I liked the first one a lot, so looking fwd to this.

Interesting. Atomic Blonde v The Bride.

I liked the first one as well so fingers crossed for this one. I do fear the trailer gives a little bit too much away though.

Was watching the new Netflix Doc BRITIAN AND THE BLITZ which was really interesting and tell a lot of stories of the general population and how it affected them as opposed to the broader and more surface military stories. Seeing the kids and hearing about them being evacuated to safer places....my heart would tear in fucking two if I were separated from my kids like that.

Anyways, a really interesting watch especially in current times...watching Hitler fail at what he attempted (demoralizing the Brits) and knowing that men like Hitler will always fail eventually for those exact reasons...gives me hope that a certain orange piece of shit in the states will eventually fail too.

anyways, worth a look.

The horrid side of that story is how it galvanised the country, strike command were told this, repeatedly from several studies they commissioned, and were strongly advised against similar attacks on Germanys populace.
They did it anyway and firebombed Dresden to ashes, which, in addition to killing about 25k civilians, raised German unity and prolonged the war by about another 6 weeks.
Which probably led to the Berlin Wall as the race to get there would never have been on.

Yep. There's literally a few people in the documentary who were interviewed at the time and they said (when asked by the media) that Britain should 100% do this back to the Germans...sigh.

The continued film connoisseur education of my nephew continues next weekend.

Thus far we have watched:

FORBIDDEN KINGDOM (this was all it took to make him into an avowed Jackie Chan fan)

MORTAL KOMBAT (1995)

RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (we didn't have any martial arts flicks on hand so we watched some Indy)

...

Now the choices I'm choosing between for the next one are: POLICE STORY (if we are going deep dive into Chan may as well go to his most accomplished work), or PROJECT A....or do I throw him even further back in time and drop him into some 60's/70's Shaw Bros. Kung Fu? MY YOUNG AUNTIE would be a solid choice, or DIRTY HO...I dunno. Anyone want to weigh in? Worry?

I would go with Police Story. There are very few things cooler in all of human history than the bus chase scene. Depending on his age though, the pirate stuff in Project A might be more appealing than a more modern cop movie? But if he's old enough that non-action parts aren't boring to him, Police Story.

My experience with older stuff like the Shaw Bros. is much more limited tbh. Five Deadly Venoms is Shaw Bros. though right? It has the appeal of variety since they all have different disciplines. I know when I was a kid that was the kind of thing that appealed to me most: the variety of Transformers, the different specialties of TMNT, the different powers of the X-Men, you know what I mean? Even stuff like the Care Bears or the Smurfs, there was huge appeal to me that everyone had their specializations.

They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Yeah, I think he can handle POLICE STORY, so I'll probably go with that. Thanks man!

Amusingly, when I had the Arrow Video streaming service so I could watch the Shaw Bros. stuff, my daughter (who would have been about 7.5-8 years old at the time) watched some of them with me...and she was fine with the Lau Kar-Leung directed stuff, but Chang Cheh's Venom Mob stuff has a lot of horror elements...and those scared her....in FIVE DEADLY VENOMS a person got put into an Iron Maiden (and I mean the blood in those days was bright red paint and unrealistic has hell)...and I turned to look at her and she had tears streaming down her face she was so scared...I felt awful (I honestly thought the garish red paint and no discernible wounds would mean she would find it silly and not realistic; I was wrong). So I would deliberately avoid Chang Cheh's Venom mob stuff with my nephew as a result.

That said, I agree that the different styles of kung Fu would be worth showing him, but I'll stick with Jackie for that, maybe Young Master or Drunken Master II

Yep. It's probably the most awful I've felt about her watching something around me. We learned quickly after that that she gets spooked easy with stuff....my Brother in law had some goofy jump scare video on his phone that she saw and that kept her up for days, and my niece who is about two years older than her showed her a video about trees being scary (I don't know how) and she was TERRIFIED of trees and forests for weeks. Poor kid.

That said, she's been in Karate and Taekwondo for like 4 years now, so I think I always see her as tougher than she is internally or emotionally, and I have to try to be cognizant of that.

After watching that Turning Point Vietnam War docuseries, I decided to try to re-watch a movie I HATED when I first saw it in my youth....PLATOON....good news, I still fucking hate it. So much of that movie just makes my stomach turn, and it's just a two hour reminder what a waste of time, energy, and lives the Vietnam war was....and I guess that's the point, but still...not for me.

Short Terminator-esque comedy film made using Veo 3... after playing around with it for less than 24 hours:

Full fantasy movie trailer made using Veo 3:

This could be great for independent films... and for authors who want to try to adapt their books on their own (perhaps to help persuade studios to do a full production...).

Re-watched 3 Alan Moyle films that I used to love to see if they held up. I'm happy to report that 2 hold up just fine, and one of them doesn't QUITE hit the highs it did for teenage me...

PUMP UP THE VOLUME - This was the one that didn't quite hold up. There are parts of it that still feel relevant and I enjoy....but 80s/90's Christian Slater his much higher peaks in KUFFS and GLEAMING THE CUBE. The infantile faking masturbation happens 3 times at least in the first 20 minutes and I didn't even recall it was in there....which shows you that I paid no attention to it when I used to watch this movie all the time at age like 14...the back half of it is better than the front half but it's missing something that I think I used to get out of it.

EMPIRE RECORDS - this one is still great, and is filled with quotable lines and fun bits of story and tonnes of character moments. Rory Cochrane's Lucas is superb throughout.

NEW WATERFORD GIRL - A Canadian classic featuring the girl who looked MOST like the girlfriend I had in my 20's, Liane Balaban. But a fun Newfie romp and filled with poignant family stuff and enjoyable heart.

I was just thinking the other day about rewatching this. Loves it when I was younger. Your review makes me think I should leave it with the nostalgia.
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.
