So I gotta agree with all those who posted before me. GOTG2 was fucking fantastic! Even better than the first one, and I had a rollicking great time with it.

And if you'd have told me, before I saw it, that I would weep for Yondu I'd have laughed...but yeah, that was friggin emotional. I mean I could tell when Ego didn't seem on the up and up that the goal was "Ego is your birth father but he's a universe dominating dick"...and Yondu was your actual "dad" dad in terms of raising you about half way through....but yeah, they really made the emotional impact worth it I felt.

So that bumps the original GOTG to #2 spot and GOTG2 is now my fave of all the MCU.

Cannot WAIT to see it again.

I actually think it's partially there in GOTG1...he does seem to have soft spot for Peter in that film..enough that he doesn't want to see him dead.

And when Rocket realizes that Yondu is going to sacrifice himself to save Peter....salutes him and says "He said 'Welcome to the frikkin' Guardians of the Galaxy. Only he didn't say frikkin' " I admit to shedding a tear....and then the Ravager funeral did me right in.

I also love the development between Nebula and Gamora here...the whole realization that the source of all their trouble in their lives was always Thanos and never each other. The hug was poignant.

I can't imagine that with Thanos as the big bad in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR that Nebula will BE the one who gets to kill Thanos...but I can FULLY see her being the kind of little lynch pin to the affair....so she can stick her middle finger up at Thanos that she helped the team get the upper hand on him (however that occurs).

I've seen it again since my first post, and damn it actually gets better tbh. I still think it has some issues with plotting, but they really don't detract from the experience. Top 2 MCU movies for sure, the other being... GotG 1. Not sure which order I would put them in, if only because the original had the much harder job of introducing the main cast as well and did it fantastically providing the sequel with such a strong base.

I think in my first posts I described the Yondu stuff as slightly forced, I realise that forced is utterly the wrong word. The beginnings are definitely there in the first movie as you say, in point of fact that is the entire reason for Taserface's (just wanted to type that name lol) rebellion. I do think it was maybe in places a little too blatant and perhaps ever so slightly saccharin, but damn if it didn't hit me in the feels anyhow. Rooker was great as well, plus that whistle. Oh and I mentioned before I think, but the Mary Poppin's gag was hilarious.

The Nebula/Gamora stuff was great as well I agree, really well done. I'm imagining she will play some fairly large role in Thanos' eventual defeat, perhaps not THE finisher, but certainly heavily involved, considering the comic book history and how they're playing it with this film. That being said I'm still saying that the final blow - assuming there is such a thing - will be Cap with Thor's Hammer!

And you know what, through all of this, I am still mightily surprised and happy for him at just how damn good Dave Bautista is as Drax

Watched a bunch of films yesterday.

The Void. It's a B-movie take on a small rural hospital coming under attack by some kind of Lovecraftian cultists. The acting and writing is bad but how many films have you actually ever seen that tries to pull off a straight up Eldritch horrors from beyond the stars kind of story? I normally hate horror films but the premise made me sit through the whole thing. It was sort of a mix between Hellraiser and attack on precinct 13. Not great but I loved the ending. I wonder if they make a sequel?

Split. I was sort of worried whether or not this would be another Shamalama let down, but M. Night pulled it off perfectly. Not really sure how I feel about how the film treats mental illness but as a premise the film is pretty fun. James MxAvoy looked like he had a ton of fun with the characters. He managed to make them feel different with little more than a change in his stance or the tone of his voice. Can't wait to see the cross over.

Gods of Egypt. Not as terrible as I had been led to believe but certainly not a great film. As I watched it, I started to wonder if this was based on something. It feels like a movie adaption of a video game or a comic book. It has a ton of world building and strange details and yet it moves at such a pace that there's never any time to appreciate anything. Despite its flaws I couldn't help loving the mythological details like Ra flying around in a fortress in space fighting Apothis in the form of a gigantic cloud snake. It was just cool!

I lovelovelove Venom and enjoyed Zombieland. It sure deserves it's own movie - unlike the Spider-flick We Do Not Name *spit*.
