Go see The Last King of Scotland. It is a brilliant story of the scots personal physician to Idi Amin (ugandan dictator and all round nut case). Forest Whittaker did an absolutely incredible turn as Idi Amin at once capturing both the charisma of the man and also his paranoia and insanity. It is an outstandong film definately recommend it to anyone.

I saw it last night. It was a freaking amazing film. I wasn't expecting much but I truly enjoyed it. Except the nipple piercing bit...

I also saw Thank you for Smoking the other day. Again, it was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. I really enjoyed it.

Went and saw Pan's Labyrinth last night. Beautiful, brutal, haunting, fascinating, bloody, brilliant - don't take your kids to see it, it's not a family friendly fairytale, but definitely take the time out to see this one, it's worth it ;)

Peter Jackson will be producing a Halo movie slated for 2008, but seems to be postponed for now.

I saw Rocky Balboa last night. Bloody brilliant. It's pretty similar to Rocky 1 ... but what Rocky movie isn't (let's ignore the fact that Rocky V was ever made). But it is more similar to the first movie than any that came after. Of course, it has the Rocky formula: Rocky's bumbling about, big fight opportunity arises, some people think he should do it, some people think he shouldn't, TRAINING MONTAGE :p, fight, The End. I'll say it again, Bloody Brilliant.

So Mez, seen any new movies recently?

Well, since you mention it, I saw Blood Diamond today!

Fucking traumatised!!

I said to my sister "I don't fancy it, it looks like in-your-face African civil war violence and overly egging the message". She said she heard it wasn't that preachy and was a good explosion's and dodging baddies kind of movie. Was she wrong!! First major film tackling child soldiers, but about the only African conflict issue it didn't tackle was mass rape and HIV. I usually hate Di Caprio, but his performance was probably the highlight. Otherwise, I've had to watch 2 hours of crap tv since to wipe the memories from my mind so that I don't have nightmares.

Not recommended unless you have never thought about African conflicts before. It's about as subtle as Lord Of War. Holes in the plot. Weak characterisation. A lot of blood.

hey, I loved Lord of War..

Just saw Pan's Labyrinth a few days ago and it was brilliant. Beautifull, elegant, mysterious and very brutal in a no pretense kind of way. I also liked how you never really was sure of anything. And the Faun was really cool.. Spanish suited the movie perfectly..

Wait till The Departed comes out on DVD (or download it, if you can't be arsed to wait), to restore your hated of DiCaprio's acting. Possibly the only bad performance in an otherwise excellent film ;)

I quite liked Lord of War too... but there we go.

I like Lord of War too. However, you can't exactly say that the underlying message of the film was woven subtley into the subtext! It was bludgeoned into the viewer with your large-blunt-instrument of choice.;)

Meh. I ignore messages, and giggle at the over-stated violence:)

Boobies?

Man, I haven't seen any really awesome films in theater in ages. It seems like my prime movie theater period is usually May to September.

They kinda come along with it: Once all the senseless violence is over the brainless dolt gets boobies from the brainless and helpless yet finely endowed chick. Classic stuff.

My next big movie outing is most likely going to be 300 when it comes out!

Hot Fuzz is awesome. Not awesome but at base dissapointing, shallow and lacking in any substance, like I expected, but awesome in a proper film way - good storyline, well realised characters, and plenty of explosions:)

Kind of predictable, but thats to be expected - the twists aren't really the point. Loved it.

The departed! .. and to a lesser extent Pan's Labyrinth

...but to quote Bill Hicks: that was how i pitched it to the networks exactly: "I want a show about ridding the world of those that taint our collective unconsciousness and cause harm worse than we can possibly imagine".
They asked: "will there be tities?"
-Sure, I answered, yeah whatever.
Boom, a check falls into my lap. I'm a producer now, I never realised it was that easy.

Just thought I'd ask, has anyone else seen RRRrrrr! ? It's a French Prehistoric Murder Mystery Comedy, and I find it hilarious! Les Robins des Bois are very funny, and I just loved the way the script was filled with silly rituals and outrageous puns. For example (as seen in the English subtitles - I'm not sure what it actually is in French)

Spoiler

OK, so maybe that's not the best advert for all you non-pun appreciators out there, but nevertheless, I thoroughly recommend you give it a shot. 90 minutes of non-stop laughter for me.

Sir Thursday
Don't look now, but I think there's something weird attached to the bottom of my posts.
