Oblivion was an excellent movie I thought. The sound design was perfect.

100% agreed. It’s so underrated, and one of my fave movies of the entire last decade.

Alternative view, man I thought it was dull drab glarbage.

Edge of Tomorrow was solid, Knight and Day was a lot of fun

The Mitchells vs The Machines (new animated movie on Netflix) is quite good. Very funny, the stakes are high without being too scary for littler kids (except maybe one spot), and consistently visually creative.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

I just watched Tenet for the second time after about 8 months. It's more enjoyable the second time around as you are doing less work to keep up. I could completely follow it for about 90% of the way through. The first time I saw it I probably understood 60% and that was hard won. There were a few early tricks that I picked up on early on that would have been impossible without a second watch so I suppose he has intentionally made a film that you have to go around a few times to understand. Which is also kind of the plot. So it's definitely clever.

It wasn't enjoyable enough that I want to watch it again although I said that the first time. Maybe in another year or so I'll be inclined.

There was a very in depth discussion about entropy afterwards with Mr PigDog.

Watched Downhill. Not all that good, but it's weird because it stars Will Ferrell and Julia Louis-Dreyfus and it was an unexpected type of comedy from them in that it was dark (or maybe sad is the better way to put it). They are a couple with two young boys who are on a ski trip in the Alps and an avalanche scare triggers the sadness / couple and family issues. It was weird to see Ferrel in such a film, although if I remember correctly Everything Must Go was kind of dark comedy. I looked up some of the background and I guess it is based on a film from 2014 titled Force Majeure, which seems to have high praise. I wouldn't mind watching it and will look out for it.

Looks fun. The best thing about Venom 1, maybe the only good thing, was the interaction between Brock and Venom. Unfortunately it doesn't look like they're going with an R rating.

Venom was on odd movie because of that schizophrenia approach, which was by design, I'm guessing, due to the subject matter. Was it a horror movie? Was it an action movie? Was it a comedy? I like that scatter approach personally if it can be done competently, but it wasn't executed all that well In Venom. And the fact that it was pablum safe PG-13 only amplified the mediocrity. Still, I will watch this new one.

That's the one. Give it a go. I really enjoyed Brightburn.

I laughed so hard at that bathroom scene. Hardy's scream was so immediate and surprising.

Venom functions on a level that exists beyond normal human film-making. It's the only other movie in the Punisher: War Zone Cinematic Universe.

The takeaway from Avatar should have been "a cool, well-executed gimmick (3D) and cutting-edge CGI elevated a mediocre film" and not "this was an incredible film and we should make more of it"

Looks good, hope it's got some substance behind the style. Suspect that in rubbish modern era trailer style it reveals too much though.

So Avatar 2 coming 2022, 3 2024, 4 2026 and 5 2028. All December.

I’m not sure exactly how excited I am about these as it’s been way to long since 1st came. I’m sure the campaign will relight my fire but as of now I’m just kinda “oh okay.”

See, I feel like AVATAR, even though it was a story we've seen before in the first film has enough of a ground and base for world building something far more unique in the sequels.

Beyond that, I trust James Cameron more than most directors. The man has never made a film I didn't love. NEVER.

So count me in as looking forward to it.

Also there's the fact that it was the highest grossing film for like a decade. That's why a studio would want to make a lot more of it.

Still, I think Cameron is one of a select few, who has the power to get the okay for the production of 4 movies sight unseen that probably cost a couple billion in CGI.
