So, Dances With Smurfs is pretty good then?
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Yeah, I saw this in IMAX 3D this morning and it blew my effing head open. So heart-soaringly brilliant! One of the best films I've seen in a long time.

James Cameron does it again. The man knows how to reinvent cinema.

Seriously, the new Stereoscopic 3D he shot it in (meant to mimic the depth that the human eye sees) is completely immersive and gorgeous!

The story, while simple, still has plenty going for it.

AVATAR is just a REALLY really solid effing film!

Also, bought the soundtrack on the way home, James Horner's score summons up images of Glory, and Titanic while it maintains it's own identity. Great stuff to listen to on the iPod. :crybaby:

Glad I'm not the only one. I thought, what with the hardened film cynics on this here forum, that I would love it and then the snobs would come out and say how much it sucked. :p

Low expectations are key. I went in half expecting to need the flask I brought as soon as the 'oh I louves uuuussss' *mmmwaahh mwwaahh* *giant blue alien sex* started, instead it kept me warm on the walk to the train.

It simply blew me away...

I am still trying to find the right words for it. All i can say is: Cameron has done it again, prepare to be blown away. The characters, the visuals, the JOURNEY... Avatar will carry you far far away.

Never have I, since Star Wars, been this mesmerized by a movie...

An accurate statement. I felt the same way!

Saw it last night in 3D.

Fantastic special effects, even if I kept having to adjust the 3d glasses because they always slipped down the bridge of my nose. That was extremely annoying, as was the incredibly predictable and cliche'd story along with incredibly cheesy dialogue. But no one watches movies for plot anymore, so by today's standards the movie was great.

I agree with Sixty. The movie looked fantastic and it was fun, but I just wasn't a big fan.

First 2 hours was great...but the script took a nose dive after the blue on blue alien poon action.
Visuals are amazing...but the script is rather rediculous.

And the power ballad at the end credits is just flat out imbarrasing

If Star Trek teaches anything, its that human-alien sex is awesomality.

Just saw the 2D version and thought it was absolutely brilliant, yes it was slightly predictable but i still really enjoyed it and am seriously considering going to see the 3D version .

This movie was great. Sure the script is predictable, but it was executed well. Even when I knew what was coming next I was still interested to see it happen. Don't be hater, anyone. Great movie.

Its not bestiality, its interspecies sex :p

I really enjoyed the movie, sure it was dances with wolves in space, but so what? Dances with wolves was a great movie and so was Avatar.

The corporate dude was weak and I was unconvinced with the 'bad guy' colonel scarface dude, but the effects were unbelievable and while the story sagged in the middle it wasn't too bad overall.

What he said.

Actually the script from the first minute was ... not up to what I would have expected from a 15 year labour of love. Way too heavy handed. OK we weren't there for the script, but for me it seriously detracted from the visuals - which themselves weren't as shit-hot mindblowingly PHWOARRRR as people have been wanking on about. They were good, but not life-changing. I was always aware that I was just watching a glorified video game cut scene. Maybe that was the effect of being "only" in 2D, or my dissatisfaction with the script colouring it, but that's just the way it came across.

Oh hell yeah. Should have been used in the "let's get smurfy, Smurfette" scene, if at all.

I'm not a hater though, it was a pleasant diversion, and I didn't actually notice any time drag so obviously it drew me in enough.

3.5 stars. Good but not revolutionary.

When I went to the ticket office I asked for "Dances with Smurfs", and when I explained it they thought that was rather funny. Full marks to Illy there. :p

Dances with Smurfs was from South Park. There was an entire episode devoted just to making that joke, actually.

Okay, the effects on the Na'vi themselves are barnone the BEST CGI human-like realistic features the goddamned best computer artist can create...ever...to this point in our history. If you can find me something better, I will bow down to you...but you won't so I'm not afraid. You want to rant about not liking the movie...fine...but for gods sake don't harp on about the best CGI our species has yet produced mimicking the movements of life itself. A Video game cutscene has NOTHING on this. That's an assinine statement. Sorry dude, but video game companies don't have this kind of money to spend.

Also, the Scorpion helicopters created for the flick are so realistic that I bet you thought they were real set pieces created....not so much, completely CGI.

Come on Sombra...name a flick with superior effects, I dare you ........no?.......(and don't even think of mentioning Gollum, cause Cameron went straight to WETA after he saw LOTR: TTT and hired the artists who worked on him to work on AVATAR).

Also, I am curious when the sci-fi special effects extravaganza movie YOU are directing is coming out? I'll be sure to rush out and see it and then go rant about it not being good enough cause I have nothing better to do. You wanna complain, well that's your god given right, but until you produce something better yourself, you're a just a fanboy whiner in my books. A dime a dozen from the AICN forums. an aspiration if I ever heard one.

Sweet merciful jeebus...it's like you exist to hate on things...what's that about?
