I played Hades on the Switch. I couldn't get into the combat. It felt too one note, just one room after the other and I never really clicked with most of the weapons or abilities you could select.
I am thinking of giving it another go though, when it arrives on Game Pass.

Axiom Verge 2 (and like 6 other games) are out today for the Switch.
AV2 is also out on PC, but only on the Epic store so... I'll pass for now. Still gotta play the original at some point.

My understanding of Hades is that each playthrough you unlock some type of experience that carries over, and so eventually you have purchased some big upgrades and it really opens up the combat.
But I'm waiting until Friday when it hits Gamepass to try it.

Oh I could definitely tell I was building up strength through unlockables, it was just the moment to moment gameplay that didn't click with me.

I loved the speed of Hades' combat, and to me every round felt different because of how much the weapons and boons altered the gameplay. Not to mention the different weapon forms.

Hades fascinates me, but I`m waiting until it (inevitably) comes to GOG.
Still gotta play Transistor and Pyre at some point.

You should, those games are amazing, though in very different ways.

Dipped my little toes into Hades. Enjoying it so far.
I feel like some of the enemy attacks happen before they should, but maybe by Monster Hunter reflexes have deteriorated.
I do like the roguelike difficulty of it - but I also like that every single run lets you build up some resources so that you are just slightly stronger next run.
However - another game thats been taking a lot of my time recently is Hood: Outlaws and Legends. They added a PvE only mode thats a ton of fun. You play as Friar Took, Little John, Robin of Loxley, and Marianne, each one has different abilities and stuff. And the goal: To play multiplayer assassins creed while you try to steal the treasure from the Sheriff.

heh, saw this heading for a write-up of the Ascent: "The Ascent' Is Cyberpunk Diablo Contra And I Am Hooked".
Didn't have time to read it, but that might sell it for me. PC / Xbox only though, so no soup for me.

Was Sony supposed to do another State of Play? But it just quietly will not happen? Something to do with big titles they had planned to come out in 2021 have been delayed?
Also Gamescom starts next Tuesday. Its setting is in Europe. I haven't really paid attention to that event in past years. Is there supposed to be any big announcements at that this year?

The link below sums it (Gamescom) up pretty well, but to be clear it's all just predictions and nothing confirmed I think.
TLDR what we may see more of;
- Halo Infinite & Forza Horizon 5 (Xbox stream)
- Horizon: Forbidden West, God of War Ragnarok, Lost Judgement (Sony Stream)
- Metroid Dread, Breath of the Wild (2) (Nintendo stream)
- Starfield, Redfall (Bethesda stream - hah I wish!)
- Far Cry 6, Avatar game (Ubisoft stream)

Isn't Travis Scott the guy from Cattle Decapitation? Or am I getting twisted somewhere?
Anyway I have Stellaris on PC game pass now. Bye-bye, all of free time.

GamesCom is always in Europe. It's an annual event in Cologne.
Bandai Namco is gonna be there, so Elden Ring gameplay possible.
Deep Silver might have a few neat surprises.... or they might just be doing marketing for King's Bounty which is out next week.
I was hoping to see more from Focus Home, like more Evil West & a release date, but it seems less likely now. Though they "re-announced" Aeon Must Die with the same trailer as the one they used at Sony's SoP last year, so I wouldn't be shocked if that game shows up at GamesCom, despite the sketchy business circumstances.
Also, THQN is conspicuously absent from the list of participating partners, given how much stuff they showed last time around. I would still love to see a Darksiders reveal, but something like more Elex 2 info feels a lot more plausible.

Anybody played Disco Elysium?
It looks interesting and a bit unusual in a good way.

I played the first 3 hours or so of Disco Elysium with a friend a while ago. My friend hadn't realized what kind of game it was and didn't really gel with it, but I liked it.
I haven't played that many isometric RPG point and clicks before but from what I am familiar with, Disco Elysium clearly makes a lot of fun choices, subverting certain concepts and gamefying strange ideas. You can kill yourself in the opening minutes because you're too out of shape and too hung over. Political ideologies and beliefs, like racial segregation and communism can define your character depending upon how hard you lean into choices and roleplaying options. You stumble around with an epic hangover, collecting bottles you can recycle for coins, trying to beg money off people so you can buy cigarettes and painkillers.
It's weird and stupid and funny.

Sounding even better. My interest was piqued with the 'no combat' but a load of interesting skills and character attributes that change the game.

The latest video for this game. Gosh darnit it looks sweet. Love the Chinese style Dragon.
Who do you guys think would win in a fight between a European Dragon and a Chinese Dragon?

Depends on your lore. In my opinion Chinese dragons are magical creatures, connected with wishes, luck, guardianship. While European dragons are more like natural monsters, sometimes a kind of Christian symbol of evil or a Nordic Boogyman.
My money is on the Chinese dragon just turning the European dragon into a newt.

It depends on what kind of European dragon. Several of the mythologies had intelligent and magical dragons, whereas in early Christianity they were more akin to beasts. Chinese dragons are avatars of a specific element or something, right?
