Haha my Classics professor has echoed most of what you've said about Alexander, 300 and Troy, and spent an entire lecture telling us about how Hollywood are a bunch of money-making philistines with no respect for real literature. It was hilarious :p

If you want an accurate representation of a Greek classic then Iphegenia is a really good movie. Very faithful to the original play.

Same thing at our Uni. Every year one of the professors gives a lecture on the Illiad to the first year students. It's more or less been the same lecture for a decade, only changed the year Troy was released.

Usually he starts it with shouting "THE ANGER!" in a deep booming voice and then going on to explain that anger, foremost than any of the other emotions that drove the greek, ANGER was the prime motivator, then he launched into a tale of the beginning of the war and the pissed Achilles sitting and mopping in his tent.

The year where Troy was released how ever, he announced "THE ANGER! The anger when I saw Troy!" And then launched into a 45 minute rant. One of the best lectures I've ever witnessed.

They should have filmed the book Ilium instead of Troy. That would have been cool. I love Dan Simmons.

Southland Tales - could've been awesome, the concept was cool and interesting, but ended up sucking an old hobo's ass. I don't know who to blame. The Rock? Fucking Stifler? Buffy, the goddam vampire slayer?

Alpha Dog - if they had just kept Ben Foster in the second half of the movie and let him beat the crap out of Truelove it would've been pretty good.

Blade 3 - you have Blade and you have Dracula. How do you fuck that up? By making Jessica Biel fight vampires with a light bow while listening to her iPod....jeez

Kingdom of Heaven, Troy, Alexander - I agree with what's been said.
Things and stuffs...and other important objects.

only thing with the beowulf film:
the king says beowulf was famus in vinland (america) but the movie is in the 900reds, america was discoverd by erik the red in year 1000 (ca)

Pretty close on the dates and people - Eric the Red was one of the first settlers of Greenland. His son Leif was possibly one of the dudes skipping around Canada in the wee bits of the 11th century. But.... the Beowulf in the movie came from Geatland and slew sea serpents - not from Vinland as you say.

Iphegenia is so boring that seriously half my class in a graduate level philosophy course left before the halfway mark. I was one of the last few people smart enough to leave before the sunk costs became too great.

I'll nominate TMNT. It had real potential: a wacky, yet plausible storyline, likable, kickass characters, decent CGI and budget. They let it all go to pieces.

My biggest rant: THE NINJAS NEVER SNEAK UP ON ANYONE. THAT'S THE ENTIRE PURPOSE OF BEING A NINJA.

I never said it was good - it's boring as fuck. Accurate though, and for that I'll give it credit where so many others have failed.

The new Terminator movie is just awful. They could have filmed Bale getting punched by a robot for 2 hours and I would have been happy. The movie is not anywhere as interesting as that would have been. Avoid t all costs. It is so bad I am still angry from seeing it last night.

Oh, goddammit, I just knew they were going to screw this up! I really wanted a good Terminator movie, especially after the abomination that is T3 and with T:TSCC getting cancelled, was it too much to ask? Bloody hell, is it that hard to make a good Terminator film these days? It's killer robots, in the future, fighting a war with humans; doesn't seem to be a really hard thing to pull together. Without James Cameron at the helm, it's a ship without a competent captain, it seems.

I have no hatred of your personage, but if you're going to insist on defending him, I'm going to insist on mocking you for it!

how bout 'In the name of the King: a dungeon seige tale' .. the most ridiculous cast for a fantasy tale, makes a $11 movie with little effort..

other movies i wanted to like more: Daywatch/Nightwatch (effects bonanza with an odd plot), Indiana4 (no use here), the watchmen (awkward, make it a 2-parter or 3)

Ah, Legend of the Five Rings had a lovely ninja theory in their first edition (that they later dropped for ninja R cul stuff * goes into RPG geek mode *;

Ninja's are meant to be seen. There's nothing more suspicious than a masked guy in black pyjama's.
Badly forged straight blades against razor edged katana? Throwing stars against armour? Athletics against bows? Sneaking against nightinggale floorboards? Exactly.

They're the distraction for the guy in the disguise with the poison needle to do his job and get away, and the killed guy is worth more than the all 'ninja's' you lose :p.
Everyone is entitled to his own wrong opinion. - Lizrad

The good thing is the wife and daughter want to see Night at the Museum. They can see it by themselves. :p I hate Ben Stiller!! Will not watch any of his crap!

They wrote a script without any redeeming features, coupled with odd cinimatography, and horrible special effects and makeup.

the movies make more sense if you've read the first book (i.e., Nightwatch)

you can see where they departed from the books,, and in a later book in the series, one of the characters briefly recalls the movie plotline (as a dream)

Nightwatch was decent (except for the uber-tacky intro)
Daywatch got real convoluted, real fast.

but I stil liked it, tbh.
