Just watched Resident Evil: Extinction on the same site as I saw the new Futurama movie, with a link to Battlestar Galactica: Razor, and was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't NEARLY as appalling as I had imagined! Sure, the series is just an excuse to show Milla Jovovich naked a lot - which really isn't a problem, admittedly - and kill smelly corpse things occasionally (Tiste's favourite film trilogy of ALL TIME), and has the worse end fights of any zombie movie ever, and REALLY hokey dialogue, and people surviving in a zombie wasteland not noticing a dude being infected...

BUT, it gave one character a nice sendoff (even with being ripped off from every movie ever, I still liked this version) and has potentially the best ending of any movie ever:
Spoiler

Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Saw "Hitman" yesterday..

Two words--"SEQUEL, NOW!!!!"

Movie was absolutely awesome, the style and feel of he game was well-maintained, teh introduction of a "love" subplot was well done a la "beginnning of "The Transporter", before he gets it on with the girl." and yeah, crazy short fight sequences... AWESOME

Best fucking movie I have seen in years, absolutly fantastic.

Go see twice, now.

@ Wolf - out of curiosity, what is the IQ of shoe leather?

Leather can be really "smart" you know..... or maybe it only looks "smart" :D

I've seen the first posters for THE NORTHERN LIGHTS up in the cinema here in NZ, but they say it's not out until the new year. Does anyone here know when it comes out in the US/Canada or the UK? And, whether it's supposed to be any good?
Cheers.

It's out in the UK on 5th December. I'm quite looking forward to it. Nicole Kidman's casting as Mrs Coulter couldn't have been better. But I'm not seeing Daniel Craig as Lord Azriel. I thought of him as older, and considerably more beardy. Hey ho.

Other than the godawfulness of Beowulf 3D, movies I saw recently were:

American Gangster - pure class. They could have edited out some filler here and there, especially with regards to the corrupt New York cops, as that storyline winds up going nowhere.

Dan in Real Life - surprisingly good. Steve Carell really is a good actor.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

I finally saw Last King Of Scotland. It was really good. The last 30 minutes or so were a bit brutal, but I think that was probably the point. I highly recommend it.

The kids and I watched "The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill". Very good movie/documentary about a guy who adopts/is adopted by a flock of parrots in San Francisco. DVD case says "you'll laugh, you'll cry" and that turned out to be true. The kids liked it, too!

Great movie, but perhaps just because i had seen BLOOD DIAMOND around the same time, i'm coming to the conclusion that every film about Africa must have the line 'this is Africa' in it; and nothing good EVER happens in Africa. In any event, Forrest Whittaker was brilliant and hey, who knew Gillian Andersen could act like anyone but Scully.

Just saw AMERICAN GANGSTER. Tried to make Denzel's character a bit too cuddly, and the ending was a bit too happy for my suspension of disbelief, but overall good film worth seeing.

BECOMING JANE made me want to stuff popcorn in thru my ears until the butterish topping drowned my brain, but i suspect all things Jane Austen related will simply be wasted upon me as a result of my gender.

BEOWULF was good fun, see related thread.

I just saw THE LIVES OF OTHERS it is superb. What a great movie. For those of you who remember the wonderful thing that was the cold war it is really a must see. It is probably the best movie that I have seen in a long time.
How many fucking people do I have to hammer in order to get that across.

Agreed. Excellent movie.

Oh also in theaters: RENDITION. Really dumbs down a really complex hypothetical situation. Mildly entertaining if you can avoid thinking it through too much. If there's nothing better to see, or otherwise wait for the disk.

Watched Resident Evil 3, Eastern Promises and I am Omega yesterday.

Resident Evil was awesome. Like all the other movies they hired a drunk hobo to write the manuscript, the movie makes no sense, but the scenes were coolness. The attack of the crows, the super mutant tyrant guy, the clones, that mila woman kicking ass everywhere.

Eastern promises was great. About as good as I expected but not as good as all the hype surrounding Viggos character. Expecially the revelation of Viggos character sort of spoiled the ending for me. It could have been a Russian Godfather Story, instead it just became a good drama.

I am Omega was plain poo, but you see this from the start and it was barely tolerable because there was mutants in the movie. Gotta love the mutants.

ENCHANTED. Don't. Just don't. Just don't. Unless you have to amuse multiple adolescent girls (shut. up.), in which case, bring a flask and spike your soda.

FIDO. Clever twisted good fun tongue-in-decomposing-cheek retro movie about a boy and his pet zombie. Worth the rental/download.

I just watched the remake of the The Hitcher.

What a pointless movie. It's the same exact film only this time the girl gets all the attention. All the scenes seem the same. More gore or violence some places, less elsewhere.

Sean Bean will never be able to fill out the shoes of the immortal Rutger Hauer.

It certainly didn't have the psycological terror of the eighties version.
