Hey all, just another far out theory from me. There has always been alot of speculation around Traveller/Dassem/Dessembrae :D . But is there any chance he could be more, someone else also. He has been around along time, even before the Empire was built. so just who is he. Not sure if this has been touched upon yet but.... here comes crazy theory :Crash: .

Could he be Desembelikis also (pls dont nuke me for this)

Editted the title because it was perhaps a bit too spoilerific. Remember to think of the uninitiated when you create a headline for the thread.

YOU HAVE BEEN NUKED BY A MODERATOR! :D

No, no, no and... no.

The only thing Dessembrae and Dessembeliackis share is an unfortunate coincidence in name.

It's commonly asked, and commonly answered, so no problem! :D
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Desem belikis veered his soul into the last 7 hounds of darkness or deragoth before the end of the first Empire in order to and among other things kill the madness of the D'ivers and Torvohal's like Dejim whatever his last name was.

Now if that First Empire had had a first sword and if such a person had a soul that would have been reborn then Dassem is said to be the First Sword Reborn, but that is more likely just a saying (no matter how much I would want it to be otherwise.)

The origins of Dassem to me are just as interesting as the origin of Rake, but Rake has more fanboi's so he gets his own possible Trilogy....booooooo!

:D

Don't confuse him.

There is no connection between Daseem and Dessembelackis.

What if SE or ICE decide on a whim to make it so there is some six degrees of Kevin Bacon between them? Never is such an overused term IMO.

Erikson has himself stated that there is no relation between the two characters.

And don't none of you motherfuckers go pointing out that Dassem was oddly familiar with the Hounds now, or I'll find out wher you live and hide a dead salmon under your pillow :p

I have to say that a life story of Dassem would be far more interesting to me than an Andii story :p
I would love to know what he and Kellanved and Dancer plotted for sure.

Same here, a series on the the empire's early days would be captivaing. Like that story Dassem remembers where they faced the armored aristocracy and they waited till they were tired from riding around in armor all day and then descended and slaughtered them.

Maybe that'll be in the Encyclopedia, a chapter on the founding and expansion of the early Empire?

Edit: Just thought about it, either that thing is going to be 5,000 pages long or SE is going to have to be brief.

It's specualtion but it appeared that Dassem was part of Kel and Dancer's original plan to form an empire, chart the Azath and eventually ascend to godhood, BUT the events between Dassem and Hood derailed Dassem's participation in it and he went off solo and ascended to godhood anyways.

The Hounds thing is unexplained.

I had the thought once that Dassem, being born a few thousand years after Dessembelackis dissappered into the deragoth, may have been named after him, but that's as far as that goes.

- Abyss, could say Dessi went to the dogs...

I want to know who his wife/mate was and did he become Lord of Tragedy when she died or has he always been the Lord?
How did he meet up with K & D?
Was his pact with Hood part of the deal?
What did he do in the chaining? and why his daughter? did she have some talent?

Oh come now. What Erickson states and what he writes isnt always going to be the same. We have enough proof of that. I have no problem with someone stating it as above, but as long as its not a Never then we maintain my beloved shades of gray. It is the truth as of now, with the next book that truth might change.

Sincerely

ps Is his daughter dead in the Azath or in a Vorcan/Kalam almost dead area?

Sadly, some things are black and white. Speaking of white, how about them Hounds of Light? :p

Whoah. Mind blown. For some reason the question of who the mother of Dassems daughter was has never occured to me.

Five bucks on Surly!

Don't be silly. Traveller is obviously Kellanved. Even though they appear in the same scenes together sometimes. It is just a clever trick of SE to throw you off! He is also The Crippled God, The Pack, and Osserc (but with tusks).
It is obvious, when you really think about it.

It's the first thing that occurred to me when we met his daughter.

Why on earth Surly?

Well I seriously doubt we will ever know of course, but still think it would make a great back story.
Hey.. is there a "best back-story that will never be written thread"? or did we have one and it's dead?
