I don't really have a problem explaining that. When something explodes, the force of the explosion is dependent on the potential energy stored within. If a relay has just ejaculated the vast majority of its power to fire the kill/control/merge signal to the next relay, you get a smaller boom. The scene works that way too, if you watch it - big spooge of signal being fired, then pissy little explosions all over the relay.

In short, I agree with pretty much all of the above posts about the nature of the mass relay's exploding, with an addendum or two.

It A) makes sense from a symbolism point of view. Shepard is creating a new galactic order, and he/she begins by first clearing away the old order. B ) You guys already nailed the wave description. Nothing else to add here other than C) the nature of the exploding wave of energy released by the citadel and ME relays. The wave could conceivably destroy everything, including the systems in which the ME relays were placed in. This is basically what happened in the ME2 DLC, the Arrival. However, it would depend on the type of energy being released, something that Bioware was very clear about in the ending. The energy being released by the Citadel and the ME relays is being specifically channeled so as to NOT cause complete devastation among the galaxy. Sure, everything technological might be gone, but biological organisms and non technological substances (stone, soil, water, etc...) should not be negatively affected by the wave. The exact scientific reasons as for why this is true are completely unknown, but Bioware's logic is sound.

As for myself, I really enjoyed the ending other than the crashing of the Normandy on a "Garden of Eden" like planet. It felt right that Shepard went out like that and that everything went down the way it did.

There's nothing to say that the lanet the Normandy crash landed on isn't already well established. If you crashed landed in the Sandy Desert you might assume you were on a desert planet but it would be incorrect. Who knows, maybe there is an Asari city 'just behind that hill there'

You are correct. There is absolutely nothing which could tell us in an absolute sense whether or not the Normandy crashed on an uninhabited planet. Curses! However, it is far more logical to assume that they did land on an uninhabited planet because A) It would fit in with the general theme that Bioware established with the game's various endings and B ) because the likelihood of there being more uninhabited planets than inhabited planets in the ME galaxy is rather high. Otherwise we would have been dealing with galactic overpopulation as an issue rather than Earth being a rapidly expansionist power (Now there's a bag of monkeys that I'm glad Bioware didn't touch). And your desert simile has further logical issues... but my head is now hurting. So I will end my logic rant here

Out of sheer curiosity, if the synthesis ending was picked and Joker became part synthetic does that now mean that A) He can get his groove going with Eedee without potentially dying and B ) they can have a kid? I have my doubts about the last one unless they became the same synthetic bio breed...

I don't think so. My take on synthesis is that a universal genetic template is used to change all life forms to the same kind of make up (i'm very tired, I probably make no sense right now). So turians and quarians would be able to eat the same foods as humans etc. Kinda like humans and animals - we have the same kind of blood but that doesn't mean we can reproduce with each other. Though New Zealanders do give it their best try
