What was up with Nakomi? The Aiel that Aviendha met on her way into Rhuidean?

Here is my theory on it:

Most of the new character names came from a charity contest to get your name in the book. :)

Ah, OK. I thought it was interesting that a devoted rasfwrjian made it in, and thought maybe Sanderson knew something about the online fan base, going waaay back. Jordan did.

It was also neat that the last name had that same mis-spelling.

Re: Nakomi -- I cannot believe that she is Verin. On first reading, I was much more inclined to the idea that she was a Forsaken in disguise, due to the similarities between Aviendha's sudden change of heart (feeling foolish, switching from Nakomi being a threat to clearly not being a threat) and similar encounters with Moghedien and her use of Compulsion.
It is perfectly monstrous the way people go about nowadays saying things against one, behind one's back, that are absolutely and entirely true.

interesting that you should think that is a reason to believe it isn't Verin.

Because whenever we've seen Compulsion used at that level of subtlety, it's been a Forsaken using it (and often actually Moghedien herself). Verin has demonstrated that she can use a smattering of Compulsion-like weaves, but nothing like the Compulsion that Moggy used in previous books. And I don't think she could affect Aviendha so quickly -- she needed lots of time working on the captured sisters before striking with her weaves in (ACOS? POD?)

Question......

Why The Towers of Midnight?
I see that there's an explanation as to what it is, but why the book's title?
Is it to do with Aviendha's encounter in Rhuidean? Or maybe foreshadowing as to the what one plotline will be for some of the characters?
Why should I infect them with my rage?

At the end of the book I think the Midnight Towers are ref'd in that prophecy of the shadow. Something to do with the prophecy about the death of the Broken Wolf...but I'm not sure what they are exactly. Could be a Tel'aran'rhiod (sp?) thing.
So, you're the historian who survived the Chain of Dogs.
Actually, I didn't.

It seems you stand alone.
It was ever thus.

They're a place in Seanchan, according to the glossary WHICH YOU ARE NOT TO READ IF YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED THE BOOK UNLESS YOU LIKE GETTING PUNCHED IN THE DICK WITH SPOILERS
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Seconded. And while i could be wrong, that was totally a Sanderson move and not something RJ would have ever included.

You know, this book was just overall much, much better than I think Jordan could've done. Same with the previous, but this was an even bigger step up.

It's both literal and metaphorical. In the wind scene of chapter one, you visit the Towers of Midnight in Seanchan. In chapter three, Egwene has a dream which makes it clear that the Forsaken are also a parallel to the Towers of Midnight - which is probably why thirteen of them were built. Also, the book was originally supposed to be entitled The Three Towers (dunno why Brandon thought that was a good idea), because of Ghenjei and the White/Black Towers. But most of the Black Tower stuff didn't quite make it in the book.

Agreed. I think Brandon put it in because of all those pages of backstories he wrote in TGS - he got a lot of flak for that because we learn in ACOS (also via a letter to Elayne, and Nynaeve) that Mat has no love for writing, even with all those memories. Buncha illiterate soliders, probably.

Eh, I disagree if for no other reason than the prose. Brandon's getting better, but he still gives a sort of YA feel to the writing. But that's aside from the continuity issues. I should probably blame the beta readers for that; I have no idea what possessed them to think that webmasters would make good beta readers.

Enjoyed ToM, but felt a little bit of a let down at not getting some things resolved and annoyed at places. That being said, A Memory of Light should totally kick-ass.

Yeah, the only one that really bothered me was the Black Tower.

I mean, I know Rand has a megashitton full of stuff to take care of, but dont you thing a tower full of hundreds (i guess) of male channelers he will need for the last battle being led by a man he really doesnt even know and he knows there is something wrong with trying to travel there, that he MIGHT need to take time to look into it?

No, no, I'm sure its fine.

Other than that i thoroughly enjoyed it.
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

Finished this late last week... taken some time to let everything sink in..... and my 2 pence worth:

1) Awesome Yarn... went down very smooth, took less to get into than the previous one
2) Loved the whole Snakes and Foxes bit with Mat, just goes to show that one has to quantify ones wishes and requests
3) Perrin finally stepped up to the plate and showed why he is Tavern....
4) There were some confusing bits that came out of the blue, but then made snese from a timing point of view... though one was never 100% sure if it was Steel Rand or Fluffy Rand time in some cases...
5) Avienda's view into the future was interesting.... can it be changed and is this what the Wise Women meant by a remnant of a remnant will remain?

I doubt the Aiels futurw could be so bleak or that he could leave the seanchan so unchecked. To bleak an ending. My theory of the remnant of a remnant would be the shaido who refuse to abandon tradition and remain in the waste while the rest of the Aiel move on with their lives to something else. I also have had a dream of rand approaching the brotherless and making it right for a long time.

i loved this book, I feel that the pace was the same all the way through. there was no build up in my opinion each chapter was great and eventful. the ending didn't feel like that of the other books because of this, it actually did feel to me as the middle book of a last book. full of good scenes and events. i enjoyed Tam being in 2 presents. he was with early perrin and late rand. I get the timeframe, as long as they all come together in the same place at the same time then I don't see any problems with it. especially since the visions that rand, matt and perrin have of one another to show us where abouts in the story they are. Like in the gathering storm rand sees perrin speaking with galad. well we see the events building up to that in this book and then what happens next.

i got this on friday, finished it on saturday and will be re reading it again soon. very enjoyable
Apt is the only one who reads this. Apt is nice.

Before I forget did anyone else find the confrontation between Rand and the Borderlands a little contrived?
