Hogwartz Legacy looks pretty good. Not quite sure about the overall quality.

There's a lot of attention to detail and faithful recreation of elements from the Potter books. But art style also seems a bit too realistic in places. I think I'd have prefered a more cartoonish style. Some of the characters look and talk like Sims by way of an Eastern European developer (Spiders Studio specifically). Some of the settings look like something out of an Xbox 360 games.

And yet other parts look really beautiful and clearly there's a lot to explore for a Harry Potter fan. I hope the game leans more towards school life and less into what ever YA plot they've got cooking.

The Potter fan in me hope this game rocks.

Silly Apt, Spiders are French!

Speaking of, GreedFall 2 was announced. And Steelrising has a new story trailer. Should be out in September, and it's releasing on GOG, so I'm going to toss some money their way.

HARDSPACE: SHIPBREAKER came out today and has been wracking up great reviews. It's basically a ship-disassembly game. You play an engineer working and living in a shipyard orbiting Earth. Your job is to break apart derelict spacecraft and making sure their various parts get recycled properly. This starts off being easy and then gets harder, as you start receiving ships that are still partially-pressurised, or have explosive oxygen cylinders on board or electrical hazards.

You're working for a company, but because the company has paid for your space habitat, all your food, water, power, clothes and air, you start the game in debt to them, to the tune of 1.2 billion credits (!). As you dismantle ships you use up oxygen and fuel, but you have to buy more supplies of them from the company. So you have to keep your income above your expenses. The starting ships do a good job of this, with you clearing 1.5-2 million on each one, but obviously that's still going to take forever to pay off the debt. You can take on bigger ships which yield way more money, but you need to buy more specialised equipment to take them apart. There's this constant tension between how much you pay out to make your life easier and more efficient, and just trying to make as much profit as possible to bring down your debt and go home. There's also a side-line in that as you work you gain experience, and at a certain point you become a fully certified shipbreaker with the possibility of going solo.

There is a storyline, which kicks in when other workers manage to contact you and let you know they're thinking of forming a union. The company does not take this too kindly and the game puts you in the place of having to decide about joining forces with your fellow workers or knuckling down and trying to get your debt cleared ASAP.

I'm a couple of hours into the game so far and it's a very polished, enjoyable experience so far with lots of fun features to the game (a very nice 3D physics model in particular).

The developers, Blackbird Interactive, are the people behind the HOMEWORLD series of space-RTS games. They're also working on HOMEWORLD 3, due out later this year. HARDSPACE started as a gamejam project which transformed into a full-scale game. Amusingly, they used the title because it was the original working title of their RTS DESERTS OF KHARAK before they regained the HOMEWORLD IP, so it was pre-trademarked and they didn't have to pay again to register a new name.

The game is available now on PC via Steam. Console versions are on their way for later this year.

Sony doing a State of Play Thing on the 2d

Keighleys (Summer Game Fest showcase) and Microsoft's Not-E3 thing are the week after that, I think.

Also, a wild Returnal-like listing has appeared in SteamDB (featuring words like "Atropos" and tags of being "sci-fi, third-person shooter, rouguelike" etc) so that's kinda neat

Stray (the cyberpunk cat game) should be out in July

Maybe next week I'll do a thread for the summer announcement things...

Will try and catch some of them. Keighley's event has the best production value, hell it outdid E3. So I'm looking forward to that the most. I really want to see the Microsoft/Bethesda deal though. Hopefully at one of the events (probably Sony) we'll get a look at God of War: Ragnarok.

Ionno about Microsoft this year. Both Starfield and Redfall are delayed, and S. T. A. L. K. E. R. 2 is MIA (for obvious reasons). I heard that Perfect Dark is struggling in development.

Hopefully there's some Fable, Avowed and cool Xbox Publishing titles. Rumored to be a Gears collection coming up, too.

State of Play is mostly 3rd party and VR... But I'd guess Ragnarok is gonna get a teaser for a special State of Play.

Yeah, I scanned through that Sony State of Play.

Some of the things that I'm interested in.

A big Horizon Forbidden West update is out now, with new game+ option. Dang it, I still need to finish it! I've been sidelined by problems with my console, got way into playing Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, and too busy lately. I wish Feb/March didn't have so many games released that I had to play. Not sure what else is included in the big update. I think there is some flexibility now incorporated into being able to modify build outs and respec skill points.

Also, a new Horizon title exclusive to VR called Horizon: Call of the Mountain.

A game titled "The Callisto Protocol". Never played Dead Space myself, but it looks like a spiritual successor. Better have your brown pants on when playing this one.

Tunic is coming to PlayStation this fall. I've read great reviews about the game. Probably will be getting it.

And there's just something about Stray.

The Callisto Protocol definitely looked very similar to Dead Space. Got that stomp animation in there we all love.

Resident Evil 4 also looks cool.

Never going to play those games though. Too scary, but I'll watch their let's plays.

Lol, the countdown. I hate those. Why would you sit, waiting for like a 1/2 hour before the event kicks off? To participate in the shitposting on the chat? Who was the "celebrity" in the robot at the end ("what's up n-n-nerds")

That's Suda51

I'm hoping that this means Devolver is bankrolling the remaster of Shadows of the Damned.

Oh snap, Microsoft/Bethesda will add another "Extended" thing two days after their main showcase. And holy crap, it's going to be 90 minutes long. I'm guessing that will mean some longer game play segments? I also wonder if indeed we will see some Starfield now. I sure hope it isn't just a bunch of boring interviews with developers and such. There will probably be a lot of Todd Howard in our faces though.

Jeff Gerstmann left Giant Bomb.

I think it may have only been me and Morgoth who listened to Giant Bomb but it feels like the closing of a chapter. I stopped following Giant Bomb when most of the regular crew left to do Nextlander. The new people didn't have much chemistry and podcasts over live stream isn't great to begin with.

But now Gerstmann left. Feels sort of sad. The site changed, the people got older and started families, but I still remember the first era between 2008-2013. Giant Bomb was special in the age before personality driven YouTube videos and Twitch Streaming. It was a tight crew of industry veterans who knew a lot and did a lot of knew stuff.

I miss the Giant Bomb Classic. I miss Ryan Davis.

Finished ZELDA BREATH OF THE WILD.

Didn't have EVERY shrine opened, but I had all the Beasts done, the Master sword, and Master shield and most of the good stuff already.

It's funny, Ganon was not as hard to beat as I expected him to be...I was not expecting the third form though, and was happy that I was able to do him in with half a heart left from the previous two Forms of him.

It's one of the best games I've ever played, and I enjoyed every second of it. Got my Switch for X-mas 2021, and it's taken me just under 6 months of sporadic playing to beat it.

Time well spent.

I am still playing POKEMON: ARCEUS....and since I've finished BOTW now I'l have more time for it.

And SHREDDERS REVENGE comes out on Thursday, so that will be good, and I should get into ORI as well (which I got on a sale). Lots of Switch fun to come!

I really enjoyed Zelda Breath of the Wild as well. I fully believe that game was worth the price of the console itself.

Can't wait for the sequel.

Huh, they made Minecraft survival horror.

New update has ruined underground cities full of noise sensors, if there's another specific block near the noise sensor it can send an alarm signal out and if enough of those trigger, the warden appears and he is SCARY as all hell. The soundtrack in these areas is super goddamn tense too. Really well done.

The revamped Playstation Plus launched in Europe today. Took a look through the new Classics collection (PS1, PS2, PSP, PS3 games).

Good news: You can buy them as well as access them through the top tier Premium subscription (and you can buy them without being subscribed to that tier).

Bad news: It is exactly the same games as were offered before the revamp, just styled differently. That is to say, it is an extremely slight collection (e.g. around 20 PS2 games. For PS1, Ape Escape, Jumping Flash, Resident Evil, Syphon Filter, Wild Arms seems to be the total extent of it).

Edit: I did miss a few out: Oddworld, Tekken 2, a couple of Worms games...apparently 13 total.

Edit 2: Somewhere between 130-250 PS3 games (hard to know through a quick glance because not all available games actually show up in the catalogue, which...yeah), which are also streaming-only, not downloadable.
