So it's nearly October and one of our yearly traditions is to watch a "scary" film around Halloween. Wondering what to watch this year?

Basically neither of us particularly like horror but we do it for a bit of fun so it's never anything too disturbing (e.g. Saw) or Satanic...

So far we've watched the following: The Purge; Get Out; Woman in Black; The Crazies... That kind of thing. As you can see nothing massively terrifying or brutal but enough to get the heart racing.

All suggestions welcome.

Still looking for a scary movie to watch for Halloween? Well, may I suggest the 'flew under the radar' movie when it was released (but still good) titled: Breakdown.

tagline: "A man searches for his missing wife after his car breaks down in the middle of the desert."

From 1997, and staring Kurt Russel and J.T. Walsh. Russel hits it out of the park and J.T. Walsh is creepy AF. Definitely recommend it for Halloween spookiness.

Never heard of that. I dunno what we'll watch, we've just watched Stranger Things and that was pretty intense anyway.

Also liking the look of The Bone Collector which is more of a tense thriller than horror so might watch that.

I watched [REC]3 and wth?? The first two are so good and genuinely scary, and the third is a braindead screwball comedy all of a sudden? I guess it wanted to be Evil Dead -- and I love Evil Dead -- but it was a boring stupid mess instead. Unbelievable.

I watched Whiplash. I very much enjoyed it. I liked how neither of the main characters were particularly likeable. And I've been thinking about the ending all day.

I finally got around to seeing Solo.

I enjoyed it. But. He may he called Han Solo. He may wear the same clothes has Han Solo. He may hang out with a Wookie and is arguably the best pilot in the Galaxy. And he shoots first. But he ain't Han Solo.

So I saw Atomic Blonde finally and I'm not sure what I was expecting but I don't think that was it. Not saying it was bad by any stretch, it was very enjoyable but the final twist

Spoiler

Seemed a bit extraneous? I dunno.

Anyway, excellent action sequences and tense thrilling scenes of not knowing who to trust etc made it a pretty good film all together. Not a patch on John Wick though IMO.

7 slightly unnecessary boobies out of 10.

I watched Bohemian Rhapsody last night, and I really liked it. I guess it helps being a big fan of the music, which is the main focus of the movie in my opinion. It's a feel good film, which is a little surprising considering the actual life of Freddie Mercury, but to be honest that was a pleasant and welcome change from the typical music biopic. Watch it if you want a charming and warm depiction of the greatest front singer of all time. If you want a story about the issues of homosexuality and aids in the entertainment industry, or in the west as a whole during that time, this is not at all the movie you want.

I figured they would avoid making it the tragedy it should be.

Seeing those trailers for Bohemian Rhapsody, I thought they went way over the top with his teeth. Maybe they fixed it in the edit room before the movie was released?

I watched Slice, that horror-comedy about the pizza boys getting murdered. The trailer showed a lot of Steve from Stranger Things and gave off an overall very ST vibe. But he's a minor character and the movie is much more like a Rated R live action Gravity Falls episode. Didn't looove it but I liked it. It's funny, got an offbeat sense of everything (not just humor), and best of all: it's only 80 minutes! It's on Amazon Prime if you're interested.

This makes me more inclined to see it. I guess Freddie Mercury shouldn't be defined by what he died of. I read a review that said you could tell it was produced by the remaining members of Queen because it was so much about their glory days. It read like a criticism which I agreed with initially because the only member of Queen I'm really interested in is Freddie Mercury. As they were his friends then why would they make a film with a big focus on his death or what he did in the bedroom? And if he had died from something else there wouldn't be the obsession with wanting to see more details. However I think I'd rather see a Freddie Mercury biopic with plenty of tunes in it than anything with more Brian May. I'm hugely prejudiced against Brian May. I think it's because of the decisions he has made regarding his hair betray him as a man without taste :(

Watched TEEN TITANS GO TO THE MOVIES finally.

It was...decent. Not as funny as I wanted it to be. Topical and accurate on the DC universe including the existing DCEU movie universe to a level that makes me wonder how it could have gone so wrong if they are all so aware of why it's been failing so far...hopefully the sane heads who made TTGTTM are present going fwd with the DC movies.

I don't have much more to say. I was entertained for 1.5hrs, which is about all I can expect of this type of film.

I LURVE that movie. Music, cast, script, ect.

Glad Waititi changed the book ending, which is super bleak.

Watched two film last night. Unusual for me, but I wasnt really fit to do much else.

Outlaw/King

First thing off, Pine does a surprisingly good job on a Scottish accent.
This is about as historically accurate as Brave heart.
As a film I don't think it's as good as Braveheart, due to some pacing issues and the battle scenes don't flow as well(for me) the romanctic part of it felt very forced of itself. But that said, overall it was a solid enough and enjoyable medieval war flick.

War Machine

I wasn't really sure what this was going in, I'm not really sure what it was coming out. I guess it's a satire of the general who got the chop out of Iraq for criticizing Obama and Boden? And it is funny in places (especially the very very last beat) but it was very imbalanced for me and was a bit of a slot to get through

I thought Braveheart was universally despised here at Malazan Empire. So by deduction, that means Outlaw King is pretty crappy?

Also, how magnificent was Captain Kirk's penis?
