Looks fantastic!

I am so stupidly excited for this that i had to watch the '100-mile Dash' sequence six more times.

EDIT: ...okay, call it an even ten more times...

These flicks are effectively PERFECT Fantastic Four films.

Watched The Legend of Tarzan. Not much to say except what a stinker of a movie. The movie is disjointed and hops around all over the place. And woof, the CGI is pretty bad. And I like Christoph Waltz and have enjoyed most of what I've seen him in, but is it just me or does he have a very narrow range when it comes to acting. I mean, I dunno, it just seems that his characters are all the same person.

Anyway, I give The Legend of Tarzan 2 1/2 awkward Samuel L. Jackson piggy-back rides out of 5.

I agree about Waltz but I think the fault may be one of directorship. They want him to play that character maybe?

I can see that, sure. Maybe he's fallen into the "character actor" mode? I just thought he was able to do more as an actor. He seems really talented to me, but maybe that is just eccentricities that pigeon hole him as a character actor? Dunno really. I still like him for the most part. Maybe I should just enjoy what he brings to the table for each project he participates in?

People make the comment quite frequently, but other than the basic 'superhero family' point, the FF are four adults who go on science adventures, The Incredibles are two parents working at keeping their family solid and two (three) kids just figuring things out. Sure Franklin and Alicia add the kid element to the FF, but for the most part they're a subplot, not the main drive, Hickman run aside. Jettison Johnny and Ben, then maybe the analogy would fit better, but then it wouldn't be the FF.

Now that said, i think THE INCREDIBLES is effectively a PERFECT film.

So Sylvester Stallone has been teasing a Creed 2 angle, and posted the following to social media (Instagram I believe).

I wonder how that's going to work? Maybe after Rocky IV, Drago was put into cryogenic stasis and is thawed out and revived all these years later to fight? I dunno really, but will be interesting to see what the final cut looks like. You know one thing is for sure though, the line "I must break you" will be spoken.

Ah ha! It's becoming clearer now. Posted Image

I just saw Lady Bird. Soooo good. Possibly the very definition of a chick flick. The screen had only women in it which has never happened before! It's just brilliant, captures the mother daughter thing to perfection.

Saw The Shape of Water last week too. I thought that as I love del Toro movies then a critically acclaimed one must be brilliant but it was just good. More interesting than your average movie fare these days but kind of monster-of-the-week del Toro for me. And I got stressed out by seeing Sally Hawkins very very naked and with terrible flood damage to her home which kinda put me off :(

Watched Waiiti's THE HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE, and thought it was excellent throughout. Just a really poignant, well acted, scripted, shot and scored flick. The humour was subtle and hilarious. Julian Dennison should have won an award for his role.

EDIT: Oh, and Taika's bit role was suitably hilarious ("there's another door")....as was Rhys Darby's (who I always love) Psycho Sam.

And Moniker's score was majestical...here is my fave track:

Yes QT I knew you'd love it! I mentioned his cameo when we spoke about this a while back it's one of my favourite bits. "Is it Jesus?" "No. You'd think it would be Jesus but it's not..." Had me in stitches!

So glad you liked it. :(

Edit: and yes I've not seen Rhys Darby in anything and not loved his character.

You inspired me to finally watch this. I've been meaning to, but my sister moved to Sacramento a year ago and wouldn't stop raving about the movie, so I didn't want to give her the satisfaction. But yeah, it's excellent. Also, without spoiling anything, this one ends at exactly the right spot. We all know indie directors can get a bit cutesy with their sudden cuts to black at the end -- I'm sure QT has a rant about this swirling in his brain somewhere, if he hasn't written about it already -- but Lady Bird doesn't mess around. I 100% wouldn't have minded spending more time with these characters though.

Other movies I've watched recently:
Thor Ragnarok: Definitely the best Thor -- by far -- and easily top ten MCU. I'm sure the thread covered it, but it's fast-paced, exciting, funny, and charming...and feels more akin to the Guardians movies than the previous Thors.

The Slums of Beverly Hills: not a new movie, but first time I've seen it believe it or not. Hilarious, and everyone in it is a treasure, so it's remarkable how bright Natasha Lyonne shines even in a cast this good.

The Florida Project: this is the 2017 holdover movie I wanted to see most, and it couldn't have been better. Everyone in it is stellar, and everything about it feels real. A+, 10 out of 10, etc. I'm gonna be thinking about this one forever.

Looks like I've had no duds recently!

Oi!

I happen to like movies that end on sudden smash cuts to black!

USUAL SUSPECTS ending was great for that. So is INCEPTION.

Ha, I meant twee-er indie movies that end on seeming non-sequiturs, not those big punctuation cuts.

Watched LADY BIRD too, and though it was really damned good! A fairly good approximation of the mother daughter relationship, and everyone in it was great.

And I thought the smash cut to black was perfectly placed as well.

I quite enjoyed Red Sparrow. It's in many ways a classic spy thriller with plans within plans and agendas hidden within agendas.

Uh, "90 Scars"?! This is unfortunate and seems like a bad choice. Is it making some subliminal commentary about how much the entertainment business is reliant on plastic surgery or something? Or is it saying something about the #MeToo movement? I dunno. I'm confused by it.
