Saw Old Boy last night, what a weird movie!! I loved the fighting with a hammer scene! Man, if I ever had a choice, I'd fight with a hammer too!

Refreshing story and lots of CGI eye candy + Bad Direction = ?
Answer: Immortal (Immortel Ad Infinitum)
Like Casshern and Sky Captain, Immortal uses a lot of CGI and scenes with washed out colors. Like those films it's also visually stunning. It's more bells and whistles than a well told story, but Egyptian Gods, flying cars, and hot blue haired women might make you forget about that.
Immortal also has greater thematic ambitions than Sky Captain and is more successful than Casshern in terms of story depth. It aims to elicit profound thoughts about religion and philosophy. The fact that it doesn't quite there is beside the point.

Huh. Maybe because the movie was about aliens who planned an invasion so brilliantly they buried their weapons here years ago but these same aliens failed to plan for Montezuma's Revenge? That basically, the only reason humans didn't get wiped out is that the aliens got the sh!ts and died? In other words, there was basically no story...
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Yeah, it looked great, but the dialogue was TERRIBLE. That kind of stuff works in a comic, but not in live action. Every two minutes we were getting these internal monolgues... "I stood there watching her coat flapping in the wind like a coat flapping in the wind, and it made me want to kill people."
I mean, that's all fine now and again, but they just went on and on! I like Frank Miller, but I just don't think it worked. Mickey Rourke was great in it, though.
I suppose it wasn't THAT bad. It looked nice.

I'm not even going to watch War of the Worlds. Spielberg has been losing it for a while- AI was tripe, Saving Private Ryan was over-emotional, over-patriotic and over-long and Minority Report lacked panache in a number of departments.
Sin City comes out here next week. Looking forward to it.
Watched Batman Begins some time back. Overall quite good, much better than the two butcherings of Batman in the 90's, but slightly-cliched in places and really annoying fight scenes. Still, much better than what I expected.

Casshern: Dreamworks owns the US distribution rights to this live action science fiction movie that relies heavily on CGI graphics. The story is heavy handed and but for anyone who likes cool visuals it's worth checking out...

the new batman film looks pretty good. plus it has liam neeson in it - he rocks 
mr and mrs smith looks funny but i guarantee that the quality of the film isnt what it will be remembered for

Watched Batman Begins...
I really enjoyed it
That guy that played the Scarecrow was really good (Cillian Murphy or something?).
Overall very good, and close enough to Batman Year One to keep me happy
Oh and Katie Holmes... very fine lady. And I think she's alright as an actress too (when she's not rehashing her Dawson's Crack role).

i enjoyed it, but then i didnt have to pay, and i wewnt in knowing it was a comic book film(literally) all the dialogue is straight of the pages of frank millers comic books. so not bad if you dont listen and just watch

Oldboy = Best Foreign Film of 2003-2004. Very violent and really plays with your head.
Didn't like Sin City because the characters were too cartoonish and it had a monotous plot. There was no build up or suspense. Things just kept happening. It felt like someone was reading a beatnik poem over a bunch of comic book storyboards. And I really, really like violence.
Speaking of violence, there's a few new ultra violent movies in the works. Ninja Scroll is finally getting a sequel. The guy who directed Pi is making a Lone Wolf and Cub movie (I don't know why they need to any more. The originals were perfect.) There's going to be a sequel to Azumi (ninja/samurai movie.) Also, Jet Li has a new movie called Unleashed in which he was trained like an attack dog from early childhood.
Other cool up-coming movies: Initial D (live action movie based on a racing manga), Domino (something to do with bounty hunters), The Black Dahlia (James Ellroy adaptation), Aeon Flux (cartoon adaptation), and A Scanner Darkly (Philip K Dick adaptation directed by Richard Linklater in the same style as The Waking Life.)

It was just typical crap from the makers of south park, "Oooo lets have a guy make a huge puddle of vomit, f*** yeah".
Maybe its just me but I grew out of that kind of humour when I was about 8.

saw mr&mrs Smith yesterday after work, hmmm bit on the rubbish side, but angelina looks good and the action is dumb enough so my brain stopped working. very silly movie that had me laughing at the terribleness of it all, still i would recommend it as a date movie as it avoids the chick flick scenario
