Hunt for the Wilderpeople is an utter delight and so funny (Taika has a cameo in that too and it has me roaring with laughter!)

Sweet!

Also, Kathleen Kennedy just commented that she thinks that Taika has the right sensibilities to make a Star Wars movie! Woot! make it happen.

If I were Taika, I wouldn't do the Star Wars movie. Too restricted and the possibility of a dimmed star or missed opportunities to do something else more original are too high.

I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

I think IF (and that's a big IF considering the micromanaging that's gone on with Star wars since the Disney buyout) they let him do his own thing and didn't meddle in the movie...it could be amazing. And the proof should be that Disney let him do his own thing with RAGNAROK...and he turned out Marvel universe gold.

But you're probably right, they'd micromanage him and probably fire him.

It's just I think a Taika Star Wars movie would be AMAZING.

So I can't actually believe this movie finally got made...it's been talked about since I was a teenager!

That's not to say it looks good mind you...but it's interesting to see a film come to fruition more than 20 years after being discussed for the first time.

Now I have to go digging in the DVD collection in the basement...damn it.

If he did do a SW-verse film I'd prefer a side project like Han Solo (unfortunately that's a no), or maybe Lando Calrissian. A Boba Fett movie would test his ability to mix serious and fun - more than Wilderpeople anyway - but I'd like to see him try.

Perhaps a Rogue Squadron film - where later Rebels take up the Rogue One standard - could be a good ensemble fit for him. Action, pathos and a bit of levity.

If Watiti made a SW film, it'd surely have to be one that's not involving a major character that the producers are invested in getting right, given that he made Thor via the same method that they fired the two dudes off Han Solo for- ie, improvising most of it.
In any case I feel he'd be a terrible fit for Fett, because, if they have to make that film, it should be something like a horror, or at least a proper proper thriller.

Went to see Coco. One of Pixar's very best. A real emotional wringer though. Like the prologue of Up, but multiple times throughout.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Newest trailer dropped today. I'm guardedly optimistic about this.

Behold!

So guys. This is a huge spoiler for GOT. It reveals that Sansa Stark has been an arch-priestess of R'hllor all along. And that her powers are going to reach their apex and she will be part of the vanguard that battles the White Walkers. She will go all "Human Torch" on them and destroy them in a conflagration of her design!

Read that a Peter Jackson film - Mortal Engines - will be airing a trailer before The Last Jedi. Make sure you guys are there early so you can come back and let us know if it looks any good or not.

Without knowing anything else about the story/series(?) this looks cool but confused. What does the film want to be? Ghost in the Shell? A.I.? Chappy? Johnny 5 is a girl? The start of the trailer makes it sound like the girl is just a futuristic pinochio but then it gets into cyborg fist fights.

If nothing else it could be a cool action film.

I've never read anything with the Miles Morales Spider-man but I'm not a big fan of the concept of the character. I guess he sort of works as the Spider-boy to the grown up Spider-Man. But I'm old enough to prefer my teenage Peter Parker.

Watching a lot of these new Marvel Character's feels like watching your childhood slip away. I don't want my memory of the Marvel Universe to change dramatically.

Looks cool. Having already read the book I'm for once not worried about spoilers.

Considering the scope of the book, even though the story is compact, I am actually sitting and wondering whether they should have done the patented movie trilogy on less material. The Oasis is overwhelming enough in concept, and the nostalgia stuff is deep enough, that they could have split the film into the three acts structure of the book.

Can't wait to see the Gundam's and MechaZilla's.

I'm deeply put off by this. Sansa-actor is almost as annoying as her book counter-part. A film featuring her as a main character sounds horrific. Dark Phoenix is Cindy Crawford on steroids not a teenager having a temper tantrum.

Much like X-Men 3 they have also, once again, not taken the time to develop the story arc that lead to the Dark Phoenix events in the comics. Just like the rushed Apocalypse story, this will fail because they have not earned it. They haven't built the foundation and they don't have the writing chops to pull a rabbit out of the hat.

Watched Atomic Blonde earlier. Really liked it.

Not a particularly clever or innovative modern take on the cold war spy era but as an action film, this story kicks a ton of ass. People talk a lot about John Wick being the hottest new action property but I feel like Charlize Theron out does Keanu Reeves in this. She takes a hell of beating and looks like a bad ass the whole way through. She gets fucked up to the point you're wondering how she's even able to walk and then she kicks some more ass. Like, her eyes are red from the blood contusions for half the film.

And yet she still looks like a million dollars.

James MacAvoy is great as well. He manages to constantly pick these roles where his character's are slightly strange. I'm not sure if he's playing to his strengths or just hiding his weakness.

Really though, have any of the X-Men films been good? Not so much, imo. There was the one (I forget the name) that was pretty good. Some of the others were just okay. And Apocalypse was out right terrible. I'm talking one of the worst movies I've seen terrible (so glad I didn't waste money on it in theaters). And I believe the same crew is doing this Dark Phoenix movie. So yeah, expect a huge pile of shit.

The original X-men trilogy is a dark chapter we don't speak about but First Class and Days of Future Past were both solid films. Which made Apocalypse the more disappointing since it seemed like they'd found a formula.

Hey now, the first X-Men movie was pretty darn good for its time, and X2 was a big step up from that. I would argue that First Class is easily the best of the bunch, and DoFP was pretty solid.

May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"
