Shutter Island was good but also disappointing
SPOILERS.
Sherlock Holmes on the utter hand was great, not really as clever as one could have hoped, but still, very entertaining.
I think would what I really liked about the film was the irreverence. They used the various elements you associated with the Sherlock Holmes stories and age, but made it into something much more fun and flashy. Robert Downey Jr. was pretty much the perfect cast for that role and for once I didn't feel like vomiting at the sight of Jude Law. I'm not sure but this may be the first film I remember liking Jude Law in, in a long long time.
I think it was a good and safe decision to shy away from making it an actual mystery, and only showing the elements, it would have slowed the film down too much.
Can't wait for the sequel.
