wow now if he could only finish the damn series!

'I am the Shield Anvil.' I am Fener's grief. I am the world's grief. And I will hold. I will hold it all, for we are not yet done. <Itkovian>

'Because a god visits her, Fist. He comes to break her heart. Again and again.'<Nether>
'Fucking dragon.' <Fiddler>

'Aye.' It's a good word. I think. More a whole attitude than a word, really. With lots of meaning in it, too. A bit of 'yes' and a bit of 'well fuck' and maybe some 'we're all in this together.' So a word to some up the Malazans. <Sunrise>

I'm very happy with the additions, but a bit wary about the Ned/Jaime conversation. I hope Jaime doesn't tell him why he killed Aerys; or if he does I hope he doesn't give his true reasons. But I do hope that Jaime gets more screentime than in the book so that nonreaders will readily recognize him in season 3.

Apparently Jaime indicates in the conversation that he killed Aerys partially because of what he did to Brandon and Rickard, which Ned dismisses out of hand. Jaime doesn't give the real reason at this point.

It looks like they are trying to make Jaime marginally more human and sympathetic to start off with, before taking him down the dark side with the defenestration scene. This will either be a bit cheesy, or may set up his later character development a bit better than the book managed.

If they make this as good as they did Rome and Deadwood its going to be the best friggin show ever. Better not get too excited, it might be 5 years before it comes out.

This is a sentence I didn't think I would ever write in my entire life, but:

Martin McGuinness has successfully lobbied HBO to have A Game of Thrones filmed in Northern Ireland.

The BBC also have a report on the situation here.

The pilot will enter production in the third quarter of 2009 (it's in pre-production and casting right now) and start filming around October. A 'massive set' will be built at the Paint Hall studio in Belfast, presumably for Winterfell. In addition to shooting in Northern Ireland, I am also hearing there will be additional location shoots in Scotland and Morocco.

This is one of those fantasy books that could make the switch really easily and be amazing. I could never see the malazan as a tv series or movie. I liked the choice of Ireland. Can't wait until we come up with a character list for it.

As a hairy northener myself, I demand to be someone in the Stark family or household!

Only just found this thread, and am very excited. It's been ages since I read ASOIAF but I do loves it!

Peter Dinklage cast as Tyrion Lannister.

That's a slam-dunk if ever I saw one. Right from Day 1 of the project everyone has said Dinklage had to be Tyrion and HBO seem to have agreed.

Tom McCarthy, director of Dinklage's first major movie, The Station Agent, has also been hired to direct the pilot episode.

I'm hella excited about this.....ESPECIALLY if the casting rumour of Tricia Helfer as Cersei comes true....that would be kickass casting choice!

Looks like a pretty much perfect decision. HBO's casting people must be on steroids because they hardly ever make a wrong move.

Do we have Sean Bean as Eddard Stark?

Maybe.

Any other paper in the world and I'd say that's a dead cert, but its the Daily Mail and their gossip column to boot, so 'maybe' is the best we can do. Hopefully HBO will have some sort of official announcement tomorrow or next week.

Although that does mean we're going to get endless Boromir/Ned Stark mash-up quotes for the next two years. Oh well.
