Ninja Assassin was so cool. Not a clever story in any way but just some great over the top violence and sweet ninja moves...

@HD - Book of Eli wasn't ridiculously preachy I thought. It was more about mans attempt to twist the Bible in order to gain power. Nothing really too preachy about that, it's what every Atheist has been on about for years anyway...

The dialogue and so forth, yes, Tiste. The message, on the other hand....
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Watched Chaplain last night. Great movie, made me sad. I didn't know much about him.

Saw "public enemies" with depp and bale last night.

Could there be a shitter mobster movie?

For real, that film was terrible. General acting quality was fine, but an actor can only do so much with a script as terrible as that.

Bad cliche's...everybody and their dog has a tommy gun and wears a 3 piece suit 100% of the time...cos that's what gangsters do.

Didn't give a shit about any of the characters at all when they died.

It wasn't really clear to me why anybody even followed depp's character around. He's the most wanted man alive, he's unsupported by the local organized crime, and somehow he still keeps a bank robbing ring going.

The ending was totally stupid...even though they have to base it on reality (it being a real story or something) they could have hammed it up a bit for the sake of good cinema.

Weird musical score that distracted rather than integrated into the movie. Huge overuse of orchestral pieces in minor keys for the sad moments...even though the script wasn't sufficient to cause a shred of sadness in me.

Heartstoppingly long boring dramatic scenes between the action scenes with terrible script in a movie that should have been less QQ and more pew pew.

I haven't disliked a movie this badly in a long time

Which is worse, G.I. Joe or G.I. Jane?
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I agree, Public enemies could have been excellent! It just wasn't...

Saw Gran Torino today. I loved it! I can't quite put my finger on it but Clint Eastwood seemed to really love playing a hard-ass in this film. It just worked. ;)

Still G.I.Joe.

G.I.Jane was an awesome film. It was made on the classic 80s formula for military action films. Any film where Viggo Mortensen tries to Rape Demi More is an okay film in my book.

I cried at the ending.

Exactly why i steer clear of anything that is written, produced and Directed by Michael Mann.
Unless you like that sort of thing...when he does all three, its bound to be terrible...super macho male leading role lead that are way over the top. Too cheesy and cliche for me.
Just look at Miami Vice...

I saw Fanboys yesterday. It was awesome. Pretty much because it was about Star Wars more than anything, and road trip movies are almost always funny (with the notable exception of Wieners - what a shockingly bad film).

I particularly enjoyed the 'Han Solo is a bitch' scene and William Shatner's cameo.

And Public Enemies had the potential to be the best movie of the year, but it turned out to be a turd in the metaphorical cereal. Shame.

@apt

still haven't seen GI joe, but I would say no, I would probably hate public enemies more

cause at least you go into GI joe with the same expectation you would approach a theatre containing....say...alien vs predator.

I watched public enemies expecting to at least care when main characters get killed. I was disappointed

@dk

Oh noes...I'm not up on what my directors do or what they've done in the past. If I'd known that, I would have left that waste of time on the video store shelf.

Well now you know... Mann = A movie that is so macho it ends up looking gay.

Public Enema was a total bag of shit movie, overly stylized and up its own arse. Dreadful script and dreadful direction and editing. It stuttered from one nonsensical scene of muttering and gibbering to the next. Depp and Bale were wasted on this Piece of Shit TM .

On a happier note, finally saw Slumdog Millionaire the other night, what a fantastic film. It puts you through the whole spectrum of emotions and I couldn't recommend it highly enough for those who haven't seen it already

I'm glad others agree on the public enemies movie.

Its almost like he tried to go all Tarantino on it...but it just came out so horribly horribly wrong.

I didn't even care when the

It was one of those films that I was really excited to go and see, but then very very glad I didn't actually waste the money on a ticket for.

Tonight I am going to watch Starship Troopers. It will be as awesome as ever. That is all ;)

I liked Public Enemies, you bunch of heathens. It did have an odd lack of momentum but it was a bloody good film.

Starship Troopers 3 "Marauder" (or something like that) was on 5 the other night. It was nowhere near as good as the first but infinitely better than the second. A crappy budget and CGI severely limited the awesome, but it did have the original Jonny Rico in it ( he is made of cardboard !!!), the chick that plays T'pol in ST Enterprise and some pretty well done Battle Mech scenes at the end. TheTV link / "adverts" for the war, citizenship etc etc, that were well done in the first film were also ok but not as satyrical.

I am going to have to dig up my dvd now and watch the first one again, great film.
