I watched Eastern Promises tonight. Very good film.

And the fight scene in the Sauna is without a doubt one of the most hardcore things in cinema history.

Watching American Gangster now ...

Hmmm, well it's 6 am and i just finished watchin "Day watch", the way God intended it to be watched--meaning the original sound.
Rather awesome movie (long, too), the only truly dissapointing part is that it leaves no room for the third part... That, and the plot doesn't follow the books in any way, shape or form, except for occasional shreds of subplots...

I quite enjoyed 30 Days Of Night. Nice to see Vampires portrayed this way instead of the romanticized Interview w/ the Vampire/ FFC's Dracula type.

Sure, you do need to gloss over a few things

but show me a movie that doesn't do this. For me, there were relatively few of these moments.

Interesting? That was such a pointless movie...like what the hell was that? There was like no storyline, the gore was non-existent (faces covered with blood is not gore) it wasn't scary at all and...okay Snakes on a Plane was better than this movie at least Snakes on a Plane had some form of a story line this one was just randomness with the vampires appearing out of nowhere and then magically disappearing.

Wow. Did we watch the same movie? The story is about the strongest/luckiest members of a small town pulling together in an attempt to survive a terrible evil come to their community.

I thought the gore was adequate for the genre, certainly not "non-existent"
Spoiler

Not scary? (granted, I watch horror movies with a sense of detachment, so I never actually feel frightened) Sure, it doesn't rely on cheap, hackneyed tricks like sudden jolts. A lot of it is more of a foreboding sort of scary - hiding from the monsters, cut off from help. The overhead view of the town being attacked the first night was a fantastic, chaotic sequence.

As for the vampires "appearing out of nowhere", I got the impression that they arrived on the oil tanker ship they show at the very start of the film. Presumably they went back there at the end.

I've read other critics that complain that it was very shallow. I didn't feel that way - there's quite a bit of character development if you look for it.
Spoiler

About the only thing I didn't really care for was Eben's choice at the end. It didn't ruin it for me, but I wish they found another way to end it.

Anyway, this is one for my collection when the DVD comes out.

I fell asleep twice trying to get through David Lynch's _Inland Empire_ this past weekend. _Mulholland Drive_ at least was surreally interesting; _Inland Empire_ is just incoherent.

I saw Miami Vice and Zodiac this weekend.

Miami Vice was strange. I wasn't really expecting anything because you had Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrel playing roles of TV'characters who's shoes they were never going to fill. But the whole thing was strange it was like the film couldn't decide if it was a action/crime flick, reality show'ish/fake documentary or a drama. Some times the film just went way off on a tangent, like that weird love story between Farrel and Jap chick, takes ten minutes and doesn't make a damn sense. Yet you know if it had been Don Johnson you'd have believed it.

Weirdest thing of all, the original mission, finding the mole, is never resolved, they just blow away a lot of bad people instead.

Zodiac I thought was cool. I've never heard about the Zodiac killer so I was catching up on the history along with the mystery. Foronce I didn't want to punish Gyllenhall with a tireiron and Robert Doney Jr was weird as usual. I liked the open ending and I thought some of the scenes were very well made.

I nearly screamed when the Zodiac stabbed that couple lying tide up by the lake. I was shouting at the main character to run when he went into scary cinema guy's basement.

It was very long but it wasn't unbearable.

Saw "Lions for Lambs."

Interesting performances and well directed (essentially you are watching 3 dialogues intercutting each other so you don't get bored). But it goes nowhere. Maybe that's the point.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

I saw Dan In Real Life last night, as well as Pan's Labyrinth. Dan was pretty good, I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did, it was very amusing. Pan's Labyrinth was very good. It looked really cool, the creatures looked very nice, the storyline seemed pretty good. I didn't really like exactly how it ended, but oh well. I also saw the rat chef one. I also liked this one, eventhough I thought I wouldn't, it had many funny parts to it that I really liked.
