Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

You guys are so lovely :) . I joined a few weeks back but I have a query and I'm not used to forums. I have a bunch of humorous Malazan images. If you guys would be interested, where would it be appropriate to post? My apologies, I worry about online etiquette and I am unfamiliar with this site.

You could create a new thread in the Art forum if they're images you or someone else created, or maybe the funny pics thread here

https://forum.malaza...pics-v-20-nsfw/

in the off-topic area.

Thanks for asking about etiquette, never hurts to ask.

And you're welcome, nice to have you here. :)

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to say hi - I'm brand new to the forum.

I'm currently doing my first (of what I'm sure will be many) read-throughs, almost done with Dust of Dreams - loving every second!

I vote the new one, because the underscore will be dragging them down.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

Greetings, friends! I'm not really a lurker, since I was still reading the series and wanted to avoid all spoilers as possible. But today, friends, I'm happy to announce... that I'm finished. Last night I read the final page of The Crippled God and am now ascended to a mental state in which I don't quite know what the hell to do with my life after a year in the Malazan world.
I never hid my hurts.I never disguised my dreams. And I never lost my way.And only the fallen can rise again.

Lurker turned newcomer here. Can anyone point me to the crackpot theories with the most aluminum foil?

Anyway, on a re-read of Midnight Tides with Reaper's Gale next (read DG to HoC to BH in December). Might throw some ICE novels in once I collect them on audible. Also, I've gone through both released Kharkanas novels and am very stoked for Karsa trilogy to drop.

Looking forward to sharing quotes, headcanon, theories and memories (of ice) with each of you :)
Abnegation.

Hello everyone, just signed up the other day. I'm new to the Malazan series, just finished Memories of Ice and started House of Chains. Hands down the best fantasy series I've ever read, it actually does "alter the reader's perceptions of reality" and change my perspective on life. Other series just feel like a shadow of Erikson's work now. Half the time I'm confused , but that's part of the fun of this series for me, the story just keeps unraveling and getting more complex. I'm mainly here to ask questions, I can't provide much info at the moment being so early on in the series. I'll do my best to label spoilers
"We humans do not understand compassion. In each moment of our lives, we betray it. Aye, we know of its worth, yet in knowing we then attach to it a value, we guard the giving of it, believing it must be earned, T'lan Imass. Compassion is priceless in the truest sense of the word. It must be given freely. In abundance."
