Don't think they jumped in, they peed in the hole though :)

But im pretty sure the two demons are the ones that fid and gesler run into in RG.

Erm, no they just pissed in it. They wanted to see if it would evaporate before hitting the ground. We see the Demon Princes again in RG attacking Gesler's andFid's squads( who had interrupted their farming) and presumably getting obliterated by Fid's drum.

You are both right.

The demons aren't obliterated by the drum though.

Well, after the squads manage to escape, the demons decide to pursue them but hear other people approaching from another direction. Scene later there's a big detonation, Cuttle goes in Fiddler-worshipping-mode, and Bottle muses on how it would have been better for the demons if they had followed them.

We haven't really talked about it so far, but the Udinaas/Kilava/Ulshun/Onrack scene has me very curious to see what goes on in the Refugium and with Rud Elalle. Supposedly Rud Elalle left with Silchas on a quest to save the Refugium and everyone inside, but now they are going to leave it and go out into the world? Works fine with what Udinaas said in DoD about how the Refugium gives the T'lan Imass within their mortality, even if they leave, and they'll become T'lan again if it dies, but then if they need the Refugium leaving it doesn't really serve much purpose for defending it's sake!

Also, anyone else think the allies Kilava will summon might be Onos and his band of merry T'lan?

I read it as the mortal Imass aren't attempting to defend the Gate by leaving it, as Kilava believes they aren't needed for it (since she doesn't intend to fall defending it, I'm assuming she means to be successful), and so rather than be probable collateral damage, she's sending them away to spare them the destruction, while Rud Elalle goes to preserve the Refugium itself - as Udinaas says, it's dying anyway.

Kilava's allies? Onos was my first thought, and I think the most likely. I haven't finished my re-read yet though, so that might change. Perhaps going to help Kilava is the 'depth' that Olar Ethil can't fathom i.e. familial love? I'll be interested to see what ST is up to in the Refugium, as he still has access to that gate into SD.

By the way, if all those dead dragons turn out to be not dead and just hibernating...biggest misdirect ever.

Highly umprobable seeing how Serenity was kicked in some deep hole by the two demon Princes at the end of MT. Of course, maybe that wasn't enough to stop a FA.

Not just kicked in a hole, they jumped in after him. I've long wondered what happened to those three.

The two demons take up farming, the FA we never see again.

From DoD...

Not once had the Shriven refused their submissiom; not once had a single pathetic human straightened in challenge.

Inquisitor Sever musing on the Snake...

So the Shriven are the FA's human subjects... their slaves!

Any idea who the Watered are? They seem intermediate between the Shriven and the FA, but are they humans, FAs or, what I suspect, hybrids with more FA than human but still not among the Pure?

Oh man. These surely were 10 pages of awesome. So many little tidbits, so much foreshadowing towards the rest of the book - just pure genius. Almost every damn sentence from this excerpt is getting its share of interpretations and guessing. I just simply can't believe how amazing this is. And it's just the first 10 pages.

The body must be Heboric. Now I am wondering the most about where Karsa is and how him and Nimander are going to contribute to the final convergence. Also, Edgewalker proves to be in the same league as most badass characters. Like it!

Hmmm, I didn't read it as Icarias, but then my recollection of how it's described in DoD is a little hazy. Is there any evidence from the Snake's visit to suggest there's a big, walled keep like that one Paran is standing under? Also if Paran is under siege there (and it appears that he has been for at least some while, even if it hasn't been too long) how would this conflict with the timeline with the Snake arriving in Icarias and finding it abandoned?

More likely, I think Paran is in Kolanse proper, possibly its capital, and possibly the keep stands just over the heart of the Crippled God itself. There's some evidence for this in the K'rul/Mael exchange - K'rul says the warrens around Kaminsod's heart are a mess, and Shadowthrone indicates that Paran has done some pretty nasty stuff with the warrens where he is. (Although, the source of the mess K'rul is referring to could be any number of other things at Kaminsod's heart - FAs, the heart itself causing disturbances, etc.)

Apologies. I read it way too hastily last time :p. Its actually the complete opposite of what I said. Definitely not Icarias.

As for the 'Him', I wonder if it is Cotillion they are talking about. After all he is obviously going to do something drastic and the excerpt suggests he will be taking a lot on his shoulders. Maybe Apsalar is his other?

Oh and the body might just be Blistig? There goes my wild guess :p

I think Karsa will turn up and take out Calm.

My reasons (which are of course not in anyway air-tight) are:

Karsa released Calm

Karsa in HoC in his glade thinks of Baidoth (i think is the name of the guy who thought he was a dog) and how a Forkul Assail called Calm casually ended him.

In the excerpt Karsa is talking about him to "The Witch" so he is obviously still playing on his mind after all this time.

It appears the Andi will be on the move (although branching off to other worlds seems the main plan) so this might provide a facility for Karsa to move to the action, or indeed the action might come to him.

Calm and the Forkul Assail seem to have slaves (shriven as mentioned in DoD and watered added on from the excerpt, but they might not be slaves) Karsa isn't too keen on that sort of set up :p

I could of course be very wrong, but i just read HoC recently and Karsa ruminating on his friend and calm sort of jumped out after reading the excerpt.

oh on slightly different note: we know Icarium is "asleep" and the FA are concerned he doesn't wake up, but who would you rather wake up?

Icarium or Stormy?

i'd pick Stormy but only cause the T'lan Imass took his sword back, if he still had it i'd be taking my chances with Icarium.

Anyone else think of Trull as the body Mael is carrying? I know its a long shot, but his flesh his dead, he had a strong soul and was the warrior(?) of shadow. We also know he was racked with guilt over everything that happened with his family. I bring it up because because Udinaas brings Fear Sengar back up.

Just realized after a reread that its someone who can get close to the adjunct, ruling out trull. I would guess Quickben, but he doesn't seem the guilt ridden type.

Quick Ben is alive. I can bet on that.

Now, it just struck me. Why the heck does Paran ask Shadowthrone for the locaton of Cotillion? He shouldn't need to do it. He is the Master of the Deck, can't he just call Cots and ask? When it comes to dealing with gods and ascendants he certainly knows how to handle this stuff. And we know, that Cotillion is wandering around realm of Shadow, which does not seem as really hard to reach for someone like Ganoes.

I'm also inclined to believe the body is Heboric, considering Mael's aspect and the fact that he sunk to the bottom of the sea, and his spirit seems far from dead even though his body is. The passage also states that the body feels weightless, and Heboric was a short and thin man. The only problem with it is that Heboric doesn't really know Tavore, apart from what Felisin told her. The only other person I could consider to know Tavore to an extent at least would be Fist Gamet, but somehow I don't see him being the corpse.

Doesn't it say that he can get at her heart and not that the dead dude KNOWS her? It would definately cut her to the quick if Heboric told her bout Felisin. So yeah, its Heboric, he's the one person who could do the most damage to Tavore at this point.

[quote name='ShadowRaven' timestamp='1297058066' post='829606']Edit: Thank you poster below, my memory slips me.

Regarding Heboric - I thought him too 'invested in', both by Erikson as an author and by gods/jade statues etc, to just be killed off as arbitrarily as he was in BH - I anticipated he'd somehow be back as his full potential
hasn't yet been shown yet. He's a bit of a Chekhov's gun in other words - he's been shown, so I anticipate he'll be 'fired' at some point.

Gamet didn't die in the Wastelands. He died in Seven Cities in HoC and his body was in one piece. You're thinking of Keneb.

BTW, one thing I just picked up while rereading the excerpt (again) is K'rul saying, "I shall not remain blind. Two children. Twins. Mael, it seems we shall defy the Adjunct Tavore Paran's wish to be for ever unknown to us." It only just occurred to me that he is talking about Storii and Stavi, two twins and children of K'rul's beloved Kruppe. He's clearly manoeuvring them into a position to witness the BH's end.
