Oh man I had hoped... Maybe a Flash movie could be good? But he was always one of my favourites so I'm not sure I'd want to see if it's terrible like the others...

I know I enjoyed MoS and I still generally like BvS, but JL kind of righted my opinion of the franchise into (This could be way better if they veered away from the Zack Snyder-isms). I loved WW.

AQUAMAN looked like it might be the IRON MAN of the DCEU, righting the ship by throwing the right ingredients at a lesser known hero origin tale.

And reviews seem to generally disagree and like it and fell it's the step in the right direction for the franchise.

That said, I DO value Mac's opinion on movies, so this post has made me trepidatious about seeing it. I probably still will in theatres (though BUMBLEBEE comes out the same day and I've heard that it's simply phenomenal, so I kind of want to see that too), but I've tempered my expectations that it might not be all it's cracked up to be.

The issue with FLASH is that I'm FAIRLY certain they are going to use it for Flashpoint, or something similar to reset the timelines, and be able to recast people like Batman...and it will serve Flash as a character ill to be the movie that reboots the franchise.

For what it's worth I didn't hate JL, but I wasn't over the moon about it either. I know the problem with it lay deep in the fact that it's a half Zack Snyder movie and a half Joss Whedon movie and ends up so muddled as a result.

But again, once I see AQUAMAN, I'm going to be probably more circumspect about it due to the fact that even though I've LIKED what DCEU has been so far...I now believe (some of that is definitely hindsight) it could be FAR better.

And I think that one of the things that has made this clear to me is that on the latest DC TV crossover, ELSEWORLDS, Tyler Hoechlin's Clark/Superman (and while we are at it, Elizabeth Tulloch's Lois Lane was similarly amazing) absolutely blew me away as the character. He 100% sells the thing that made Christopher Reeves so good as both Superman and Clark. I'm tempted to say he's literally THE best Superman incarnation I've EVER seen in live media. To me he has something the Cavill version of the character is missing.

I like it. I'm not totally sold on Harbour's Red yet, but I feel like that has more to do with the hair hanging down and not up and/or slicked back as the comics always has it...and the lack of Abe Sapien (who won't be in this film) is definitely felt, but it's nice to see Daimio and Alice there.

I like that the London BPRD offices are disguised as a shop.

Best bit was definitely the cops shooting at him and him yelling that he was on their side.

Anyway it actually looks really good. Going by the scenes it seems like they mushed Hellboy 1 and 2 together and added more humor. The various monsters look excellent.

Not sure about Hellboy himself. It's of course hard to beat Ron Pearlmans version but his voice is a bit lighter than I imagine it should be and he almost looks too demonic, which I know is a crazy thing to say. But he actually looks down right satanic, where Hellpearl had a more sapien appearance.

If it helps, if they follow the Nimue story as it is in the comics...that was not the ending. I think this is essentially "The Great Hunt" storyline from the comics. In which case, that scene is smack dab in the middle.

And I just heard that Abe and Rasputin both CAMEO in this one...which is nice.
