This forum isn't a democrasy. It's a benevolent tyranny.

The word of the mods and admin is law and not something that the mods or admin need to discuss.

Harsh and sometimes unfair? Maybe, but it works.

Frook, a word of caution...you do realize what you are doing isn't that different from what Terez did.

The mods may not see it the same, but you campaigning for Terez's return and disregarding the mods decision to ban her isn't much different than when Terez fought her suspension and disregarded the mods decision. Just from an outsider looking in. I imagine your point that hopefully Terez can come back has been noted(possibly disregarded) , but noted. Why keep pushing? Just my opinion.

Point taken, Bent. My god, you'd make a good advocate :harhar: , with a gun.

In my defense, I am not doing it for myself, Terez was. Also, is it wrong to speak out on anothers' behalf? But you are probably right, my name is probably mud in mod heaven and I shall cease and desist until the next time I see terez' name, and after much crying I may bring it up again.

In a case like this one, where the mods have spoken... and acted... and explained themselves... it does become a problem when one or more members want to make a debate out of it afterwards. Now this thread was made specifically so that people could get things out in the air, so no harm there. But outside this thread, in the future, lamanting Terez ban will get you nowhere and the mods are going to clamp down on any discussions on the subject.

Since the mods have made their decision, there remains no reason to speak of it again. A mods verdict is final and that is that.

Take this as a reminder and a warning, since there are other less lenient admins and mods around that will come down hard and fast at their own discretion.

In death we have a name... her name was Terez Poulson, her name was Terez Poulsen,...

This is Apt. Apt has bitch eye.

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

We're talking about Bob (Meatloaf), whom Cornelius (Ed Norton) notes has very large breasts for a man. The first rule of Mod Heaven is...

Apt was quoting Fight Club with the "in death we have a name..." thing.

Yes this is Malazan Empire and yes that is the reason why we were all brought here in the first place, but it seems as if we've outgrown our God.

We might have, but the forum can't. Respect must be given to the mods for even allowing non book related threads.

There are plenty of open discussion forums on the internet where anything and everything can be discussed. Temple or not this place carries a name.

You're forgetting that this is the official forum for Steven Erikson, Frook. The mods are given strict guidelines that have to be followed. There isn't a choice.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Why would any of us want to go out there? We we all drawn here by our common interest in all things Malazan and each of us brings a whole host of other things that we like to talk about be it movies, the environment, religion...Whatever. The boards have evolved, thanks to the way the mods and admins have done things into a nice community where we can do anything from bow at the Altar, which I do (I am an unashamed fan) to shooting the breeze in the Inn. I am not entirely sure what you're actually driving at?

Separate the book forums from the rest of the Empire? Wat?

Yeah, when the Malazan series carries our web address on the back covers we have to make sure we have a policy comensurate with the taste and decency that the authours would wish, although this site is not run by the publishers it is run by Steve's friends and we'd be letting him down if we didn't maintain a certain level of moderation.

There will be inconsistencies as a lot of the time we have to make calls on what is acceptable and what isn't, if anyone has issues we can discuss it on PM or email and we'll try to be fair but the bottom line is we have to keep a certain standard, the other mods and I do this on a voluntary basis since I have got a lot out of being a member here and want to help, it's not our job, we don't get paid so less bitching and some understanding of the amount of time some of the guys have to devote to keeping this an up to date and functioning forum would show a touch of thoughtfullness.

I think hes saying that even though this is the inn, as a whole the empire represents steve on some level.
Whilst I agree with this sentiment, we don't want to give the series or steve bad press (when SOT got a tv show they clamped down even harder than normal, not that I frequent the shit hole), I feel compelled again to say MBotF is adult fiction imo, one of my favourite characters starts out as a murdering rapist with absolutely no moral compass as we understand it today. If theres kiddies herre, their parents need to monitor their reading habits a little more closely.
However if someone was searching for a bit of info about the books, to see if they should bother start reading they'll likely avoid the spoiler laden book forums, and general discussion is where they would end up.
That is why some moderation of the inn is required, I agree completely with the sentiment. However the issue here is the banning, which was an over reaction imo, yes terez flaunted her suspension by creating the alts, but in fairness to the girl, she wasn't informed of her suspension, its potential duration or what the hell was going on, she only noticed the small post and e-mail mentioning it after her perma ban.

Edit b- cross post what cougar said about representing steve

Well then she needs to learn to read more carefully and occasionally think things through doesn't she. Good god she breached almost all the rules of the forum in the last few months and this was the final straw, if you are suspended for a few days then take it on the chin and consider why, it's hardly the end of the world.

In fairness to the girl, she deliberately ignored several moderator warnings. She was told outright she'd crossed the line and her immediate reaction was to keep going. As much fun as I had talking to her and as much as I enjoyed a portion of her posts, she really should have just shut the fuck up when she was asked to - it should not have taken an order and it certainly shouldn't have taken the banning.
