Watched The Chronicles of Riddick for the first time (2004 movie). Not that bad actually.

Also watched Warm Bodies. A sweet and enduring zombie yarn.

And caught some old school goodness - A spaghetti western style flick staring Lee Van Cleef and former professional football player Jim Brown titled El Condor. It kicked total ass.

I love the holiday break, which gives me the time to watch current and past movies.

Saw ANCHORMAN 2.

It was better than the first. Not great. They sure did get a lot of big names to cameo.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Awesome! Man I'm not a very emotional person but for some reason that little China Doll gal was choking me up on almost every scene she was in. Esp her intro scene.

I thought it was ok with the best thing being Zach Braffs monkey making animal noises.

I've been on a rampage lately.

I just watched NOW YOU SEE ME last night. The wife liked it a lot more than I did, but I thought it was still fun. But fuck do I hate Jesse Eisenberg. Dude plays the same prick in every movie. I also think they could have explained the magicians' goal a bit better, but at the same time, it didn't really matter. The fun was in the execution and that was a really fun movie. Could have been amazing though.

EDIT: Interesting conspiracy theorist POV on NYSM

WE'RE THE MILLERS was a silly quasi-pot comedy that was about as formulaic as you can get (very derivative of Farelly brothers movies) but the funny parts were funny and I laughed out loud a lot. And dear God, Jennifer Aniston is the finest wine in Hollywood, and just keeps getting better with age. I know we would hit it off if we ever got a chance to meet and hang out, but she hasn't returned any of my emails that I sent to her each day for the last three years and she seems to have had her private phone number changed. All I have to go on is the nanny cam that I put in her bedroom some few weeks ago, but things seem to be going ok for us. I mean her.

IRON MAN 3. Finally put the nail in that coffin. It was a great movie. I liked the PTSD side of fighting the AVENGERS aliens and having to rely on his brain to get him through some trouble. Then HOLY CRAP there's 1000 IRON MEN! Agree with someoone who said something before about the Mandarin reveal. That was well done, indeed.

Theorizing that one could poop within his own lifetime, Doctor Poopet led an elite group of scientists into the desert to develop a top secret project, known as QUANTUM POOP. Pressured to prove his theories or lose funding, Doctor Poopet, prematurely stepped into the Poop Accelerator and vanished. He awoke to find himself in the past, suffering from partial amnesia and facing a mirror image that was not his own. Fortunately, contact with his own bowels was made through brainwave transmissions, with Al the Poop Observer, who appeared in the form of a hologram that only Doctor Poopet could see and hear. Trapped in the past, Doctor Poopet finds himself pooping from life to life, pooping things right, that once went wrong and hoping each time, that his next poop will be the poop home.

The Way Way Back. Excellent movie! Sam Rockwell channels Bill Murray's performance from the 1979 movie "Meatballs".

I really enjoyed The Way Way Back as well, although the ending felt a bit weak to me. 4 asshole stepdads out of 5.

I thought Now You See Me was pretty ordinary, a worse Ocean's 11 but with magic. Let down mainly by the story elements and how they all came together. 2 smart-ass magicians out of 5.

One film I watched recently that I was pleasantly surprised with was Liberal Arts. Not much to say about it, I was expecting it to be cookie-cutter rom-com material, but it managed to keep me interested throughout. It also solidified my love of Alison Janney in everything she's in. Though I haven't seen Mum yet...

Don Juan was surprisingly enjoyable. I'd love to see an extended version of it, if it exists. Well cast and the message is quite good. People should give this a chance - plus the making out and stuff is pretty hot.

Tony Danza was perfectly cast. He just took over that smaller role and made it super, super real. I've known some real Jersey people/Long Island people and he has it down exactly.

Scarlett Johannson does a great job as a Jersey girl as well. She doesn't quite disappear into the role like Danza does, but it's close.

JGL seems like he chopped some of his own scenes out to get more time in for Scarlett and Danza, so his character is a bit "Point A to Point B", but is still likable.

Julianne Moore is good, but it's a very limited role for her, despite the great things that character says and does.

Shit, I forgot I saw AT WORLD'S END too. That one was fun. I still prefer Shaun of the Dead of the three, but they are all great flicks.

I liked Don Jon quite a bit as well. I think if it has a flaw it's that it tried to create a somewhat universal message about media consumption, but it only focuses on two facets of a multi-faceted problem -- but what it does with those facets was absolutely solid. There's ultimately a tension between the big(ish) message and the very personal, individualized stories. At least that's my take on why it seemed like a "smaller" movie than it ought to feel, though amph could be right as well.

I'm not a huge JGL fan but he was great in this. And ScarJo -- she doesn't have Streep range or anything, but when she's got a role within her range she generally knocks it out of the park, and this was no exception. And yah, Danza was perfect and hilarious.

Lastly, if you are planning to see this at home, I urge you to watch it with your parents and then report back here on those results.

Initially I thought you were talking about Don Juan De Marco...LOL, which gave me nostalgia.

As I said in the other topic, I watched All is Lost, the film about Robert Redford in a sinking boat. It's incredible, it really is. If you can watch it in the cinema I recommend it, for the proper immersion of the thing.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

I did without knowing anything about it going in — it was awkward. Great movie though.

CLOUD ATLAS - All the storylines were at least mildly interesting. Suffered from being predictable, the connections were often unclear. The New Seoul storyline was visually stunning but ultimately i didn't buy the conclusion
Spoiler
.
Haven't read the book... am curious now but not rushing.

THE DARK NIGHT RISES - Brain off Big Hollywood Batman. Had to keep reminding myself not to actually think about the plot, but entertaining enough. The massive number of C-List genre actors in bit and non-speaking parts were fun to spot .

Looks really slick, and quite frankly after the genius CLOUD ATLAS, I will see everything these two bring to the screen.
