I just need some clothes now.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Yeh soul arrow is a one shot kill in the burg for me though one false dodge and im dead. That black knight killed me the first time as i didnt know he was harder.

Also killed the first boss though i knew what to do. I climbed up the ladder next to the fog bit but didnt realise that fucker could jump had to sprint jump down off the platform. Killed it first time though only cos i knew what was coming

You've got a shield though? I've been flipping between the catalyst and the club for offence, and using the Dragoncrest shield which stops most stuff.

I did just get one-hit by Havel, but hey, it's Havel. And I wasn't wearing anything.

Yeah, Havel slammed the shit out of me the first time I encountered him on my Sorcerer. He's not too bad, though. Just stay fairly close until he begins to do his attack animation (it's pretty slow), back-peddle, cast your spell, rinse and repeat.

If you're having a little trouble with survival, consider dropping 2 or 3 points into Vitality for the time being. It'll help. I'm over halfway through NG+ now, and having 40+ points pumped into vitality has saved my ass a number of times, to the point where NG+ has been a joke so far.

I'm playing a pyromancer and basically becoming an all-rounder from the get go.

I've got Vit at 17, dexterity at 20 (for the Iaito), strength at 25, endurance at 22, intelligence at 19, faith at 12 (for heal), attunement at something that lets me have 3 slots (great heavy soul arrow, great fireball, heal) and a pyro glove at +10.

I just beat Quelaag/Ceaseless Discharge and am about to head to the newly opened fortress. Not bothering with walkthroughs at this point.

Those blighttown snipers were rough until I figured out how to attack them from different angles.

Probably should figure out how to farm humanity so I can give the sister 29 humanity (I gave her one and it didn't do anything, so I looked up wtf that was all about).

I joined that covenant 1st time round. You get the short-cut to the Bed of Chaos, but there is a titanite demon in the way.

This is just as addictive a second time through, I didn't want to stop playing last night.

Joined the Darkwraith Covenant this time around for some PvP. It's pretty fun. Pursuers is fucking deadly in PvP it seems like because of how good the tracking is.

If I get cursed, can I hit the ghosts in the ruins an/or block them?

I'm dying every two minutes in Sen's Fortress. Trying to do something as a change up.

If you're talking about the curse that the frog enemies give you (Basilisks, I believe they're called), do NOT get that kind of curse. The curse that you need is called Transient Curse. It's an item that you'll find off of a body in New Londo Ruins before you encounter any of the ghosts.

Unless you have the Covenant of Artorias ring, however, I wouldn't recommend New Londo at this point.

Sen's Fortress is a bitch your first time through. My advice is to take things slow and avoid locking on when you're on the beams. Also, once you get to the roof, be sure to be extra vigilant - there's an easy-to-miss bonfire in the vicinity.

EDIT: For clarification's sake, you can go about doing New Londo after you're cursed, but this is extremely inefficient as you'll be missing 1/2 your health.

Was tempted to level up my health and just make it so that half my health is still a pretty decent health bar.

But fine, I'll deal with Sen's Fortress. Damnit, this game is hard.

I played another hour or so.. chose to ignore Havel for now, and went to open up the route back to Firelink, got the large soul arrow spell, and picked up the Drake sword, which I can't use yet but couldn't ignore.

@Amp.. yeah, don't get cursed on purpose, if you happen to get hit again it stacks, halving you health again. It's worth going into New Londo to pick up the fire keeper soul right at the start, then leaving the rest til later.

It's a bit tricky a second time round as I know where I want to go, but forgot how many routes are blocked at this stage. And I keep going to use rings I haven't found again yet.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

I wasted those ghost killing items early on before i realised how valuable they were.

Killed that stell bull and that big knight in the church. Gonna get on it this week and have a good look round.

Did you find the lift? Just by that big guy in the church is a shortcut back to Firelink shrine. There's also another bonfire and Smith across the bridge opposite if you didn't find it yet.

transient curse can be bought from the female undead merchant, as well as homeward bones, poison arrows, etc. - very useful merchant, located through the tunnel where you first enter the undead burg, but you have to enter it from the other side - iirc you can access her after beating the capra demon, which is not so hard if you run up the stairs immediately and be tactical from there - or maybe you have to go through the depths first? in any case, that's not so bad either and the gaping dragon is completely optional - if you have the master key (and you should), it's much easier to get to Blighttown through the valley of drakes.

You can get to the aqueduct merchant before even beating the Capra Demon (the fog gate at the end of the green-filled hallway). Just turn right immediately before the fog gate and explore the lower level of that - avoiding the Depths (and Blighttown) and climbing back up the stairways with the idiot archer on a platform.

The Capra Demon is hard as hell at first, until you get lucky enough to survive the initial rush. Then it's much more manageable.

Why in the nine hecks would I let the Gaping Dragon or any major enemy go unkilled?

Yeah, I got into the Depths a lot quicker on newgame+, by going down that waterwheel thing.

I had to go back for the Gaping Dragon though, its optional but a good fight.

Where does the Gaping Dragon clamber up from? The bottom swamp level or is that too close to Queelag? Does it come from even lower than that?

It's in its own area, just after the Depths.. or the sewer part of the Undead Burg. It clambers out of a pool, but it's nowhere as deep as Quelaag, or that surreal area in the tree that decends even further.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

What I mean is that the chasm it clambers up from - how deep down does it go? Where was the Gaping Dragon before we fight it?

I dunno about a tree, but I bet there's lower levels than Quelaag's - actually I know that there are because I fought Ceaseless Discharge and there's levels even lower than that because I saw houses down next to the lava in a place I couldn't get to right away.
