2)If you've seen a Herzog film before, like Rescue Dawn or Grizzly Man, you can expect more of the Herzog weirdness. It's my gut feeling that you won't be a huge fan of that weirdness - the lizards and the soul dance kind of stuff - if you're not anticipating it. But I am pretty confident that you know what to expect of movies and how to rate them accordingly. So, go into it expecting moments of true bizarreness and trust Herzog in making the threads come together into a coherent story.

Rescue Dawn and Grizzly man are downright normal next to Herzog's older offerings, like Fitzcarraldo or Cobra Verde or fuckin' Aguirre (most ridiculous serious movie ever made?, I think so)

Baby steps for Mutton Chops, ok? You and me know how profoundly strange Herzog gets, but those immediately unfamiliar with him may recall those two recent, high profile flicks.

Most ridiculous serious movie? I want to say Legends of the Fall, but I admit to not having seen Aguirre.

Ok ok, baby steps, for the baby. Fine. Fine. But really, you should watch Aguirre, but only if you get nice and drunkish before hand.

Losers was a good flick if you wanted to see some shooting and some increadibly easy to follow plots.
Monster Hunter World Iceborne: It's like hunting monsters, but on crack, but the monsters are also on crack.

That made me want to see it now... Why would I not like it?

1) There's no Premier League in it. Or musicals.

Any film I've seen about the Premier League is incredibly boring. And musicals aren't always great, and they are always better live..

I saw Encounters at the End of the World and thought it was marvellous. I quite like a lot of the weird films where you don't really know what is going on etc. I like a very wide range of films, and thought it was interesting you would suggest I wouldn't like it because its weird. Sure I like some of the dumb films with not much plot that are pure sit down and zone out kind of films, but I like the more intelligent and weird ones too. ;)

I think I'm actually going to see Iron Man off your recommendation, Tiste. I don't have high expectations for it, which is why the first one was so pleasantly surprising.

Yup if you do go into it with that attitude, you should have a pleasant time. ;)

What's so odd about Fitzcarraldo? I picked it up on DVD the other day and while it has some oddities it's hardly hugely bizarre there in the 1hour40 or so I've watched so far (should find the time to finish up tomorrow, hopefully). Certainly not as odd as some of what I've heard of Bad Lieutenant (which I'll certainly be seeing). Basically seems like a slightly deformed Terrence Malick film. Does it get way out there at the end or something (don't tell me how if the answer's yes, obviously)?

Its been years since I watched that, so I have no idea where 1h40 is. But I remember it being pretty loony from the get go. Different strokes I guess.

Speaking of Malick though, watched The Thin Red Line this morning, and if that guy wasn't like 80, I'd marry him.

Oh definitely. Delightful movie, but its just not -quite- as good as Thin Red Line. Probably because of all the ugly people.

Both Fitzcarraldo and Aguirre get even stranger, if that were possible, when you hear the stories about what allegedly happened on set whilst they were filming. My favourite: Hertzog brandishing a revolver at the reluctant (and notoriously mental) Klaus Kinski, who wanted to leave the film due to the atrocious conditions on the set of Aguirre, and telling him; "There are six bullets in this gun; five of them are for you and the last one is for me!"

They really don't make film makers like that any more...

If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Well, it's a epically B-movie styled trailer, to be sure. But there's nothing wrong with epic B-movies if they're done properly ;). That looks like it could be a lot of fun...pretty star-studded cast too. Danny Trejo is win.

Sir Thursday
Don't look now, but I think there's something weird attached to the bottom of my posts.

This isn't helpful, buddy. Why is it godawful?

I view it as a rather enjoyable film that was very, very ambitious and should have been trimmed down a little bit (put the prison on Helion) - or expanded even further to make things fall together a bit more.

Really?

I thought apt was alone in his appreciation of the dirge that was chronicles.

Silly silly film, ruined my memories of enjoying pitch black.

Nothing is suitably explained, theres a few massively annoying plot holes to boot.
