Damn!
Double Damn!
Tehol beddict, our barmaid in the official Trickster has been flooded out of her home. Late last night I got a message saying that flooding is getting severe and this morning I got these pics from her showing...well its a frikkin disaster:
Apparently its the second worst flooding of the province in its entire history by a few feet and it might well become the worst. Damn!
I stupidly told her to get out of town and the reply was that all the outbound roads are flooded. WTF? Id be bricking it, but she was calmly moving her stuff upstairs and actually went to work today...She's got bigger balls than me, it seems.
Anyway, I just got a couple of quick messages saying that the water is inching up her drive and shes been ordered to evac her home in 10 mins...and that was three hours ago.
I wished her the best of luck and all and am hoping we can all show our love and support...
Good Luck Tehol! And good luck Winnipeg and Manitoba!

I'm fine everyone thank you for your concern! I did have to evacuate my home but I'm currently in a hotel. They are hoping the waters will start to recede soon, so I'm hoping to get back home by the end of the weekend. I'll still have water in the basement, but that can always be pumped out. Anyways I'll keep everyone posted and thanks again for caring!

Good to hear you're okay TB.
Still sucks that your house got flooded, hope there wasn't any of those ice fragments near your house.
Best of luck for getting everything back. May I suggest building a 20 m tall water proof wall around your house?

i actually live just upriver in winnipeg, and the water is hiiiigh. apparently the crest of the flood will come by this weekend and it'll all back off, but the "flood experts" have been revising their predictions almost daily. i went sandbagging one day about two weeks ago and saw some of the ice that got busted up by these massive freakin ice bashers, three, four feet thick, these pieces of ice.

Yes the same "flood experts" who said we had nothing to worry about because of theiir expanded floodway which was going to save all of us! We had absolutely nothing to worry about! Of course they didn't have any plan for silly things like ice! It's amazing to see how they're back peddling and making up excuses now!
I've attached a few pictures of the ice from our local paper so you non-winnipeggers get an idea of what we're dealing with

That "thin ice" picture is just brilliant.
So what's the word on the water receding?

I'm sorry but the "Thin Ice" sign right beside those glacial chunks is so ridiculous, I can't help but laugh.
You got flood insurance, TB?
You got flood insurance, TB?
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Believe it or not flood insurance isn't offered in Manitoba! My house is insured, but not against flooding, although the government will reimburse flood victims for some things. For alot of it I'm on my own, but I moved as much as I could to the top level of my house. I know the basement is flooded, and the garage is full of water, but when I left that was about it. I'm hoping the water starts to recede soon and there's not too much damage to the rest of my house.

As to the water receding no one is sure, we're as sinisdar asid we're expecting the crest on the weekend and then it's supposed to go down. We have a chance of rain though which won't help things. I'll be back in my house long before alot of people out of town, they're really screwed.
