Thought it would be a remake of the samii movie from the 80's (90's?), but this looks more like a cross between Conan the Barbarian and Apocalyptico.

It is. They bought the basic consept, then made an entirely new story on it. I'm not entirely certain why they bought the rights in the first place.
Anyway. It's universally hailed as shit.

Saw Fracture this weekend. Other than the completely predictable ending, it was actually a pretty good courtroom thriller. Anthony Hopkins classes up the picture as usual with his ability to do deadpan humor:
HOPKINS: I have an objection, Your Honor.
JUDGE: On what grounds?
HOPKINS: Well...I don't really know the legal terminology for it...
JUDGE: Just try to describe it in layman's terms.
HOPKINS: All right...well...fucking the victim?
:lachen70:

OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

I'm currently downloading "The Secretary". Everyone should be shocked that I haven't seen it yet. I mean, really. How the hell did I miss this one? So, did anyone see it? What did they think?
A co-worker, pro-dominatrix, former-manager-of-a-local-BDSM-shop was talking to me about it. Sounds like I'm going to enjoy the fact that the director/producer/writer knew what he/she was doing...but that some aspects of the story casts the culture in a poor light.
She also told me about "The Pet" and I just watched the two trailers. Seems like a small-budget film meant to cast a light on the international slave-market, while simultaneously frowning on slave/dom relationships...I could do with the former, more needs to be said about that, but the writer should leave well-enough alone with a consenual surrender of power. Anyone seen "The Pet"?

Saw 28 Weeks later and thought was good despite the annoingly stereotypicl things in horror films.
'Make sure you dont go out there theres a killer rage virus on the go'
Next Scene Kids escaping into killer rage virused place.
Robert Carlisle is good tho

Word. That film solidified in my mind wanting to adopt a child from India, though twins may have permanently derailed that endeavor. I think that film captures just how awful most Indian kids' lives are. Surprisingly, the Indian government recently announced their findings that 2/3 of Indian children were physically abused, and about half of all kids sexually abused (which includes selling girls into prostitution). Very very sad...

That was actually a plan of mine, adopting a girl or two out of India. I know about female infanticide there, but I didn't know that child physical and sexual abuse was so rampant. Damn, that's really really sad.

saw POTC: at worlds end it was great.. wasn;t as good as the first 2 but still great...
i esp love the line: do you think he makes it up as he goes along or does he have it planned out..
that was pure jack sparrow..
the scene where the crabs took the black pearl back to the beach was good as well

thank you smoking, god it was funny...hilarious even...
Question:
Does being the only sane person in the world make you insane?
If a tree falls in the woods and a deaf person saw it, does it make a sound?

Saw 'Shrek 3' over the net. Man that series is losing teh funneh quickly. And there's still 2 more to come FFS.
Also saw Pirates 3 at the cinemas. Mehh, was OK except for Keira Knightley's "inspirational" fighting speech which was completely cringeworthy.

Saw 'Paprika' this past weekend. Visually stunning anime plus a good story makes for one of my new favorites. It's in limited theatrical release in the U.S. Catch it in a theatre if you can!

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer is an hour and a half of my life that I'm not about to get back. Awful doesn't even begin to describe it.
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. My gf went and saw it and said it was brilliant- but she does have rather dodgy taste in films on occasion.
I saw the Illusionist for the first time yesterday and I thought it was brilliant, very clever and well done, like every other Ed Norton film I've ever seen. Great actor.

Oceans 13
Ok if you liked the others.
Knocked Up
Not as good as 40 Year Old Virgin, but had some good moments in it.
