I've seen this reaction a few times now and it's like... what Superman stories have people been looking at that him getting into enormous fights and generally being a badass is new to them? He does this shit all the time in the comics and, I'm pretty sure, in the cartoons as well.

How about the last movie? Or Superman 3?

I'd find it weird that those two things were the only exposure to Superman for... well, anyone in the world really, but that many people?

There was also the Lois & Clark tv show.

More people saw the movies or Teri Hatcher and Dean Cain tv show than read the comics or saw the cartoons.

That show wasn't really very good. I mean, I watched it with glee back then, but thinking about it now, it really was rather horrible and quite stupid.

STAS and Justice League however, were awesome!

To be honest, I didn't think Superman Returns was as bad as people say it was. Sure, the kid and Luthor with his beach-front property storylines were stupid as fuck, but in the sense of Superman saving Lois Lane and the world (which is often what superman is about) it was rather decent.

That being said, Superman 1+2 was better!
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

Not bad I guess. I really haven't paid much attention to this upcoming film since the mini trailer was released, so it was a surprise, a pleasant surprise, having Russell Crowe as Jor-El and Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent.

The cartoons were prety good, but had a relatively limited exposure.
The movies draw a bigger crowd, but with proportionately bigger backlash if they fail.

Put another way, the movie-going masses expect more from a movie than from a cartoon.

A few years old and I apologise if you have already seen it, but Kevin Smith talks about the Superman movie we almost had:

Acknowledging that trailers can be misleading, this one does make Man of Steel look like it's going to be a fucking BADASS movie!

Just saw this and fucking loved it. The critics are bitching because of the lack of humor and the "cold heart" of it (as some critics said). And, yes, it's CGI intensive but there's no skirting that with this script. The action was...well...super; fast as hell and what you'd expect of superman. Not gonna give a big review (I'm lazy) but definitely watch this, it's awesome.

Which is nonsense. There's not much laugh out loud humour but there was plenty of little stuff I grinned at, and the heart of Superman- all the hope and optimism- is there in spades. Plus it doesn't turn away from the joy of his powers either.

I swear most of the people complaining were expecting it to be just like the Reeve and Reeves versions. Naffs me off when people who don't read comics complain about how a comic character 'should be'.

Anyway, yeah, it was dead good. Not flawless, not quite as good as TDKR, but a solid, solid first franchise entry with plenty of awesome to go around.

Oh my gods. That was fucking PHENOMENAL.

Like WAY above my already high expectations.

It was everything I wanted from a Superman flick.

Perfect action, a gorgeous score, spot-on NAILED acting performances all around.

I mean honestly, I don't think ANYTHING is going to be able to come within a country mile of the love this movie is going to get this summer. This is going to be a juggernaut, no question.

And yeah, the hope, and bright nature of Superman was front and center for the whole thing.

Two things I flat out loved:

Spoiler

Oh, and two small easter eggs.

1. There is a tanker truck with LEXCORP written on the side.
2. There is a satellite with the WAYNE INDUSTRIES logo from Nolan's Dark Knight flicks on the side of a satellite that gets destroyed.

Right? PG and I are usually like polar opposites when it comes to like and dislike.

It's why we get along. :p

and yeah, go see it.

They should put a 'QuickTidal and polishgenius stamp of approval' thing on the DVD/Blu-Ray.

Someone go and hate it so I can argue with them. :p

An interesting interview with David S Goyer here.

I saw it, it was awesome!

I've read a few reviews of it and I get the feeling that some of those people weren't really watching the movie. It seems to me like they wrote it off before they saw on the sole grounds that it was Superman and a hollywood movie.

But I thought it was AWESOME!
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

I also saw it and agree, it was very good.

Someone needs to make a list of films/books that both QT and PG agree are good, I'm pretty sure it will be short but I bet all top quality.

Saw it. It was damn near perfect.

My only gripe is...how the hell are they gonna top that in the sequel?
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.
