Second, Rake is a selfrighteous prick. I think it was already starting in book 2 and 3 but basically, if Richard thinks he's in the right, he'll kill a little old lady if she lies to him. (I'm slightly exaggerating) Richard only seems to work in extremes. In book 2 he kills a bunch of unarmed corrupt officials because they annoy him... also he thought they had ordered the excecution of Kahlan.

oh god oh god no you didn't!

You saw nothing.... NOTHING! :p I don't know why you'd fabricate such slander about Rake.

So im halfway though " Confesser " It is the last book right?

I hope so. I quite liked the first few books but they've become really preachy and seem to have endless rambling about this that and another. Say you or i would say. "That Cat is Black" In the book they say " The Cat is Black because of the angle of the colour refracting through the box's of truth and the seeker must destroy all if he is to make tea with the right consistency. If he doesn't then the dragons will all turn blue and as a result everyone will be in eternal pain from their love of black "

Now i have clearly oversimplified things but you get the picture.

I'm finding it very hard summoning up the energy to read the rest of the book and am only this far out of some bizarre OCD i have about finishing a series i have started.
"I think i was a bad person before. Before this time. I do not try to be good now but i am not bad. Perhaps if i try harder i may get a better hand dealt next time? But surely that makes it pointless? Perhaps i am good. Just good at being pointless. But that would make me bad. Bad at having a point. Ah…. I see now. I was nothing before, I am nothing now. I am bad purely because im pointless. "

Your willpower must be over 9000 Flawed.

I got a hundred pages into the 5th book and I gave up. That was just after the Evil Chicken passage and the revealation that this would be yet another book were the greatest wizard in the world would be of absolutly no use... just like the other four books.

Perhaps you are right. I blame my eyebrows and their overpowering skill at blocking most of my vision. So i only ever really read every other word..eg " .......Pain......Ouch.......Pain.....Blood.....Pain......Pain.....More......Pain
...... Sausage "

That chicken passage is the greatest thing I have ever read. Seriously.

"This looked like a chicken, like most of the Mud People's chickens. But this was no chicken. This was evil manifest."

Greatest quote of all time.

I think Flawed has pretty much nailed the reason I dislike his books. The endless prattle about meaningless things makes the stories so frustratingly irritating. Goodkind somehow manages to bleat on for pages and pages and pages about the most menial things, that could have been explained in one sentance, and he appears to do it for no reason. He likes the sound of his own voice, maybe. And also, he mentions the same thing over and over again, but just says it slightly different. So to say 'The cat is black,' he would also say 'and it was a black cat, a feline of dark colour, the opposite of dog in a shade opposite of white, she was a cat, and her fur was like night, this thing with teeth and claws and a tail, was so very coal-like, a thing that goes meow, and is the same colour as Darken Rahl's stubbed toenail, a dark moggy, a scratch post user whos pigment in without colour.'

This is why TG's publishers whould say to him, 'You read it, Terry, and if you aint pulling your own pubic hair out in frustration by the time you end the first chapter, we might print some of it.'

Highly amusing.

Im now about 40 pages from the end. I have a terrible, terrible feeling that this may NOT be the last book.

* cue random hair pulling and geneal wailing *

* cue more random pulling of hair that is without pigmentation, which is the opposite of a bald man who is happy, but with white skin and laughing *

Double post. Yes......... i know...

So i finished the series. ALL the books. Flexing will power never before seen EVER in the entire history of time EVER!

In summarisation,.................. i am glad its over. I did find myself groaning out loud at some of the A typical Goodkind esq statements and long winded explanations about cement and all the usual drivel about pain and living life and such.

Overall i would like to say that the sword of truth series in the beginning was an aid for myself as an introduction into fatasydom. But as time went on and i read other things it became apparent that it is woefully below par compared to for example Malaz.

I read the entire series as a matter of an ocd and a little bit of solidarity towards one of the first books i ever read.

So thank you Goodkind for the start. And thank you for making it the last book please ever!

Handsome.

I love how, in this series, the major conflict in every book is fabricated on the spot, with no reference to the rest of the world. Evil chickens? Right on, never heard of those before. Let's do it. Chimes? Ok, got it. Beat the chimes. It's possible that, despite the series ostensibly having 'ended', he could go back, and write new stories in the middle there, and invent even MORE new deus ex chickens to obstruct Richard.

And then I got to the whole part where he got his nutty philosophy in my sword n sorcery. And then I paid $3 to the library to buy up an unused copy of chainfire, which sits forlornly on my bookshelf, and will never be read. A buddy of mine struggled through to the end of the whole mess, then stacked all of the books on a table in the college library one day and left them there.

That is one of my least favourite things about TG. I hate the way he made his big bad bad guys up for each book as he went along. Its almost as if the man had no foresight whatsoever. He knew it was a ten-book deal, so why didnt he drop a few hints of Nicolaus the fucking Slide, and Six the fucking Witch, and any number of other unimaginative foemen he created. Jagang was the only premeditated bad guy, and for those who have read them all (us hallowed lot, them of colossal determination) i'm sure you'll agree the showdown wasnt all it was cracked up to be.

This is a VAST understatement. I've watched nearly all the episodes just because of my love of the SoT series and I am so disgusted by the Legend of the Seeker series.

It deviates from the story to the point of absurdity, adding in things that never happened. I don't even like the representations of Richard, Kahlan, Zedd, Darken Rahl. Shit, I don't like any of it. Warning to those who are contemplating watching it: don't. It's horrifying the amount of butchery that went into making the T.V. series.

Quote

They raced out from the long shadows of the buildings and poured around the corner. The people off at the end of the street all turned when they spotted Richard's force coming. More people--men and women from the city--surged into the street in front of the compound of buildings the soldiers had taken oup as barracks and a command post. The people looked like a scraggly lot.

"No war! No war! No war!" the people shouted as Richard led the men up the street at a dead run.
"Out of the way!" Richard yelled as he closed the distance. This was no time for subtlety or discussions: the success of their attack depended in large part on speed. "Get out of the way! This is your only warning! Get out of the way or die!"
"Stop the hate! Stop the hate!" the people chanted as they locked arms.
They had no idea how much hate was raging through Richard. He drew the Sword of Truth. The wrath of its magic didn't come out with it, but he had enough of his own. He slowed to a trot.
"Move!" Richard called as he bore down on the people.
A plump, curly-haired woman took a step out from the others. Her round face was red with anger as she screamed. "Stop the hate! No war! Stop the hate! No war!"
"Move or die!" Richard yelled as he picked up speed.
The red-faced woman shook her fleshy fist at Richard and his men, leading an angry chant. "Murderers! Murderers! Murderers!"
On his way past her, gritting his teeth as he screamed with the fury of the attack begun, Richard took a powerful swing, lopping off the woman's head and upraised arm. Strings of blood and gore splashed across the faces behind her even as some still chanted their empty words. The head and loose arm tumbled through the crowd. A man mad the mistake of reaching for Richard's weapon, and took the full weight of a charging thrust.
Men behind Richard hit the line of evil's guardians with unrestrained violence. People armed only with their hatred for moral clarity fell bloodied, terribly injured, and dead. The line of people collapsed before the merciless charge. Some of the people, screaming their contempt, used their fists to attack Richard's men. They were met with swift and deadly steel.
At the realization that their defense of the Imperial Order's brutality would actually result in consequences to themselves, the crowd began scattering in fright, screaming curses back at Richard and his men.

What the hell?

I'm guessing there's a lot of stuff leading up to this part, but having your hero cutting down unarmed civilians protesting against a war?

And Richard just chops them down without any remorse?

I say again what the hell?

well... this Richard guy sounds like a real hero. i mean, when i see unarmed pacifists, all i can think of his how moral it would be to decapitate them

A word of advice to you, new friend: Don't read the threads where we talk about Goodkind. It will be, for the most part, Malaz members ridiculing the series, and if you really liked the books, you might not like the vitriol that is poured on the Sword of Truth.

That being said:

That excerpt sounds more like Soul of the Fire or Blood of the Fold... wherein stupid citizens (a Goodkind hallmark, outside militaristic Dhara the rest of the people are dumb) proclaim the greatness of the Imperial Order and peace before they are slaughtered by either Richard or the Imperial Order.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

I gave up on the series when the bad guy in the first book (Darken Rahl?...what a stupid fucking name) licked his fingers and then straightened out his eyebrows with them, one of the lamest pre-stupid-ass pick up line moves ever!

Everyone that richard loves dies except for Kalah who is repeatedly raped by the dream walker till she starts to like it. Word them implodes in a shower of truthfulness. The end.

Evil chicken?
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.
