For some reason i found this more entertaining than the twilight movies.

AiJ, is that an expression of doubt or agreement? :D

She's been reading another series of vampire books recently...about a school or something? House of Night? Luckily they do not inspire the same level of incessant stream of hero worship drivel obsession, but I have no idea if they are any good...hopes are not high though. :popo:
'Tell me, Tool, what dominates your thoughts?'
The Imass shrugged before replying. 'I think of Mafia, Adjunct.'
'Do all Imass think about Mafia?'
'No. Few think at all.'
'Why is that?'
The Imass leaned his head to one side and regarded her. 'Because, Adjunct, they are sheeple.'

Sometimes I wonder, "Why is that frisbee getting bigger?" ... and then it hits me.

Get her to read Fevre Dream, which is quite frankly the best vampire book out there. And it'll pollute her to the ways of George RR Martin, which will set her on the inevitable path to Erikson... Amen.

I will actually, but she has already read A Game of Thrones...but this was before Twilight *spit*, so you can see why my disappointment has turned me bitter...she...she...*gulp*...showed such promise, but the downward spiral seems irrevocable... :popo:  :D

My remaining hope is my son, but his only interest are Japanese comic book thingies...the ones you read backwards (and which I pointed out to the librarian that just because they are comics does NOT mean they should be in the childrens' section...had she even opened the cover to read one, clearly not because if she had....at which point I was ejected from the library...but that isn't relevant, so I don't even know why you brought it up actually....) and books of video games, like the Halo novels....

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES TELL HIM ABOUT THE UPCOMING HALO ANIMU

THEY'LL BE NO HOPE OF AMENDING HIS TASTE AFTER THAT
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

So you have one child who loves Twilight and another who loves Manga.
I'm sorry Bgwan I'm going to have to declare them Heretics and Heathens and have them burned at the stake.

Well at least it's reading...as opposed to being on his X-box 25 hours a day...well, that's not true...I make them both do chores...lots of them...well if they don't do them it means I have to...and that's not about to happen...I mean what's the point of having kids if you can't make use of them...

In case anyone is wondering, I do love them really....especially when they are doing the vacuuming and dusting and washing up and so on....do you know (hahaha) I have friends (yes really) with kids the same age as mine who don't use them to do housew... I mean teach them valuable life lessons. :popo: :D Strange women...

I'm going to disagree with you on the fact that Manga can be qualify as reading.

Wait there's parent's who don't make use of their kids? What kind of hippies do you hang out with?

I know...amazing isn't it? My one friend doesn't even make her daughter put her own clothes away...my daughter has to put everyone's clothes away.

I also know what you are saying about those comic things, but the Halo 'novels' have at least got words and sentences in them.

So does anyone know anything about these House of Night books...are my fears well founded?

I am happy that she is able to laugh about Twilight now...perhaps there is hope after all, because if she really had been sucked in/Twitarded surely there would be a total sense of humour failure?* :popo:

*Does that sound as if a note of desperation has entered my voice? :D

A bit yes, it's not until she condemns Twilight that she will be saved.
As for your son, the Halo books are better than Manga.

I just checked a three reviews of House of Night.

As far as I'm concerned looks like run of the mill YA stuff.
Almost like someone decided to mix Harry Potter and Twilight together (forehead marks, boarding schools, teenagers and vampires).
Seems like it's better than Twilight since the main character isn't a Zombie, but still not something I'd be thrilled to see my kids read, but after twilight I guess it's an improvement.

Having never actually heard of Twilight before reading this thread, damn you all to high hell for bringing it to my attention, and piqueing my interest enough to want to read it to see just how truly bad it is. Luckily I am currently not near home and have no idea where a bookshop or library near where I am is, so I may yet be saved by my short attention span from having to read this supposed drivel.

As I've mentioned to two people in this thread already who didn't know what Twilight was, how the hell have you managed to not know about it? Tell me so that in the future I also can bask in delightful ignorance.

Ummm......discomfort?

On the subject of anime, I saw the new Halo anime. You might be surprised, but I don't think much of it. Looks much too comical for what I'm used to.

For the record, the novels are fairly well written-unbiased perspective here.

You know when somebody says something that makes you completely re-evaluate your opinion of them? The girl who sits by me at work told me today that she is reading Twilight. She said (fortunately cutting me off as I took the breath to make a withering comment), "It's really brilliant, I love it". Oh dear oh dear.

Yes, you can. She wasn't there tp perform certain menial tasks for you, therefore whatever went wrong is her fault. You can tell I've had a lot of practice at this; the Civil Service has a "no blame" culture, which in practice turns out to be more of a "don't blame me" culture...
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Guess being at uni meant I wasn't really around people who were reading that kind of book. Doing Maths probably also helped :p.

Also, I don't have a girlfriend who likes reading such drivel...or any books really (it's the safest way despite her missing out on great fantasy) or a little sister, or live in america where it seems twitards are most...
