It was cumulative. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for subtext...As long as it stays sub (and I don't mean that in a BDSM way) Explicit description has its place, I would never argue with that, but I generally prefer things implied, that's all. Maybe it's because I'm English, or it could be because I'm old; but I'd tend to go with subtlety over a big stick 9 times out of 10.
BTW I'm not criticising, I would never expect someone else to hold to (or even to be aware of) what I consider my own personal standards of behaviour and modes of expression, because everyone has their own thresholds for this kind of stuff - and I also know that mine are as changeable as the next person's. Another day and I'd have barely blinked at it. I'm not offended, merely grossed out. And I'm certainly not about to insist that others be censored.
