I guess it's only polite to check in upon arrival. Id like to start by saying that I only just recently discovered the Malazan Empire, and the writings of Steven Erikson, and I.C. Esslemont . As well as this community of which I am now a very new part. Ive only read Night of Knives, and Gardens of the Moon, but I am looking forward to the rest of these tales. I'll try to stay out of the way until I think I can contribute something.
Can you dig it ?

Welcome to all the newest members! Pretty big influx lately, and that's awesome. I wonder if it has something to do with the main arc coming to a close with The Crippled God this year?

Anyways, welcome and enjoy the forums.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Hello all. I'm Lucky Revenant. Started reading these books a couple years back because of a friend's recomendation.

Just recently read Dust of Dreams, and was really confused by the ending. Could they really do what it looks like they did? I dunno. Anyway, reading it resurrected my inner fanboy for this series, so I started looking for information and even contributed many examples to the TV Tropes wiki (a site I've been a member of for a few years now).

And now that I've introduced myself to y'all, I eagerly await to get to know you folks better.

Hello everyone! This is my first post in this forum and so I feel that a little bit of introduction is needed...
I am a newb to the Malazan series (thank you Powder) and have only read up to Bonehunters...so no spoilers please! I am not sure who my favorite character is yet though. Karsa and Rake are obvious frontrunners but Kruppe and Bugg have some serious potential. Enough of that...this is not the forum for that so...
As I alluded to earlier, I am friends with Powder and am going to the same school as he is. Do you remember that story Powder said about a friend never being in the ocean? Yeah, that was me. It was cool but I am still a little nervous every time I go because it is STILL salty and there are STILL animals in it...and I have been bitten by a crab...blah! (nervous shivers). I am graduating this spring and hopefully will be continuing on into a PhD program next fall. I'm 25 years old, have a beautiful girlfriend who I will be proposing to this spring. My favorite color is blue and I don't like Asian food.
This topic is awesome and I am glad to see it has made it to tis forum because it is important to discuss these questions. My only concern (for myself) is that I am jumping into a discussion after so much has been said. I have read the whole forum so far but if I say something that has already been said, please forgive.
Well...after that nice long intro, I must be goingPosted Image cause I have class...but I will be back soon.

One last thing, how do I change my picture? I did some searching in my profile and the place I figured it would be kept giving me an error message....

Welcome to the latest three arrivals.

@ Pesho: Your English ain't that bad

@ TheBeetleking: Did the error occur when uploading the picture? When you follow the two rules that are stated at the Change Photo (All photos must be no larger than 100 kB. Photos must be no bigger than 150 pixels by 150 pixels.)
there shouldn't be a problem, altho I had some problems changing my picture the last time too. Turned out that altho I had rezised the picture already, it still was to big.

Hello!

I've yet to read a single page of this series, but I am going to begin it after I finish the book I am currently reading. Why? As the series really started to pick up in popularity a few years back, it caught my interest. I did a little bit of research, and found that some people loved Erikson's style of writing and some people did not. I also read a review by a guy I believe to have an excellent opinion and he didn't care for it. At the time, that was enough for me to decide against reading the series.

As a book collector, I spend a good amount of time on various small publishing press websites. I noticed that SubPress was going to do a limited for GotM. Michael Komarck's cover art intrigued me. Again, I tried to gauge people's opinion of the book. The verdict was the same: some people love the series and some people hate it. Now, I've decided to do what I should have done a few years back. I need to read them myself!

That's not the reason I'm here though. I am here because I am hoping Erikson collectors might be able to help me out. I tried to find a copy of the SubPress GotM for sale but failed. I just want to get an idea of what people are selling/buying them for -I'm hoping it's not too high! If I do enjoy the series, the collector in me will want to get ahold of one of the SubPress numbered editions.

So, can anyone out there tell me more about the state of Malazan Empire collecting? Is there a particular area of the board for collection related discussion? Aside from collecting/reading books, I love baseball and bears. I also love board and card games.

Oii,

I've been reading the forum for a while now, and I was really tired of not being able to comment.
so, I created an account. Posted Image

The first time I saw the series (translated) I really thought I'd never read them..
One year later I ordered GotM, and never experienced any of the "confusion",
I just loved not to know anything about what I read.

btw, I'm from Belgium.

Greetings and salutations,

I'm Vesper (obviously not my real name, I decided on something reminiscent of the nom de guerres sported by members of the Malazan Army). I've been a fan of the Malazan books for some time now, and read them voraciously -- all thousand (plus) pages per book. I'm myself a writer, though I haven't achieved much professionally as of yet. When I finish the new book I'm working on and it achieved international acclaim, however, I'll be sure to get everybody free copies.

I've lurked here a couple times, and I'm sorry to say but I normally find myself somewhat disappointed with the quality of some of the projects (notably the Malazan Encyclopedia). Please don't take this as criticism, I'm sure everyone's too busy to keep it fully updated and all. I am, however, hoping to be able to participate in any efforts to expand and improve the Encyclopedia.

Anyways, I always hate giving introductions, so I will just see everyone on the forums.

Welcome to all the new people !

Vesper, if you PM one of the mods, i'm sure they will be able to point you in the right direction concerning the encyclopedia. I don't know who is currently overseeing that project but i'm sure any fresh meat for the grinder will be welcomed with open arms.
Now all the friends that you knew in school they used to be so cool, now they just bore you.
Just look at em' now, already pullin' the plow. So quick to take to grain, like some old mule.

Greetings to everyone,

I am new to the forum. Great fan of fantasy literature in general. Have just finished "Dust of Dreams" and thought to register and follow some of the discussions concerning this series of novels.

Hello all!

Finally got round to signing up to this site, although I've been lurking in the background for a while now!

I imagine that many users here will have read far more of the Malazan books than I have done so far (I've only read GoTM and DG, though MoI is sitting on my shelf staring at me accusingly...), but, please, don't hold it against me!

Anyway, that's all from me for now...

Hello to all our new members, I'm very pleased to see so many people joining up, especially from so many different places. Don't worry if your English isn't to hot, this is the internet, nobody cares as long as it's understandable.

Rugburn - probably best to start a thread in the General Book Discussion forum, a few people do collect the series and might have a few tips etc. I suspect you are a more of an enthusiast than anything, but so as you know we do discourage (ie: delete) discussions involving trading or money changing hands, to maintain the integrity of the site as a fan forum over anything else.

I'm sure you won't but it's worth restating here.

Hello there. I have lurked for a time and finally decided to venture into the the forum waters. Without this website's resources and discussion threads, this series would not half as enjoyable as it is. Kudos to the creators and posters. As far as the books go, I am enjoying every twist and turn. The sheer complexity of the world and its denizens put most writers these days to shame. I was a big fan of "The ThousandthFold Thought" series and George RR Martin's books but the MBotF is easily shooting to the top of the list alongside Dune as my favorite series. Its a little sad that the journey is going to end soon but at least the new books by Ian will fill the void for a time more. Anyways, I look forward to posting and debating with the community in the forums.

Hi All,

I have been an avid reader of Eriksons Malazan book of the fallen since the GOTM so many years ago now. I did come across this forum some time ago, but thought today to say hello...*waves*
