The 360 can be noisy, some games worse than others. This can be avoided though by downloading the game to your harddrive. As a security feature you still need to have the disc in the machine to play it, but the disc is not actually being read so it runs silently. I was so happy when I discovered this, because the noise could get horrible. It made Fable 2 nearly unplayable. Now, silence. Lovely silence.

I hadn't even thought of doing that... i'm not even sure how to. Is it easy?

Noise and lack of God of War 3 aside, I still like the 360 more, just for the balance of games that I like, and the quality. I have mine standing up to let a bit of air get to it; I heard somewhere that the original RRoD was caused by the wrong mix in the solder of the circuitboard, so when it overheated it cracked and killed the board - this has apparently been adjusted for newer machines though.

I like the controller better than the PS, too.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Super easy. Put the game in, go to the xbox dashboard. Flip to the game, but instead of pushing start or whatever to load and start playing, I think you hit Y instead. It should say something about details or something, whatever button it says to go there hit that button. Then follow the prompts, one of them should be install or something like that.

A game takes about 6 gigs of your harddrive, which is a lot, but unless you have ADD there's no reason to have a lot of games on the harddrive at once. You can always delete them and put another on.

For the record, you can delete the game from your harddrive without losing your save info, which is important.

If I'm being unclear there is probably easier to follow directions somewhere on the internets. EDIT: RIGHT HERE. Do it though. Silent running, the graphics are slightly better, quicker load times, and I'm wiling to bet longer lifespan for your 360.

Thanks RLY - looks easy... but does this require anything to have been downloaded/updated though, as my 360 isn't on line.

1) Vista > XP if you aren't stupid.
2) How many topics CAN you fit in those things Macros?
3) 360 > PS3 > Wii.
4) The New Star Ocean is 360 exclusive. Another good RPG that PS3 dosen't get, because developers are sick of Sony's shit.

No, you don't need any downloads or updates. It's just an underexposed feature.

Vista is going to use more resources than XP no matter what. I'm running a stripped down version of XP that has ~40 processes running at startup. Regardless of how good your computer is, it'll always be faster if it ran XP. It might have better security features and whatnot, but since we're including the "aren't stupid" clause then the user will have other antivirus/firewall features running anyway.

And as for Sony RPG's--I used to love FF games. FF8 in particular. But I stopped caring once they released FF10...I don't even know how far along the series they are by now.

edit: Although Star Ocean isn't the best example. Isn't that the one with the goofy 10 minute unskippable starting cutscene?

Well, I couldn't find it, so I finally got round to dragging my router to the top of the stairs so the cable could reach, and plugged it in to my 360 - and it automatically downloaded the new interface/startup thing.

Which has the option of installing games.

Thanks for pointing that out in the first place, my xbox is now silent while playing! And I finally got xbox live to check out. :)

Previews say the next one, XIII, is going to challenge/rival 7 for depth of story and battle system.

Also, Macros, I enjoy how you attempt to ridicule me because you have no real response to the points I made.

This is dragging it off topic a bit, but does 13 have real-time battles like 12? Because if so, I'm not going anywhere NEAR that bad boy, they were awful.

I'm suprised M$ haven't been more vocal about that installing games trick. Since one of the main gripes about the 360 is the noise, a fix for that would surely be something they would want to advertise...

You get to Summon stuff again.

I dunno, I am sure you can go to Gamespy and Gamespot and IGN and take a look for yourself there bwoody.

This topic is fail. The correct answer is Wii. Cheap, fun, and you get most major games. I love me my Tomb Raider and Zelda!

Within the confines of this fail topic though - and I think the Xbox 360 is head and shoulders above the PS3, which bathes in its dandruff (eww).

Also, I love Windows Vista - I bought a licensed copy, to boot.

Skywalker - not an M$ hater...

The ultimately correct answer is N64. Clearly. Though it is important to supplement that with an SNES emulator on your computer for the SNES RPGs.

Not an MS hater either - their student-alliance thingy is fantastic, they basically just give away free top-notch versions of their programs and OS's to uni students in north america - vista 64-bit pro for me!

The 360 Star Ocean was terrible. It made me want to rip my eyes out and put a gun to my own head by the time I found the Angel-ish character and found out you have to ride bunnies. The battle is fun, but everything else is either a terrible terrible cliche, poor characters, poor voices for characters, bland plot, etc.

Also, on FFXIII:

I believe they've morphed the real-time battles of XII into a menu-driven interface. As in, you still interact with the enemies in real-time (you can see them before you fight them, and you don't enter a new battle screen, etc) but a menu pops up for you to choose your moves. I can't remember if I read there are some context-sensitive commands or not - I sure hope so. The turns of battle are controlled by some sort of timer like in previous FF installments, too, I think.

There was a whole article in either PLAY or Game Informer, recently, talking all about the new battle interface.

According to Wikipedia, the battle system will be a combination of previous efforts. There'll be a separate battle screen, but it will be based in the environment, and you will still see enemies as you wander around. Or at least, that's how I understood http://en.wikipedia....y_XIII#Gameplay
It is perfectly monstrous the way people go about nowadays saying things against one, behind one's back, that are absolutely and entirely true.
