Wow...if this is actually finally happening I think I'll finally cave and get HBO, :) I was able to resist the Sopranos and (thanks to the Internets) I can still keep up with True Blood but there's no way I'll be able to sit idly by and NOT watch ASOIAF.

Woo hoo! Can't wait!

Rome was a co-production deal, so if HBO have got some dosh out of the Beeb that might well be the case...
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Yes, and hopefully quite close to the US transmission date, although given that the BBC has suddenly dropped the ball on this (showing THE TUDORS substantially later than in America and apparently not planning to show the new season of HEROES until the New Year although it starts in America in September) that may not be the case. But the BBC is bank-rolling part of the project and may be involved in some production capacity as well.

If the Beeb are bankrolling some of this that means they'll almost definitely have first dibs on showing it in the UK. Given the number of British actors in it too, and reading between the lines, it does look as if some sort of co-production deal might be in place too. In which case "Yay!!"

All we need now is for the script to be good enough to get a Rome level sense of conviction out of the actors. As we know from some of their previous output HBO are not afraid to go to some very dark places with their material and if the BBC are co-producing there may also be that grimness that we Brits like to bring to our escapism - if you don't believe me on this, take a look at Doctor Who and tell me that a purely US made kids tv show would go to the kind of unpleasant places that goes on occasion and have the body count it does...

The problem with this, is that the last fantasy tv series the BBC was involved with was Merlin... and look how that turned out :)

On a more amused note, Alfie Allen. HAHAHAHA!

Well, it was a kid's show aimed at eight-year-olds. I thought it worked quite well on that level (and the Season 1 finale was quite amusingly twisted on that score). It was certainly better than ROBIN HOOD, that's for sure.

That is an amusing one, but he has gotten good notices for his role in Equus. He's never going to live down being Lily Allen's little brother 'sitting round the house all day smoking weed' for the rest of his life though :D

Plus, hopefully that means Keith Allen in a cameo as Balon Grejoy. Providing he does his 'scary psycopath' acting rather than 'camp Fat Les/Sherrif of Nottingham' thing, of course.

Lena Headey, fresh from playing Sarah Connor in The Terminator TV show and Queen Gorgo in 300, has been cast as Cersei Lannister.

Interesting choice. She has the cold, haughty and conniving air needed for Cersei. She's quite a recognisable name, to the point where I thought she was going to go off and do a big film career after Terminator finished. But OTOH Cersei is a hell of a good role for an actress to sink her teeth into. And she can hold her own against Sean Bean quite well, plus I'd buy her and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Peter Dinklage as siblings.

For no good reason, in my head Cersei was always younger looking.
Anyhoo, she's a solid actress and a 'name'. I actually thought her 300 work was better than most of TSCC, but the weaknesses of that show weren't really her fault.

- Abyss, will now hold out for Cersei to whip out a shotgun.

Dye her hair and she would be perfect I reckon.

How she could be much younger than that I don't know considering Joffery is about 12(?) years old, which puts Cersei in at about her late twenties but probably early 30's considering they had kids pretty early in the books.

Numbers 5 and 12 so don't work for me and I'm not sure about 13. This Nikolaj guy doesn't fit my image of Jaime at all (umm...isn't Jaime supposed to be handsome? This guy has a strange face, :p ) but maybe it's just the weird picture with that mean expression. As for Jack Gleeson, I hope he looks less like an elf IRL than that head shot suggests. I sort of see Joff as almost like a young Leo DiCaprio, cute and sort of generic.

Harry Lloyd will probably work once they get him into hair and makeup, it's sort of hard to tell how someone would look with silvery hair and violet eyes when they're a brunette. The rest, tho...awesome! I especially love Sean Bean as Ned Stark. :p

There is going to be a lot of hair changes I imagine... I think Lena Heady could be a good choice, but I still can't get past her being the sexy police woman in The Parole Officer... :p

I like Lena Heady but she's not at all how I imagined Cersei, not cold enough somehow.

Joffrey looks like a little t*** so thats perfect!
