Not getting the love for the World War Z film in here.

personally found it dull as hell.

Insert obvious "World War Z? You mean World War Zzzzzzzzzz amirite guiz?" style pun.

Just saw Pacific Rim.

Loved it, exactly what I always wanted. A kick ass live action Giant Mecha movie.
meh. Link was dead :(

Pretty great article on Neill Blomkamp -- Elysium included but not the sole focus. http://www.wired.com...omkamp-elysium/

Lots of movies over the past few days:

RED - mildly enjoyable.

DREDD - honestly, I found it pretty boring.

IRON SKY - funny, but not quite funny enough. Though they nailed what a Sarah Palin presidency would have been like. I appreciated the subversive tone.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Saw RED 2. Better than the original, IMO.

Despicable Me 2 is terrific. Great fun to watch with kids and still very solid fare for adults. They don't neuter Groo or make the other characters absolute munging idiots either.

Loved Despicable me 2. Thought it was brilliant and heartwarming.

Just watched The Worlds End. Utterly disappointed didnt laugh once. I really enjoyed SOTD and Hot Fuzz and the cast was really good but the plot and humour was terrible. Wasnt expecting loads simply an enjoyable watch but it was terrible.

I went to go see Pacific Rim, but I got there too late so I watched The Conjuring instead. Pretty solid stuff, I'd give it a B. In some ways it's very by-the-book haunted house stuff, but what it occasionally lacks in originality it makes up for with capability and follow-through. Every performance is solid, there are actually quite a few original scares with virtually no cheap shots (there are jump-scares, but they're earned, and the cats-jumping-out-at-people count is a cool ZERO), and none of the characters are annoying (which is always a blessing in horror movies). So yah...you know how for some Olympic scores, maximum points differ by routine potential? This would be one of those movies that doesn't have the maximum potential, but almost nails a lower risk routine.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

SUPERMAN is coming back with Batman as a caped co-star.

Man of Steel director Zack Snyder announced at San Diego's Comic-Con that he was making another Superman film and that it will include Batman - the first time the two superheroes will be united on the big screen.

He declined to reveal many details, saying the script is just being written. He then invited an actor onstage to read a passage to hint at the storyline.

"I am the man who beat you," read Harry Lennix, before an image of the Superman logo, backed by the Batman symbol, flashed on the screen.

Warner Bros. then confirmed the first-ever pairing in a statement.

Snyder reimagined Superman in his June blockbuster Man Of Steel, starring Henry Cavill and Amy Adams, which has grossed more than $US630 million ($A689.66 million) worldwide.

I've heard the opposite actually. A few ppl I know who saw it says it suffers from HEAVY sequel-itis....but I can't comment myself as I've not seen it.

Vision. The rumour is that Vin Diesel was cast as him, but they aren't allowed to reveal him yet.

A. that line of dialogue is directly out of Frank Miller's THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS.

B. This is a VERY solid way to go forward towards the ensemble movie. Though I'd be lying if I didn't say I thought WONDER WOMAN should arguably be next. So what they announced other than this (and showing the DARK KNIGHT logo superimposed with the MAN OF STEEL logo on screen) was that 2015 was going to see a FLASH movie (super cool, and apparently Goyer had already been working at a script)...and that we can then look fwd to a JUSTICE LEAGUE film in 2017. A solid way forward, with the only mis-step so far being that they REALLY should be doing WW instead of FLASH since it would be nice for them to complete the "trinity" before doing JL....especially because THAT is the way to one-up Marvel since the only female Superhero they have is BLACK WIDOW currently, and they gave her less than nothing to do...so DC could trump them by investing heavily in Diana...I'll wait and see as I still think it will happen.

So when do we get Sandman made as five movies?

(Escape/table setting/Death, Reconstruction of the Dreamland/ rest of family intro, Descent to Hell and Brief Lives, Loki's escape and Kindly Ones, Book of Daniel)

The lesson you need to take from Frank Miller's comic books is that he's kind of the upscale version of Rob Liefeld - he's very firmly within a wheelhouse, kind of a nutjob and sells a lot of books with pizzazzy writing combined with a gift for slick visuals.

I say this having read Sin City, Dark Knight, Daredevil/Electra, 300 and Ronin. They're junk food comics and the visuals have let him get away with sounding "noir" or "deep".

Which is kind of why the movies based on his works tend to be better than the source materials. They get to add stuff on, instead of taking stuff away as per most literary adaptations.

The other thing is that he's one of those people who went completely bugfuck nutty after 9/11. Also, whores.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I've been watching the earlier Harry Potter movies lately with my gf, who for some reason has never seen them. As someone training to be a teacher all I could take away from these viewings is that Hogwarts is a terrible school.

You dont think sending unschooled magical children with a former expelled student into something charmingly called the forbidden forest is good schooling?

I tell you its political correctness gone mad!

DKR is epic, but it's rooted in heavy Reagan-era imagery, a politically servile Superman, and an old old Bruce Wayne.
Plus the entire thing is Gotham-bound and the main baddie is the Joker (and nuclear war).

Whatever form this takes is not going to resemble the source material at all.

Again, the source material, tho brilliant, is rooted in lterary devices that will not translate to film, much less big budget Hollywood blockbuster fare. Read the entire SANDMAN run... Dream never throws a punch. hell, he's not even in almost half the issues. Whatever form it takes, it won't be Gaiman's comic made screen.

I dunno, 300 and SIN CITY were more or less shot for shot remaks of the source material and they worked admirably, likely because Miller's storytelling is so much more simplistic than DKR or SANDMAN.
