So late to the party, but the enthusiasm on here for mass effect 3 sent me away and I have now played through all 3 games over the past few months, and very glad I did. Highly enjoyable games, I'm not generally a huge fan of FPS, but I thought the storytelling in this was bioware at close to their best. I quite enjoyed the ending, though this may have been tempered by everyone and there dog telling me it was terrible, seemed to fit well with the rest of the game

Just finished ME3. A tough call to be honest. I think for sheer cinematic impact the ending really pulled through. It was actually fantastic and unique. Better than the sleep with morrigan conundrum in DA 1 which i just found ridiculous. Some deep decisions had to be made. I think they left a nice catch at the end with the bay doors. I agree bioware at their best storywise.

That aside it really didnt give the closure i'd have liked. It burned shepherd into my brain as gaming royalty but as a result it kinda made the rest of the game seem almost trivial. Some decisions just seem a bit silly and pointless in hind sight.

Hopefully they've been far-sighted enough to have the next DLC planned and in development, and have done the voice recording for that too while the voice actors where in for the ending thing. It would actually make sense to try and release some paid single player DLC with it really, since many are going to be playing through again anyway.

deffo not buying any more DLC from BW, end of story.

meh. BW has ventured from my "BUY EVERYTHING IN PREORDER" folder into my "meh, wait for midweek madness 50% off or something" folder, after making two games straight that disappointed my expectations and featured bullshit like shop-specific item packs and Day 1 DLC. I guess the first folder is down to just blizzard (an Looking Glass, don't care it doesn't exist anymore!)

Extended Cut DLC coming June 26th. I really didn't like the ending, but I'll definitely be playing this. Just going to have to find a save editor to up my readiness level, as there's no way in hell I'm going to play several hours of multiplayer to get it up (I already did that the first time I played the game). Seriously, multiplayer factoring in to the single player endings is dumb as hell, especially for people playing on a console. When they go back to replay ME3 in several years and can barely find anyone to play with online, they're going to be screwed when it comes to getting the best ending.

BioWare has definitely fallen off of my "must purchase" list. I thought both the Dragon Age games were rather shit, and the whole ME3 ending was pretty disheartening (overall, I loved the game though, conclusion to the Genophage and the Quarian-Geth stuff was epic). In fact, I don't think there's a single company that is still on my "must buy" list. Blizzard used to be there, but their games are far too lacking in substance now (really nothing to do in the Cataclysm expansion, and Diablo 3 was fun for about a week...not much replay value and the lack of fun items killed it for me).

But yeah, back on topic. Apparently the extended cut is about 1.9gb - I'm wondering how much length that will translate to for our extended endings. I listened to a video on YouTube earlier where Casey Hudson said that your choices throughout the series will be more adequately reflected in the extended cut. If this is true, then it definitely gives me a little more hope about it. I'll never really be a fan of Star Child and his shenanigans, but if BioWare can deliver some nice closure that reflects previous choices, as well as explain why Joker bugged out on me and somehow managed to save Liara and Garrus in the process (who were most likely fried by Harbinger's beam), I'll walk away satisfied.

Almost 2gb big, huh? Might be something there then (Shadow Broker dlc was 1.5gb if I recall). So it's out in 3 days? That's good - I'l get to see what it has once I finish my master's paper thingy (I despise writing research documents).

@Defiance I'm saddened that you didn't like DA:O, it was a good game. DA2 had lots of problems (understatement) but it was ok. Still, to each his own.

DA2 had no problems. Not being what people expected and recycling environments are not problems. DA2 is an awesome game.

I can forgive DA2 it's map reuse (ME 1 did it with all it's side quests on planet/base looks the same) but the story feels a rough. Oddly enough DA2's story works well if you don't look at it as one big thing but an anthology centered on Hawk - then it works, though even then Meredith and Orsino should have been introduced earlier into the story so we could get a better handle of them. As for gameplay, the only thing that bugged me was the enemy wave system - it felt bad and game-ish enough to marr immersion for me. I generally overlook gameplay problems others have cited since they don't bother me (I hardly notice to tell the truth).

As for the character - I was fine with them. If anyone didn't like them ... to each his own.

And more time in ME3 is never a bad thing - more Garrus is always welcome.

So I haven't gotten the dlc yet (Europe got delayed yet again) but youtube is just as handy as always. The extended ending cutscenes were exactly what me and my friends were thinking they'd be (and what I wanted at any rate). So I finally got closure and I'm happy with it.

Of course the Bioware forums are awash with blood again. Sigh.

The thing is ME is a victim of it's own success. People love it so much that I feel that ANY ending would be treated with shouts off betrayal and whatnot (kinda like how some people were bummed with the ending of CG - except people here are less verbally abusive then people on bioware forums)

Overall, it's a definite improvement. I went in expecting nothing, and came away a little surprised. Yeah, it doesn't fix many of the thematic elements that I had a problem with, but whatever. I knew that wasn't going to be changed, so I have no clue why people are in an uproar once more. BioWare already said they weren't going to change things thematically; at this point, people just need to move on. Every game has its flaws, and (in my opinion, of course) Mass Effect 3 was unfortunate enough to have all those problems occur at the end. I still love the series, and overall I felt 3 was a very great game with some immensely satisfying moments.
