I guess we have different points where incredulity punches us in the organs, then. At least neither of us can point out why their example is worse without realising they're defending the indefensible from the other film and spontaneously doing an impersonation of the SS guy from Raiders of the Lost Ark after opening the Ark.
CASE SET ON FIRE, SEALED IN CONCRETE AND DUMPED IN THE BIGGEST WASTE DISPOSAL SITE IN THE BRITISH ISLES, MANCHESTER CITY
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Got to admit, the trailer looks awesome.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

I am still not hopeful. I reckon it's going to be mediochre at best.
It's got all the hall marks of an 80s action film or a 90s B movie. It's got a good director on it, but I seriously doubt, from what I've seen of the trailer material, that there is enough meat on this story for it to actually work.

AvP2 was Aliens intruding in a Dawson's Creek episode as far as I can recall. Admittedly I have tried to blank out most of the memories of that film with a mental sign that says 'In case of emergency break head against glass'.
I am cautiously optimistic about Predators for two main reasons. The first is that it has the potential to be a great action flick with testosterone fuelled 'Daka daka daka boom kerpow aaaaaaaaaaggggggggghhhhhhh' moments. Everyone needs a film like that now and again.
Secondly, they are going back to the original concept of group in wilderness gets stalked and killed.
Ok so it will lack a lot of the suspense that was in the original, but it still might be cool... please let it be cool.

Only me hoping that the predators will kill every single human because they are just more bloody awesome ?
I bet that the movie will end with some humans killing some predators and then escaping or whatever in a vessel, but that will suck as humans are no match for a predator. But lets see how the movie story goes

I'm going to see this movie, not because it will be good (it likely will be very shallow and without surprises), but because it is a Predator movie. It has Predators, being badass, using awesome Predator tech and weapons. What more could I possibly want? XD
Besides, even in AVP, I root for the Predators...even though I know they won't win, badassery levels pretty much go Predator > Alien > Human regardless of situation. Unless it's Alien/Aliens, then Ripley/Hicks > Aliens.

First on the boards to see this? I think so!
And it was great. Really, truly awesome reboot of the franchise. It wasn't perfect, but it far exceeded my expectations on the plot and character fronts, and had great action to boot (plus plenty of shout-outs to both Predator films, AND to the Alien franchise as well (not a major spoiler, but...)
It had excellent effects, too, the Predators were nice and athletic, and despite the cinema screwing up the sound for the first, I dunno, third or so of the film (it was fine, just quiet - lacking surround sound) the sound was good too, especially once that was fixed.
I'd give it...4/5 stars, I guess. A great ride, fits with the franchise, and I actually want Nimrod (that poor man) Antal to be the director of any future AvP or Predator films. Kudos to him for making this right

Really? The few reviews I've read so far have slammed it. Of course, it being action sci-fi that's not that surprising, but still they panned everything.

AVP2 had the predator kill the hot chick with a massive fuckoff throwing star, AVP had the predator hollow out an alien skull and give it to Strong Female Lead as a shield, as well as turning the tail into a spear. There's the one glimmer of notbad and the nadir of each film, respectively.
Sadly, that scene was a bastardiation of an infinitely cooler scene in the original Dark Horse AVP comic and if you read that, the one cool glimmer in the flic was barely that.

So did Pred2 and it still works for what it is. Really, the Preds are an inherently cool visual and concept. The first two movies work even after the reveal because we got fun larger-than-life characters and a cool setting. AvP 1 and 2 fail for this same reason. Large cast of disposeable characters, lame settings (the maze was silly, Dawson's Creek was worse), and no amount of pred v alien action can save that. In fact, I could probably say much the same about the first two Alien flics vs the second two, which were still both better than the AvPs. And that's saying a lot when it comes to Sigourney & Winona Shoot Things.

No doubt. And again, the Pred flics work because you actually believe that the hopelessly outmatched humans have a chance and you want to see how they pull it off.
The theory for Pred's is uber competent humans being stalked. The challenge is to make them interesting.
Machete vs Predator is interesting. The Pianist vs Predator i'm not so sure.

I have "guarded optimism" for the film. . . I will probably go see it though. The 77% on Rotten Tomatoes is encouraging.

IGN gave it 3.5, for some reason didn't like Lawrence Fishburn's character (which wasn't anywhere near as bad as 'almost ruining' the film, btw) thought the Pred-dogs were CGI-ish (well, uh, how the fuck were they supposed to do it?) and otherwise had generally good things to say about the film.
I think my main qualms were nitpicky - planets floating over horizon were cool, but...laws of physics? Never heard of them. Far too large, far too close, to each other even if not necessarily to the 'planet' the humans were on (it may have just been a moon).
And MAJOR SPOILER:
Spoiler
Uhm...other than that, it was pretty much fine. The problem is, you can't really revolutionise the films - I've seen people complain it was too 'cliche' too 'b grade' and 'a direct copy of the original' - well, how exactly do you envisage the concept of "Group/single alien hunters eliminating band of humans" going that isn't all of the above? They took their time, made plenty of shout outs, made the action great, the characters and plot were great for a b-grade film, if that's what it is, and it managed to be different enough to the original while providing homage in spades, imo.
I went to see this film because it's the sequel 2 should have been. It's the film that was rebooting the franchise back to it's original premise. That's the WHOLE POINT of it. The casting was great, everyone played their parts fairly well, and the lesser characters were nuked early on - as they should have been.
Anyone who goes into this expecting to have: memory of Predator erased on entry, experience it all afresh, or, have a completely new experience that redefines the franchise....what the fuck is wrong with you? No movie can do that. What this movie will do is: give you an awesome ride, remind you of great times had in past movies, give you hope for the franchise, start to wash away the bad tastes that are AvP and AvP:R.
People are giving this bad reviews because they're either trying to imagine it stand-alone, but compare it to their first experience with the franchise, or because they're trying to compare it to the 'modern movie' (Avatar, Lord of the Rings, Shutter Island, whatever), when it is in fact superior to these, because it doesn't pretend to have deep morals or philosophical bullshit spread throughout.
It hits the right notes, it reinvigorated the awesome that is Predator. What more can you want?
