In the Mael/K'rul conversation we have:

'Me with mine, you with yours, his with his, and yet still we fail to convince the world of its inherent absurdity.'
K'rul shrugged. 'Him with his. Yes. Odd that of all the gods, he alone discovered this mad, and maddening, secret. The dawn to come . . . shall we leave it to him?'

Any thought on who the 'Him' is?

schemes, K'rul has his shemes, Mael has his and then the master of all schemes Kellanved/Ammannas

After this comment I think, that it is possible, that the body is Felisin. I believe that she would get to Tavores heart. And she died in Raraku, which is now a sea.

Good thought about Raraku being a sea now, but Mael refers to the body as male.

I don't think Paran has caught up with the Snake, Tattersail. SE wanted to show people how he goes through writing a scene, on that 'becoming human' blog or whatever its called, and he was writing about the Snake after leaving Icarias, still nearly dead and wandering blindly. Don't have a link. Unless its some kind of flash-back, or the Paran-on-the-wall bit is non-chronological, they haven't joined at that stage. At least it doesn't seem that way to me. What a fantastic opening few pages, though. So much up think about! Love it.

Anybody else wondered about who the twins are that K'rul and Mael talk about.

I would sincerely like it to be Oponn again as that would take the story almost full circle as they instigated so much in GotM, particularly concerning Paran.

What do we know.

Corabb is still kicking about (hopefully), Sechul is their father and he's up to his neck in it, ST still has Chance and could manipulate them into doing something for him. Ermm.....

It's flimsy I know but unless they got greased by Obo in BH ?, i'd love to see them again as i've always thought they were SE's best "underused" characters, if you know what I mean.

It's just occured to me that "the Lady" from Stonewielder might have been one of the twins, she was described as mouldy, pasty slightly FA looking wasn't she ?

Again it's flimsy, but worth some thought by more studious minds than my own....
Now all the friends that you knew in school they used to be so cool, now they just bore you.
Just look at em' now, already pullin' the plow. So quick to take to grain, like some old mule.

Here's the twins quote in full from the excerpt (K'rul speaking):

Quote

"I shall not remain blind. Two children. Twins. Mael, it seems we shall defy the Adjunct Tavore Paran's wish to be for ever unknown to us ..."

It seems clear to me that he is referring to Stavi and Storii, the twins who just happen to be the children of K'rul's beloved Kruppe. They are in the general vicinity of the BH, so I am guessing that the two parties will link up at some point in the future and K'rul will then have eyes in the BH camp (along with most other gods, it seems).
Avoid being seen as racist by saying, "I'm not a racist, but ..." prior to making a racist comment.

I'd forgotten Kruppe even had kids, so with that in mind your theory carries far more water than my leaky old bucket of an idea and is probably correct.

That is not to say that my theory isn't fantastic though and with reflection, I think you will find more preferable :p

From the Tor re-read, DG Chapter 16:

SCENE 7

Felisin tells Leoman she will not dance to Sha’ik’s music. Toblakai returns having killed a giant white bear. Leoman pressures Felisin to perform the ritual. Felisin intones: The Toblakai “is pure faith yet shall one day lose it all,” Heboric will rediscover faith, Leoman is a “master deceiver” but searches always for hope despite his cynicism, and Felisin is as a crucible newly emptied. She tells Leoman to open the Book and he sees nothing in it but when Toblakai looks he weeps. Heboric refuses to look or touch it. Toblakai wants to kill him and when Felisin says “do it” (knowing he won’t be able to), Heboric’s hands flare visible and catch Toblakai’s wrists and send the sword flying, then Heboric throws Toblakai as well. Felisin tells Heboric he was never forsaken, he “was being prepared.”

Something that just occurred to me, the Paran bits from the excerpt are a little reminiscent - to me at least - of the opening of Gardens. There a young Paran is standing above the fires and the fray with Whiskeyjack (and briefly, Fiddler.) I've read comments from SE where he says that the imagery was deliberate - something about the three of them being about to descend into the chaos, but for the moment, they're above it.

In the opening of tCG, Paran is once more standing over everything - the battlefield before him, his troops below him, the burning throne in the courtyard behind him (maybe it's more significant thematically than as a plot device - Laseen's dead, order has dissolved, etc) - and presumably about to descend into it at some point in what's to come. Only now he's alone.

Or

Paran is facing one thing

Fiddler is on his way to face another

Whiskeyjack/Iskar Jarak is going to face another??

It ends how it starts in a way?
