Watched Yes Man - God, how I loathe Jim Carrey. I feel bad for making my parents sit through so many of his movies 9over and over again) when I was a child.

He's actually not that bad in his more serious roles, but I find his comedy style to be terribly annoying anymore.

Role Models - Meh, nothing special. Got some laughs out of a potty-mouthed nine-year-old and picking on LARPing.

Changeling - Couldn't make it through this Angie Jolie period piece. She does some fine acting but the pace was too slow for me.

I still have W., Valkyrie, Miracle at St. Anna, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, Body of Lies, Defiance, and RocknRolla sitting on my PC waiting to be watched....

What's the most promising one....?

Body of Lies was pretty good.
Defiance was good, but pretty predictable.

Didn't see the others, although I heard Rise of the Lycans had no story and was just battle all the time, so it might be enjoyable if you aren't expecting something.
Monster Hunter World Iceborne: It's like hunting monsters, but on crack, but the monsters are also on crack.

double edit - when I look at the similar links on Youtube, I actually like almost all of the Grease 2 songs. I sometimes wonder about my heterosexuality.

I don't even need to watch it to know the lyrics and I can't have seen that film for at least 5 years! It's a problem, I know.

Role Models

Alot funnier than expected, the stiffler is great, Some of the larping was funny, but its got a bit cheesy after a while

Some classic lines

councilor lady - my dad was away alot, so my mother was a hooker, by necessity

councilor lady - I don't want to go into any details, but lets just says I sucked his dick for drugs

ro - you're white, and you're ben afleck
stiffler - well you are white

and the classic comes right at the start

kid - nice costume gay, where'd you get it, at the gay costume store (or something)
pheobes husband - its actually a minotaur ..blabla, and yeah it is a nice costume...
stiffler - I got it from your moms closet, after I fucked her.

I just made a night of watching American Psycho and The Rules of Attraction.

Both great movies in their own rights. I love the satire of American Psycho, so over the top. And Bales voice over work is superb. "There is a moment of sheer panic when I realise that Paul's apartment over looks the park, and is obviously more expensive then mine." He just killed the guy, and that's what runs through his head. It gets me every time.

But I prefer Rules of Attraction simply because of the style. The whole movie oozes it. And its one of James Van Der Beek only good performances. The music is also brilliant. Every scene tailored with a cool background track making the mind tick.

Agreed; I saw this movie a week or two ago on DVD and thought it was pretty damn funny. Part of a movie marathon during which I also saw Halloween, the most fucked up movie I've seen to date, and Choke...which was odd, to say the least. But funny nonetheless.

Watched Street Kings last night. Not a great movie, but not terrible either, just decent. Kinda predictable, but had some decent characters in it and Keanu Reeves actually did some acting.

I liked that movie. Completely predictable ending, but I liked it.

yeah, normally when an ending is too easy to guess it ruins the movie, but not with this one.

Saw it, and no it's not just battle the whole time.
Tries to make things go full circle by showing us the beginning, ends up making it worse.
The fight scenes are to hectic and badly followed to be good, or too short and stupid.
If you have absolutely NO expectations, as I did, it's a below average popcorn movie. Would have been better with a proper fleshing out of the plot and better fight scenes. The only plus I can mention is that the actors looked to be doing a rather good job with what they had, which was very little. Of course I was forced to see it in french because no theatre plays movies in english in this city, so it might be better than it seems.

Finally got around to seeing Gran Torino. I liked it, but not as much as I hoped. Clearly made for an American audience as they hammered home the plot, nothing was left to chance. If Clint hadn't been in it, it would have been rubbish. The whole way through I was thinking it was a bit tired and just going of Clint's past Dirty Harry persona, I thought that was lame. Then the pay off at the end really justified it as clearly they wanted you to think that. Still, supporting cast were pretty rubbish actors which kind of flattened out the drama.

Clint's got to die of throat cancer, right?

E gads, Mezla! No more bad manners advice for you!
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

I'm not blaming the audience! I'm blaming the makers. I'm sure the other European board members will back me up in saying some Hollywood movies are clearly made for American audiences. The same as some British movies don't travel well. Touchy!

I read this in this manner:

1. The movie isn't as good as you hoped. Why?
2. They hammered home the plot, and nothing was left to chance? Why?
3. Because it was clearly made for an American audience.

Why is the third point necessary? Any movie that hammers home the plot and doesn't leave any chance is what seems to be annoying you about the movie. I read it as saying that movies made for an American audience clearly hammers home the plot. Why would they do this? Why would they hammer home the plot and not leave possible questions be indicative of a movie made for an American audience.

These are my two possible answers, either:
1. American movie companies assume that Americans prefer a blunt plot as opposed to subtle.
2. You think that Americans prefer a blunt plot as opposed to a subtle plot.

So, to be fair it is a 50/50 chance that you were just being snobby. However, knowing that your inherent nature is to be polite, I'll believe you.

Can I have examples of other movies that are clearly made for American audiences, I'm curious as to what might make these movies stand out.
