FRIGHT NIGHT was actually really, really good. Very entertaining, and David Tennant absolutely steals the show as Peter Vincent. Great fun!

If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Ah, it's been a while, I knew it was something like that. Either way, it's still not apparent in the film unless you already know about it, imo, which was my point. Sorry for not spoilering though, wasn't thinking.
Also, thanks Mez for kind of proving my point. Did you realise that Eli was

As to the joker... apart from a few close ups I'm sure to notice when I next watch it, most scenes were pretty much like this...

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Well, the director's commentary is your friend... And it does help to have read the book.
But the detail itself is pretty secondary - it has no real bearing on the main plot apart from to cast Eli's previous comment in another light

Conan was pretty good. I would say that the new guy is a better 'barbarian' than Arnold was, especially how he isn't all super-roided out.
The story was odd but somewhat nifty. The battle scenes were pretty good but the way those guys blew through the normal soldier was a little laughable. Block stab kill block stab kill block stab kill.
I give it 7 topless wenches out of 10 evil sorceresses.

See, this is the opinion I value.
I read the AV Club review of it, which shat all over the young Conan egg in mouth scene that we loved. The critics often don't get the spirit of violent old fantasy adventure that Conan embodies. It's like they're all super-wussies that only like the modern guns and shoot'em'up/blow'em'ups.
I'm seeing this movie for sure now.

I just watched Eden Lake. Anyone else seen it? It left me feeling a bit sick and I'm too frightened to go to bed. What if disaffected yoofs break into my flat to torment me??

I liked Eden Lake quite a bit. It gets pretty twisted, and also has some neat class warfare subtext underpinning the ugliness.
Re: Conan, I read that review too, and while the AV Club is pretty decent as far as review collectives go (agree or disagree with them individually), that one struck me as particularly tone deaf and predisposed to complaining. The movie looks brutally awesome.

I saw Sucker Punch a while ago and forgot to put my review of it here. Decent movie, but left me unsatisfied. Strangely enough, I think I'm unsatisfied because I never saw the main character dance. That life-altering dance had to be shown to be believed. Everything else was okay to decent.

Saw Conan last night. And even if I was forced to watch it in French (stupid fucking city) it was good fun. I enjoyed it and will rent it to watch it in English as it was meant to.

I had a reaction close to this as well to SP.

Insidious: I liked it. Nicely creepy and has an actual plot. 7.0 Recommended if you like Paranormal Activity, The Others, etc.
Take Me Home Tonight: Didn't really find myself engaged, other than by Dmitri Martin's 2 minute cameo and the guy from Parks and Rec who just cracks me up. 6.0 out of 10.

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Netflixed The Taking of Pelham 123. Yawn. Pointless jerky slo-mo (whatever that effect is called) and other stylistic effects. Utterly predictable story. Denzel, Travolta, and Gandolfini do their best to make it watchable, but even they are largely wasted. I give it 4 hostages out of 19.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Welcome to Tony Scott. As a director he is NOTHING like his brother Ridley. Ridley Scott makes impressive films...Tony Scott makes videos with slow mo and jump cut and garish blown out colours. I haven't liked a Tony Scott movie since Top Gun....meanwhile I like nearly EVERY Ridley Scott film.

I haven't seen all of either of their films, but in all honesty I prefer Tony to Ridley. Alien is a masterpiece, and Gladiator is really good fun, but I didn't much get into Blade Runner though I may have have been in the wrong mood, and I can take or leave all else of his that I've seen. Whereas Tony Scott has made True Romance, Top Gun, Man on Fire and Unstoppable, all of which are top-notch entertainment. Others are fluff, but then Ridley also makes fluff.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Ridley has eight movies I liked. Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down and American Gangster are all excellent movies too.
Tony has a good rep for True Romance. I haven't seen it, but will someday. Man on Fire was okay, but marred by some shitty directorial choices (shots, structure etc.). Spy Games was a bit dry and I didn't enjoy it much. Domino was a wildly uneven movie, but features one of the finest supporting performances in recent memory - from Mo'Nique as Lateesha. Top Gun is a terrible movie that skates by on Cruise's charisma. Days of Thunder too.
Ridley clearly wins this fictional face-off.

I would probably have to say Ridley wins my vote on account that I didn't even know he had a brother until this thread. To be honest.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Fixed.
If you happen to reasonably understand Quebecois French with no subtitles, may i HIGHLY recommend the film STARBUCK. Funny, cute, charming, great plot, great performances, all around satisfying movie. The basic premise is that a 40something man who donated a whole lot of sperm in his 20s finds out he has 500ish biological children who have begun a class action to determine his identity. Hilarity ensues.
It's only a question of time before Hollywood grabs this script up and turns it into something awful, so it's worth seeing the original now.
