Hello everyone,

I keep coming across this site in my frequent Malazan related internet searches and though I'd join at last. I was a bit reluctant since I'm only on the fourth book but I have all of them sitting there waiting for me to catch up. The last forum I was on was years ago and was Harry Potter, I feel like at last I've been dragged into a semblance of adulthood although considering it took me ten minutes to work out how to post, maybe not. I am a big fantasy fan and am lucky to have an uncle who gives me lots of his books, I started reading the Malazan books last year and have fallen in love with the Bridgeburners and the Mott Irregulars (despite their brief appearance). Anyway hopefully I'll be brave enough to post on here.

Well I suppose I better get a move on with House of Chains.

I've been a lurker off and on for a few years and decided to get an account and start the mad speculation after recently finishing DoD. I live in South Korea, so I won't be posting at normal hours. A good friend of mine (probably on here in some form or another) introduced me to the books a few years back and I've bought and read each one upon release since then. Though I've only borrowed the Bauchelain and Broach and RotCG books, started the latter and not gotten around to the former.

I teach English for a living but maintain my sanity by making music. You can download my latest project here: http://www.filefacto..._-_Diosunis.zip but it's probably not ideal listening while reading Erikson since you can't really do anything other than read Erikson when you're reading Erikson lest your head explode from information overload.

Welcome to all new peoples! Glad to have you on the forum.

For security reasons I think it is necessary to point out, that, the small green plus sign in the lower right corner of my posts, is in fact the way to safetly view my profile.

Simply click on the green plus sign (never the red, it will give you a virus!!!) and type in the word - Gullible - . You will instantly be pmed a link that will take you to my real profile, where I have put this weeks winning lotto numbers, the phone number for a free laptop, and a website that is giving out free bacon samples.

...not responsible for any misleading statements in the above

Onearm's Host here, long time lurker that has decided to join the fray. Joined up mostly b/c I am tired of having nobody to talk to regarding these books. Before I picked up Gardens of the Moon in '03 I was becoming seriously disenfranchised with the fantasy genre, which kind of sucked b/c fantasy was what made me into the reading maniac I am today. Tolkien, ALL the Dragonlance and Forgotten realms books were the ones that I started reading when I was younger. Anyways, Steven Erikson (All Hail!) brought to life a universe that is still blowing me away with every book that is released. Sometimes I worry that fantasy will forever be ruined for me after this series. Afterall how can you go back to -kid is an urchin-finds out he is a descendant of a great warrior/mage/god-has trials and tribulations then saves the day and of course gets the girl? You can"t that's how.

What else should I put? I'm from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Toll the Hounds after the 2nd reading is far and away my favorite of the series, with Memories of Ice and Deadhous Gates in a tie for 2nd.

Look forward to extolling the virtues of one, Steven Erikson on this board and continuing to use the brains of posters here to understand this series even better. In times of great confusion I have come here and found some explantions that helped a great deal.

Howdy do there ladies and gents

Long time aimless reader of the site, first time poster. Good old London boy trying to act grown up (it helps that I am losing my hair, although i work at a museum entertaining kids in various hats and wigs, oh well one step forward, one step back)

Started reading the series at the start all thoses yonks ago, I remember not being able to finish Gotm and leaving it for a month, got bored and then thought I'd try and finish, many years later hear I am.

Series is unlike anything else I have read, with amazing complexity, shifting back and forth along that old timeline, interesting and some awesomely powerful characters (bring on the Pust) and not a 'evil' dark one in sight.

Can't wait to get stuck in with something hopefully coherent, or at least with some structure, or logic, heck proper punctuation and grammar will have to do me first. Hopefully first of many.

Be seeing you

Greetings forum dwellers,

I am quite new to the series but I really like it!! It's a difficult read since I have ADD :) I get lost with the characters quite often but still... this series is beyond epic!

Welcome newest members! Post away in the book forums or anything else that catches your fancy!
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

New member here. Read through the entire series after hearing about it on another message board, just found this one recently.

Looking forward to receiving more than blank stares when bringing up the series or its characters.

Lurking for 3+ years now.

I would like to thank everyone for their insightful thoughts and thoughtful insights that I have been reading/stealing to keep these crazy stories in some semblance of order. I have just started reading DoD and have had to spend more than a few hours reading threads on characters and places and plots to get back up to speed. I think I have read more on this wonderful site than I have of the new book.

Thanks for helping me keep from having to re-read this whole thing again for the 3rd time.

Greetings :veryangry: I can't express how happy I am to have found this website!! This means I no longer have to annoy everyone within earshot by quoting and attempting to discuss the series :p

I'm also very excited to see so much art & music that has been inspired by the Malazan world.

Yo.

I read on a website that this series was recommended, so I went on a 3-week reading spree where I gobbled up all 9 books. I finished around last week.

I was disappointed reading book 9 even though I had a blast with the other 8 books. I wanted to vent my frustration, so I searched ceaselessly for a website dedicated to this series, and I found one.
