I just watched Eragon on DVD. Surprisingly I didn't hate it outright. Now, I haven't read the books due to everyone having a hate on for them, and after having viewed the film I understand why. It really is just Star Wars: A New Hope, with some lord of the rings scenes and creatures, placed in a fantasy setting. It's VERY generic. VERY.

That being said, I didn't hate it. I thought that as far as popcorn, park you brain at the door type fare, it amused me a bit.

Malkovich was effing atrocious. I'm sorry, I have never thought that the man could act very well .He always sounds so stilted.

Robby Carlyle was kinda wasted. He's a good actor, but this Durza guy is essentially Wormtongue, let's face facts.

Djimon Hansou is a great actor, but NOT in this roll.

Sienna Guillory was SO nice to look at that I waited for her to be onscreen the most. Drooooooool.

Jeremy Irons & and the kid who played the lead weren't bad at all. Not to mention Rachel Weisz as the voice of Saphira.

The story is plagiarized, and Christopher Paulini ought to be ashamed of himself for his direct and unabashed ripping off of others work.....

...but the movie was kinda fun. Only kinda though.

I understand why it was skewered by the critics and the box-office alike.

The book is actually much better, imo. ymmv of course. Eldest is even better.

Jeremy Irons has been my favorite actor since Brideshead Revisited.

My 7.5 y.o. son and I saw Ratatouille this past weekend. I loved it as much as he did!

I saw Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I think it's the best since the first movie, though the pace was fast at times, and if you haven't read the book, it might be hard to make the jumps. Still, I liked it a lot.

I've read both of the books in the series. I agree with Ch'arlz in that the book is much better then the film. Quite the same in writing and target audience / reader as Harry Potter but still ok.

The film misses out so much its silly. Not just booky type description things that are always hard to relate over film but actual plot and story references. How the Dragon suddenly grew up was preposterous and annoyed the hell out of me. As my other half witnessed as i marched up and down the living room ranting about the sheer laziness of it and how it doesn't match the book. With lots of, " mmmmmm " and " yes dears " coming from her general direction. Whilst i shook my fist and punched the air in general, random directions.

I have to disagree with you Quick on the Voice of Saphira. One minute it was English then a American accent then a mixture of the two. It really, really didn't suit the Dragon / character at all.

Jeremy Ions was a bit wasted but he is always good. I hope if they make " Eldest " they try a little harder on it. Seems to me like it was all a bit of a rush job.
"I think i was a bad person before. Before this time. I do not try to be good now but i am not bad. Perhaps if i try harder i may get a better hand dealt next time? But surely that makes it pointless? Perhaps i am good. Just good at being pointless. But that would make me bad. Bad at having a point. Ah…. I see now. I was nothing before, I am nothing now. I am bad purely because im pointless. "

I thought the whole Eragon movie was atrocious, and there were so many scenes that made me flinch. I mean, when the dragon shoots flames into the air and Eragon's sword shines red.. By god..

And the main character anoyed me so much I wanted him dead from about five minutes into the movie. IT felt good when Jeremy Irons wacked him over the head, but I still feel he got of too easily.

The whole dragon growing up thing was awfull..
I could go on for ages about all the dumb stuff, but alas..

On the other hand, I liked some of the scenes and there were plenty of good actors to make parts quite enjoyable.

And ofc, a dragon not being voice-acted by Sean Connery is no dragon at all

Saw Eragon when it first came out, hated it imensly. I liked the books for what they are, quick reads with lots of running and fighting, not much complexion. But the movie was just atrocious. To many things happening just because. No explaination on things that don't make sense(dragon suddenly being fully grown). Even if I hadn't read the books I would have thought this was terrible movie making.

Also saw Order of the phoenix and hated it. I enjoyed the first few movies in the series, but think the director screwed this one up. I felt, while watching it, that nothing happening was really connected. It was as if the director just crammed scenes together with no connection between them. Not much development of plot to explain why things were happening(Harry just started yelling at Ron and Hermione when no reasoning was behind it is just one of many examples). I think if the director would have decide to make a movie that was about 2.5 hours long instead of a movie that was just under 2 hours, he could have made a more involving movie.

I agree. If you haven't read the books, and I'm sort of thinking they left it up to you to do so before you see the movies, it's pretty confusing near the end. They don't even talk about the curtained arch thingy!!! And of course they left out really cool stuff... but whatevs. They sort of left Tonks out after the beginning...

It really sucks... the new book is out and I really want to get it, but I don't want to drive an hour+ away to get it when I don't even have the first 6 books! So... do I get the 7th book and forget the first 6? Or get all of them? :)

I saw Potter 5 in IMAX 3D. Right as the kids reached the Department of Mysteries, the projector broke. It took them an hour to fix it so we could watch the last 20 mins or so.

Other than the projector fiasco, I was somewhat disappointed in the film. This was the longest book, turned into the shortest movie. Too much cut out, especially at the climax where you really needed it. Still, Mrs. Longhorn is positively dying to see it again, so I'm sure we will.

But great effects, settings (I liked the Ministry), and the girl they got for Luna Lovegood was great. Not the worst Potter film (that will probably always be #2, just because that's the disposable Potter book), just not as good as 3 or 4.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN - why has no one told me of this movie before?!?
Great fun.

THE FOUNTAIN - whatever else i can say, visually stunning film. Worth watching just for the pretty. Stoyr and acting were okay too.

FF4: RISE SOMETHING SOMETHING - oh, whatever.

LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD - was closer to DH3 than DH1. Mildly entertaining is all i can say. Could have waited for the disk. Watch for the next flic... OLD HABITS DIE HARD - over-the-hill Maclane takes on aging terrorists in a retirement home... flic highlight when he beats a thinly veiled Nurse Ratchet lookalike to death with a walker.

AVP2 Trailer. It actually looks not shit at all. I now want to watch it.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

To my abject horror, I learned Mrs. McLovin had never seen "Logan's Run." Thus, we rented the DVD to correct that travesty. I gotta say, I haven't seen that movie in maybe 15-20 years and despite its crappy production values and disco-era sensibilities, it holds up pretty darn well. A sci-fi classic indeed...

HOT FUZZ!!!!

i just saw it a while ago and then again on dvd, which a "obtained". it's hilarious. anybody else seen it? mind you, i think it's made in britain, so it's distribution could be limited. not sure though.
Question:

Does being the only sane person in the world make you insane?

If a tree falls in the woods and a deaf person saw it, does it make a sound?

Sadly, the same was said many times re the first AVP.

- Abyss, wants them to make a damn movie based on the original script (which was based on the original comic), with the samurai lady and the cattle stampede.
