Kalifornia
Seven
Snatch

Troy is not a film, it doesn't exist, we do not speak of this shit.

As for Mr and Mrs Smith... I don't know why, maybe it's the chemistry between Jolee and Pitt, maybe it's the ridiculous action and dialogue, but I really love this film, I think I've seen it ten times...

"A River Runs Through It" is the only Brad Pitt movie I had any respect for him. Mr & Mrs Smith is his usual level of acting -- excrutiatingly bad.

"Legends of the Fall"? That movie is near tear-jerking if you have brothers. One of the most beautifully shot movies.

Oh and yes, "12 Monkeys" man? "Fight Club" The guy is gold!

Just because his last few blockbusters have been a little goofy and what not doesn't make him a bad actor. I mean, he might want to have a little fun making flicks, and Mr and Mrs Smith would have been fun. Clooney and Pitt have al but admitted Ocean's 12 was an excuse to party at Clooney Villa in Italy while be payed.

Assination of Jesse James a good flick, as well.

Can't fault a guy for wanting to make some fun movies most of what he has pumped out have been great drama's.

The only ones I haven't seen (Harsh Times, The New World and The Machinist), I'm adding to my Netflix queue right now.

I'd put Harsh Times at the end of that queue as it is really rather poor. It's so generic, you might as well not bother. The whole film is basically just a vehicle for Bale to do whatever accent it is he has in it (I can't remember, I've repressed those 2 hours of my life).

CF ~ His Dark Materials is worth a read but only in the context that they are childrens books, so don't have too high expectations

Thanks for the gender clarification DW

Starting with Reign of Fire, he's put together a murderer's row of movies. The only ones I haven't seen (Harsh Times, The New World and The Machinist), I'm adding to my Netflix queue right now.

I think there's a difference between Bale and Pitt in that Pitt seems to retain his identity to a much greater degree than Bale does. I realize the Ocean's movies were kind of aimed at making a "Wouldn't it be cool to hang with a slightly stylized George Clooney and Brad Pitt", but other than (weirdly) Spy Games, his movies have pretty much been "Brad Pitt playing somebody". Bale WAS Patrick Bateman.

Bale's interviews on the commentary track for The Prestige seemed to reveal a very smart man (as Pitt is too), so I've high hopes for him in the future.

I'd suggest putting the Machinist at the top...Bale is unbelievable in it, it amazing what the guy does to get into character.

Along the lines of Pitt movies that haven't been mentioned yet, Sleepers and Seven Years in Tibet.

I thought Seven Years in Tibet was a bit of a drag. Hollywood OD'ed on the Tibet/ Dalai Lama sympathy vibe in that flick. I was surprised Richard Gere didn't have a cameo.

Anyway... on Bale, anyone seen this '93 movie called Swing Kids? Flawed movie, but I thought he was very good in it. He plays a teen growing up in Nazi Germany who is made to join the Gestapo and slowly brainwashed in Nazi ideology. He was younger then, but just as good.

So I watched "Juno" last night.

Colour me totally unimpressed. I didn't care for the film at all. It tried way, way, way too hard to be "quirky." It only annoyed the hell out of me. I can't believe it received an Oscar nomination for Best Picture.

"No Country for Old Men" on the other hand, is an amazing film. Very powerful.

No country for old men was the best movie of 2007. No doubt in my mind

To echo what someone said about "The Machinist", Bale did a masterful job in this one. The fact that he nearly starved himself to death to literally become the man he was playing... spooky. It was a very un-nerving film for me.
And so the First denied their Mother,
in their fury, and so were cast out,
doomed children of Mother Dark.

like watching an episode of arrested development. Quirky for the sake of it. Stupid. I hate that show.

@ano

machinist is one of the best movies I've seen in a looong time. Good story with very convincing acting. That role fit bale's kind of stiff distant character style well.

Watched three movies on DVD over the weekend, all picked by the wife... clicky for reviews for two of em:

The first was The Good German, starring George Clooney, Cate Blanchett, and Tobey Maguire... Steven Soderbergh's homage to Casablanca more than anything else. Flawed movie, but worth the time spent if you don't mind a convoluted noir script.

The second was a Sundance darling from last year called Waitress which was a quirky but very grounded/ real dramedy starring Keri Russell. Chick flick, but a well made/ quirky one... I got a bit bored in the pre-climax, but the wife loved it. If you like Gilmore Girls, chances are you'll like this.

For the third, Julie Delpy's "2 Days in Paris" I'm still trying to process what I saw and come up with a review  It was funny, but also unfunny.

Wow. I really liked Juno.

But I agree about No Country for Old Men. Tremendous film. The filming itself in the opening scenes is so amazingly beautiful. It is crazy how there are these huge...open spaces of America with literally nothing in them.

I keep forgetting to go see films, recently. I just watched Black Sheep online earlier - it was kind of disappointing, but oh well - and now I have Sunshine lined up after the thread about it reminded me of it's existence. So that's good too.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I was extremely bored the other night and watched "Rush Hour 3".

That is a perfect example of movie producers trying to gouge 70-100 million more out of the consumer. No reason for it to be made, (It was awful by the way...Chris Tucker just isn't funny) yet they make the movie because of the decent success of the previous two movies. I want a refund and I didn't even pay to see it.

Day of the Dead, the 2008 remake, is going to be released on April 30th in America.

I'm watching it now.

I LOVE the internet!

I watched Shaun of the Dead last night. It wasn't better than I expected but no worse than what I was afraid of (I fear british televison production ever since I saw eastenders)

It was another one of those films where people know shit about Zombies and have no instinct to properly secure all exits and find alternative escape posssibilities.

I was almost crying when they decided to walk past all the pubzombies and let themselves be trapped instead of just killing them. After all, british zombies are apparently even more slow and stupid than american zombies so why not just swing away untill every last one of the bastards were piled in a mountain of dead flesh?
