I've actually got two copies of this now. Got it while I was in London, forgot I'd pre-ordered it on Amazon.

Awesome. First novel in this series to make me well up -- three times in the Prologue alone! Every bloody scene with Lan was sheer awesome. Can't wait to see what happens next.
It is perfectly monstrous the way people go about nowadays saying things against one, behind one's back, that are absolutely and entirely true.

I really liked this book, it was full of good scenes I have been waiting for like forever it feels like.

Spoiler

Only thing that sucks is another wait for the final book!

I just got the book this weekend and am about 200 pages in, the next chapter I start is with Min in Tear. Without any spoilers for the rest of the book, could someone please explain to me the timeline of the major characters leading up to this? I know they aren't all happening simultaneously, but Grady just told Perrin that the taint from Saidin had been cleansed a couple weeks ago. Umm, didn't Rand do that like 4 books ago? I'm confused and just need a broad strokes outline of wtf is going on.
So, you're the historian who survived the Chain of Dogs.
Actually, I didn't.

It seems you stand alone.

I just read this and enjoyed it, made me genuinely excited for the final WOT, definitely one of the better WOT outings.

Re timeline issue mentioned above, I wasn't on track with the timeline from these books at all. As far as I can tell large parts of it happen stimultaneously with the previous book, with rands sections further forward in time. How Mat and Perrins timeframe related to that I have no idea. After a while getting really confused about this, I decided that the timeline was not important and let it flow.

I suspect Terez will come and explain in a bit, but I'd really like to know what time everyone is on, especially the seanchean and the black tower(who surely must be further back in time than everyone else in the book for there plotlines to fit into the final book)

rand is definitely ahead in terms of time for this novel. at least until the very end.

@WJD - don't be afraid if you feel tears welling up at the end of that chapter, a man would have to have a heart of stone to feel nothing at that scene.

Perrin, Mat, and Elayne are about a month behind Rand and Egwene at the beginning of the book, and they slowly catch up. By the end of the book, they're almost matched up. But the WoT Chronology might be helpful to you:

http://www.stevenac....ot/wotchron.htm

It's been about two months since the Cleansing when Grady says that (as if he hadn't already told Perrin in KOD that saidin was clean, but I digress). WoT weeks have 10 days though.

By the way...for some reason the timeline issues don't bother me at all, but they have been bothering a lot of fans. Like I told them...once you've read King's Desperation and Bachman's The Regulators back to back, you'll never be confused by a book again.

Those two books are awesome. Different "where's" and "when's" along the Beam.

Enjoyed ToM, but felt a little bit of a let down at not getting some things resolved and annoyed at places. That being said, A Memory of Light should totally kick-ass.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

I think the only complaint I have (and it is a minor one) is
Spoiler

“The others followed, and found themselves in a small, stuffy basement, which would have been damp, smelly, close, and dark, were it not, in fact, well-lit, which prevented it from being dark.”

The astute reader noticed years ago that the covers don't have much to do with what's in the books at all.

At least they're not US-edition GOTM bad.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Halfway thru and enjoying it.

It's funny to me how this series has evolved to the point where i assess a WoT book on its merit within the series as opposed to by comparison with anything else, ie, the way i compare most fantasy lit to MBF.

- Abyss, selective.

OK, I'm only about six chapters in, and ... Kateri Nepvue? Seriously?

But I'm probably the only one here who gets the joke. I'm sure there will be other characters with names like Chaid Oruzela and Johun S. Noevake.

And I about choked when someone named Vordarian showed up. Guess Sanderson's a Bujold fan.

Most of the new character names came from a charity contest to get your name in the book. :)

i want to point out the innate lame-itude of this but mil sf authors have been writing their buddies into books for decades, so it was just a question of time.

- Abyss, was hoping for a few more decades...

Ah, OK. I thought it was interesting that a devoted rasfwrjian made it in, and thought maybe Sanderson knew something about the online fan base, going waaay back. Jordan did.

It was also neat that the last name had that same mis-spelling.

Chapter 8, the Seven-Striped Lass, features Melissa Craib, webmaster of tarvalon.net. The Dusty Wheel is Theoryland, featuring webmaster (innkeeper) Matt Hatch. The Happy Throng is Dragonmount, featuring webmaster Jason Denzel.

What was up with Nakomi? The Aiel that Aviendha met on her way into Rhuidean?
