Planning to go see MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS this weekend with a group. Can't wait!

Also think the wife and I are going to go see CLOUD ATLAS this weekend. Surprised there aren't more comments here about it.

Saw MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS was fun. It could have been more fun, though.

Skipped CLOUD ATLAS, saw FLIGHT instead. A surprisingly good movie, Denzel is awesome portraying a guy who is simultaneously a hero and an arrogant prick walking the edge of some really bad decisions. The end is pure Hollywood corn, I think they missed an opportunity to put some real punch into it, but oh well. James Badge Dale and John Goodman steal their respective scenes. Worth seeing in the theater just to hear the audience's reactions to certain parts.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Saw Wreck-It Ralph. Pays some nice homage to the golden era of arcade games, but over all the movie was meh. I was underwhelmed. #sadface.

Watched Indie Game: The Movie, a documentary focusing on the developers of Braid, Super Meat Boy, and Fez at various points in their development -- and while it does take a sentimental look at video games in general, it's mostly a very personal look at these three sets of people. I'm only vaguely familiar with the latter two games, so there was plenty of real tension throughout for me (much in the same way King of Kong built tension). It's on Netflix Instant.

Watched Beasts of the Southern Wild. Fantastic film - an unapologetic modern Bayou-fairytale in equal parts sad and joyful and all awesome. Deserves a watch by anyone.

Yah, that's a total must-see for me, but I'll have to wait for DVD.

Not sure if this is a repost but here's the teaser poster for Vincent (Splice) Natali's film version of the iconic Cyberpunk novel Neuromancer

I really don't like it. It seems too... obvious. The iconic image of the Nikon-Zeiss implant eyes would have been perfect in my estimation, but I guess that might have run into copyright troubles.
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Yeah, I agree.

and it seemingly cribs directly from Ridley Scott's DAVID promo for PROMETHEUS (where he shows a closeup of his thumb with the Weyland logo on it indicating he's artificial).

Natali has skill with indie work, I'll give him that...though SPLICE began well, it ended in a convoluted mess that was simply attempting to shock. I have hopes he'll do this right, but part of me thinks he was the wrong choice for director. I'll defo wait and see tho.

Coincidentally, his best work ever isn't even CUBE...it's the 5 minute vampire piece he did for PARIS JE T'AIME a few years back which starred Elijah Wood. It was whimsically wonderful and spooky at the same time. It showcased his strength as a director and none of the trademark sci-fi stuff. See it if you can. It's a great film anyways with only one or two of the 5 minute pieces being so-so...most of it is win.

Gah... i'm SO on the fence about NEUROMANCER being made into a film. It's a great great book, full blown timeless classic imnsho, but i'm utterly sceptical about how it can translate to screen, tho in part that's due to JOHNNY MNEMONIC flashbacks.

Me too tbh. It has the thriller/adventure elements, which might make for an exciting, if rather seen-that-before, movie. But what made it so important is more due to timing. Younger folks probably have absolutely zero idea of how revolutionary Cyberpunk was back in the day. Especially now that Cyberpunk's iconography is embedded to thoroughly in mainstream culture.

Okay, I realize this is based on a Stephenie Meyer book...but I REALLY like Andrew Nichol's films, so I actually might see this...and Saiorse Ronan actually sells me even further as I think she's an amazing actor.

I saw Seven Psychopaths yesterday and it's a cracking film. Perfect for any fans of Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang and the like.

So this probably belongs here...last night we did our yearly re-watch of LOVE ACTUALLY (one of my all time faves)...but we were house sitting for Mrs. QT's parents, and thus we did not have access to my BluRay of the film, and so we popped in the DVD instead.

And holy crap 6 months of watching BluRay has TOTALLY spoiled me. The DVD quality was grainy garbagio...like REALLY, noticeably bad...and I had that moment where I wondered how on earth I watched things on DVD...

Remember the difference between VHS and DVD?...yeah, this is the same, only amped up to ten on the clarity scale.

Crazy, never thought I'd think that.

re-watched my DVD copy of A CHRISTMAS CAROL...the mo-capped, animated 2009 one with Jim Carrey done by Robert Zemeckis and co. and it still REALLY holds up. Easily one of my new fave re-telling's of the classic Dickens tale, if only because they pay such close attention to the source material and don't skimp on the rougher, scarier things a lot of the adaptations shy away from. The performances are great, Carrey as Scrooge (but also almost unrecognizable as the ghosts of Past, present and Future), Firth as his nephew, and Oldman as both Marley and Bob Cratchit. Also the animation allowing for the capturing of a decidedly magical, yet gritty (pimples and all) Victorian-era London really makes the adaptation excel.

Love it.

That's #2 in my Christmas time movie and TV watch. (#1 was LOVE ACTUALLY)....next up, either ELF or a double holiday special feature of A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS and A GARFIELD CHRISTMAS.

This past weekend caught up on some films we missed.

LOOPER - trying not to think too hard on this one bcs I'm pretty sure the whole movie actually makes no sense, but the performances were great and it wasn't exactly what I expected.

THE BOURNE LEGACY - should be called THE BORING LEGACY. I liked how they tried to interweave it with THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM, but just not a compelling film.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

I agree. The problem with The Boring Legacy is that the whole movie should not exist. It adds absolutely nothing and there main dude also accomplished absolutely nothing. Plus the action wasn't even that good. What a waste of time that was.
No Touchy.

Is A Garfield Christmas the one where they go to Jon's family farm?
